The Lebanese American University (LAU) is growing and thriving in large part to our generous family of donors who have indefatigable faith in us as we continue to take on new challenges with the aim of pursuing academic excellence. In fact, our LAU family of supporters’ trust in us led them to make a remarkable 921 donations totaling just over $13 million during the Fiscal Year 2016 that spanned from October 1, 2015 to August 31, 2016.

On behalf of the university, I express my sincere thanks to everyone who has supported LAU, enabling it to flourish at a time when we most need it, and at a time when the nation, region, and beyond need more intellectual and ethical leaders. Fulfilling the PromiseCampaignFulfilling the Promise, LAU’s second fundraising campaign, was launched in October 2011 with the university’s most ambitious goal yet: raising $100 million. Closed at the end of Fiscal Year 2016 on August 31, 2016, the campaign sought to support the institution’s Strategic Plan by securing the resources needed to ensure the university’s journey toward academic excellence. Spectacularly, the comprehensive campaign achieved just that. In fact, the campaign’s target was achieved one year ahead of schedule, raising a total of $103,995,135 — just shy of $104 million. This stunning success was made possible by 6,245 donations from 3,733 LAU supporters, including alumni, friends, and corporations, among many others. Indeed, the university is well on its way to keeping the promise it articulated during the campaign, which is to remain committed to strengthening academics and becoming a world-class institution.

“Dear Supporters,

Having been able to attend LAU because of the financial support I received, I know how crucial funding and financial aid are in changing the lives of the bright young men and women who otherwise would not have good opportunities for their careers and their futures.”

Ziad's final-year project led to the invention of a cardiac monitor that has saved lives worldwide and is being used by thousands of patients in the United States.

He now leads a multimillion-dollar company with global operations including 10 software developers based in Lebanon. He fondly recalls the vibrant campus life during his days at LAU that shaped his character and prepared him for life.

The President's Circle (PC) was formed in 2012 with an aim of promoting LAU in ways outside the formal academic channels. Initiatives carried out by PC members and volunteers include cultural and social events of public interest, as well as fundraising for worthy causes such as helping needy patients at the Lebanese American University Medical Center - Rizk Hospital.

PhonathonSince 2014, the university has conducted a student-led Phonathon that involves calling between 800 to 1,000 alumni worldwide per year to secure pledges. The initiative runs for five weeks in the spring and gives alumni a way to give back and play an important role in the university’s future. “Dear Supporters,

The knowledge I gained is the best thing I received from LAU. But it wouldn’t have been possible without the scholarship I earned. Through financial support, I had a chance to achieve my goals by studying at a university that strives for academic excellence but also to educate the whole person to become a future leader.”

Before even graduating from LAU, Jennifer already had a job offer from one of the most reputable auditing firms in the world. Today, she is an associate who audits the financial statements of her firm’s clients from various industries — a role she dreamed of while attending university.

Jennifer has bigger dreams though. In the coming years, she hopes to take the CPA, earn an MBA, and to achieve the highest levels and positions in her job. She says LAU played a big role in her success and that without the financial support she received she would not be able to study at LAU and carry out her goals.

Beirut Annual Fundraising Gala Dinner 2015

Since 2012, LAU began holding its annual Fundraising Gala Dinner in Beirut, Lebanon. Each year the event draws together the university’s most important supporters, friends, and alumni from around the region to celebrate LAU’s accomplishments, made possible by its generous donors. The inaugural gala raised an impressive $7.5 million, and the successive events have had excellent fundraising results, all in support of the Gala Dinner Endowed Scholarship Fund to educate needy and deserving students.

The 2015 gala celebrated Adnan Kassar’s generosity towards establishing the Adnan Kassar School of Business on LAU’s Beirut campus. The following contributors made generous donations towards that gala dinner celebration with proceeds going towards the Gala Dinner Endowed Scholarship Fund.

In order to honor LAU’s supporters in North America, including alumni based there, LAU began hosting an annual New York Gala Dinner in 2010. The 2015 gala brought together hundreds of supporters to celebrate their devotion to the institution and also recognize LAU’s latest achievements. LAU’s contributors make all the difference in today’s world. It is their support and generosity that demonstrate that someone without wealth can be given the resources to get somewhere. And with those resources they can put in the hard work necessary and reach their dreams. I am an example.”

Equipped with two degrees from LAU, Chris was hired by Dar Al-Handasah, one of the world’s leading international consultancies. Whether on-site at a project location or at the office, he gets to apply the knowledge and skills he acquired at LAU every day.

As a geotechnical engineer within his firm’s tunneling team, Chris is involved in all phases of the geotechnical and foundation design and supervision for major projects undertaken by Dar Al-Handasah, including tunnels, railways, healthcare and educational complexes, large urban developments, and mixed-use facilities, among others.

LAU carries out special impact initiatives to benefit areas of the university in need. During Fiscal Year 2016, the School of Engineering launched a “mini campaign” to raise $250,000 towards helping currently enrolled students in critical financial need. The Engineering Students' Emergency Relief Fund initiative was backed by LAU champion, Abdallah Yabroudi, CEO of Dubai Contracting Company, and was astoundingly well received by the community locally and abroad. In fact, nearly all of the campaign’s goal was raised within a matter of months. More importantly, several scholarships were established to help dozens of currently enrolled engineering students at LAU. This was made possible by the following supporters’ contributions.
