Control Panel - Technical Guide2
A low temperature associated with a high level of humidity leads to the attainment of a threshold, called dewpoint, beyond which there is a possibility of of condensation. The presence of condensation inside an electrical switchboard can have a negative impact on the lifetime of its components and their operation. This concerns more particularly the control panels because they contain lot of electronic equipment which control critical functions (road traffic, infrastructures, continuous processes, etc.), and because they are often installed in harsh environments.
Effects:• an accelerated material aging
(oxidation, etc)
• Risk of short-circuits
• malfunction which may cause shut-downs of the installation
Consequences:• Financial: shut-downs of the installation,
maintenance.
• RisK of lossofreliability of the equipments.
There are several solutions to limit the humidity and maintain the temperature at an acceptable level in the enclosure.
Schneider Electric offers a range of products (hygrostats, thermostats and hygrotherms combined with heat resistant) that meet this need. It is Schneider Electric's precision heating solution:

How to protect electrical equipment from condensation
Ultra thin resistance heaters
Ultra thin resistance heaters havebeendesignedtoresolvecondensationproblems in the most complex installations.
Is your enclosure short of space?
Does your mounting plate make it impossible to install a conventional resistor?
Do you not want to take out the equipment?
Discover the benefits of this new offer and its numerous mounting solutions.
An innovative solution to humidity and condensation
The resistance heaters have been laboratory-tested and have been granted the following certifications:

6 advantages
The space saving available for the equipment compared with a conventional resistance heaters can be up to 30%.
1 Small size (thickness = 1.6 mm)
The heat is distributed over the whole surface and does not exceed 70°C. This temperature allows devices next to the heater to be handled safely.
2 No risk of burns
5 innovative fixing systems are available. They use either scratch strips (no tool needed!) or basic accessories (screw + spacer). These fixing systems facilitate the movement of ultra thin heating resistors.
3 Quick and easy fixing
These heaters are so slim and flexible they can be installed in different positions:• Vertically on side panels• On the mounting plate.
4 Numerous positions for installation
Ultra thin resistance heaters are ohmic: they therefore have a low starting current.
5 Energy efficiency
These resistors can be installed near electronic equipment to guarantee optimum heat.
6 No interference emissions

Expert’stip1 • As a general rule, position
the hygrostat in the bottom of the enclosure, under the equipment so that the heat generated can benefit all the equipment.
2 • Calculate the right choice for your thermal management requirements, according to the environment and the devices installed in the enclosure.
ProClima can be downloaded from our website.
3 • The heating speed is chosen according to the control device operating time. For occasional use, choose fast heating. To resolve condensation problems, choose a heater with a slow or average heating speed.
4 • As a general rule, position the hygrostat in the bottom of the enclosure. The thermostat should be positioned at the bottom of the enclosure for a heating function. Always keep the two control devices separate from the resistance heaters.
