Absen will be promoting ABS Safety’s unique 6mm cable system in its product range as many UK systems still incorporate 8mm cable. Thebenefits include not only significant cost, but weight saving as well which increases installer productivity when transporting the system components to the rooftop.

Absen will also be able to offer retrospective fit systems including non-penetrating systems for those rooftops which are unable to have fixings drilled through them.

Details of all safety systems components can be found on our web site.

If you have any enquiries regarding the installation of any of the products seen on our website in the UK, please do not hesitate to contact us on the details below.

WANT TOELIMINATE NETTING?

BIRD DETERRANT

Telephone: 01233 623245 Email: [email protected] Website: www.absen.co.uk

Bird Free keeps all birds off all structures without harming them. It does so by altering their behaviour, not by acting as a physical barrier. Birds will completely desert a habitat, even one they have been using for years, once Bird Free has been applied.

Bird Free gel is applied in low-profile application dishes, only 8mm high. One of its distinct advantages is that it deters birds from landing even when these dishes are placed behind the leading edge of a parapet or ledge. This makes the dishes of Bird Free invisible from ground level, thus preserving the aesthetic appearance of the building, while at the same time keeping it clean.

Netting had been damaged and nesting pigeons were causing a mess on the church facade and the street below. Absen dispatched a team to remove the pigeons from inside the netting, clean and remove any mess and re-instate the netting to prevent re-entry of the birds.

All work was carried out with minimal disruption to third parties below and the church staff. Absen adhere to all current legislation and as an IRATA member company follow the strict code of practice issued by the International rope access governing body. Teams consist ofexperienced level 3 supervisors and level 1 or 2 operatives to make up the rest of the team.

SCAFFOLD COMPARISONAbsen were tasked with removing existing old flu vents to be upgraded with new boiler flu’s. This included the complete removal of the existing flu, fixing of the new flu and making good with sand cement. Access was difficult due to the basement flats and due to the short duration of work tradi-tional access methods were not considered. The total cost of the job for half a day would have been the equivalent price of the initial offloading of a scaffold lorry by a team of 2-3 scaffolder’s prior to the scaffold being erected.

GLAZINGAbsen were asked to carry out water testing of the external facade of a glass stairenclosure to identify leaks and water penetration. Upon completion our team carried out mastic removal and repairs to seal all areas confirmed as leaking.

Due to the nature of the structure and its complex shape traditional access methods had been dismissed by the client. In all, 4 days were spent water testing and re-sealing. Access was provided by means of water filled weight anchors at roof level which did not penetrate the Sarnafil roofcovering.

All work was completed on time and on budget with no disruption to day to day goings on!

Absen were required to carry out the removal of all vegetation and clearing of rainwater pipes to the rear elevation of a listed town house in Margate, Kent. A team assisted astructural engineer to carry out a visual survey to determine if the outer skin of tthe wall requireddemolition and re-building. Due to the nature of the basement flats and the restricted access to the rear of the building traditional access methods were not feasible due to time constraints and permits required for road closures to offload and erect scaffolding.

Absen were requested to carry out the removal of a shrub high on a church tower inMaidstone, Kent. Due to time constraints and restricted access the team mobilised in a short period to carry out the works. This included making good with lime mortar to point up the jointopening left after removal. All work was carried out with minimaldisruption to local pedestrians and workmen also carrying out renovation work on the church.

DUCT CLEANINGAbsen carry out cleaning and surveys of vertical extraction shafts from busy commercialkitchens. Due to the nature of the business work would be carried out at night or duringweekends. Fully trained rope access professionals would be assigned to carry out the work using specialists rescue and retrieval equipment. In some instances due to the nature of the roof top structures we may enlist the help of a local scaffold company to supply and erect a scaffold platform from which to work. This demonstrates that traditional and modern access methods can complement one another.

Absen assisted a satellite installation company in removing existing satellite dishes on a 70m tower block in East London as a communial system had been installed. This involved the rigging of ropes and supervision by one of its experienced supervisors. The rest of the team was made up of IRATA qualified level 1 technicians who descended into position to remove the dishes via a hauling rope. All were removed without confrontation and limited disruption to local residents.

SATELLITE DISH INSTALLATION & REMOVAL

Absen operatives carrying out the installation of a 4” pipe to house satellite cables on listedbuildings in London’s Knightsbridge District. Ducting was used to disguise a series of cables in place of rainwater pipes. Due to the nature and location of the town houses, access was limited at both the front and rear elevations and due to time constraints, scaffolding and other access methods were not an option; saving considerable time and money for the client.

IRATA Rope Access TrainingRope access is a method of work positioning developed fromclimbing and caving techniques. It provides a safe and effective means of access for operatives to carry out a wide variety of tasks in difficult and hard to reach locations.

The International Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) was formed to ensure that all rope access work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner. To achieve this it has developed a formal training and certification scheme under which operatives must qualify.

P.P.E Equipment ExaminationsAbsen Rope Access Specialists Ltd offer bespoke Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inspection/examination services for companies and individuals involved in Work at height and outdoor pursuits industries. Our services range from: inspection and report on current systems in place, through to complete inspection, assessment, marking and logging of all specialist Work at Height / Confined Space / Outdoor Pursuits equipment and introduction of best practice systems.

You may ask “Why do you need a fully qualified and experiencedcompetent person to inspect work equipment”? It's the law!

'Thorough examinations' by a 'competent person' of any lifting equipment used for lifting persons (such as Rope Access Personal Protective Equipment) are required by law to be conducted at least every 6 months (or less if recommended by the equipment manufacturer) as detailed in the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations1998. (LOLER98).

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 states that 'Work equipment exposed to conditions causing deterioration which is liable to result in dangerous situations must be inspected at suitable intervals' and that any lifting equipment should also be 'thoroughly examined' after it has been subjected to 'any exceptional circumstances which are liable to jeopardise the safety of the work equipment' (such as shock-loading / dropping from height, working in arduous conditions).

Intermittent inspections in between thorough examinations (in addition to standard pre-use checks) should be carried out in accordance with your risk assessment as required under the Management of Health and Safety at Work (MHSW) Regulations 1999.

Logging of the 'thorough examinations' and intermittent 'inspections'

Under LOLER regulations 1998-, a 'thorough examination' report must be made by a competent person carrying out the examination and any defects reported forthwith to the employer and any person from whom the lifting equipment has been hired or leased. A report of any defects which involve 'an existing or imminent risk of serious personal injury' must be sent to the relevant enforcing authority.

'Certificates of conformity' should be kept for so long as the lifting equipment remains in use, whilst the 'thorough examination' reports must be kept for at least 3 years (under IRATA ICOP). Both should bereadily available to the end user and to inspectors from any relevant enforcing authority in the case of a 'thorough examination'.

The intermittent 'inspection' reports should be kept until the next 'inspection or' 'thorough examination'.
