Senior researcher, NHK Broadcasting Culture ResearchInstitute. After working for the regional services divisionof the overseas broadcasting department for thirty yearssince joining NHK in 1971, he moved to the Institute in2001 and has been engaged in surveying recent develop-ments in broadcasting in Asian countries.
HARA Yumiko
Senior researcher, NHK Broadcasting Culture ResearchInstitute. Since joining NHK in 1978, she has engaged innumerous research projects, including those on“International Comparative Study of TelevisionBroadcasting,” “Adult Education and Television Use,” and“Audience Behavior and Multimedia.”
KODAIRA Sachiko Imaizumi
Senior researcher, NHK Broadcasting Culture ResearchInstitute. Since joining NHK in 1977, she has beeninvolved in various types of studies on children and themedia and the educational uses of the media. Her recentpublications include a study of children and TV over itsfifty-year history and a study of global trends in education-al broadcasting for children.
KONO Kei
Senior researcher, NHK Broadcasting Culture ResearchInstitute. Joining the Institute in 1973 in the public opinionpoll department, she specializes in surveys on nationalelections trends and social and political attitudes. She wasin charge of the 7th Survey on Japanese Value Orientationsconducted in 2003.

Professor of the Department of Journalism and MediaStudies, School of Communication, Information andLibrary Studies, Rutgers University, State University ofNew Jersey. He is also director of the Journalism ResourcesInstitute at Rutgers. He is a faculty associate at theColumbia Institute for Tele-Information, ColumbiaUniversity. His books include Converging Media:Introduction to Mass Communication in the Digital Age(co-authored with Shawn McIntosh; Allyn & Bacon, 2004).
YAMADA Ken’ichi
Senior researcher, NHK Broadcasting Culture ResearchInstitute. Joining NHK in 1984, he was a reporter special-izing in international (especially Chinese) affairs and eco-nomic issues. He served as foreign correspondent,stationed in Beijing 1993–94. He is currently engaged inmedia research on China and Taiwan.
YOKOE Hiroyuki
Executive researcher, NHK Broadcasting Culture ResearchInstitute. Joining NHK in 1968 as a TV director, he wasengaged chiefly in the direction and production of art andhistory programs. In 2001 he moved to the Institute, wherehe has conducted surveys and research on digital broad-casting content and television audience behavior.
TSUNEMATSU Shin’ichi
Editor of NHK Broadcasting Studies and director of theMedia and Management Research Division, NHKBroadcasting Culture Research Institute. Joining NHK in1975, he reported on social issues and international news,and served as foreign correspondent based in Teheran,Cairo, New Delhi, and Paris.
