Pontiac police officials have developed an alternative plan to contracting with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.TRANSCRIPT
PONTIAC POLICE BUDGET PROPOSAL SAVINGS of $2,402,977
** Comes from elimination of $1,078,028 from Administrative Allocation** $442,619 comes from 10% one year wage cut from all police department personnel ** $800,000 from contracting out Dispatch
Total General Fund Officers will be 72 COPPS Grant will add an additional 4 officers School District will add 1 officer MPRI Grant will add 1 officer “This will give the police department a total of 78 of
sworn officers, which is an additional 4 officers compared to Oakland County Sheriff’s Proposal”
1.5 Millage increase for possible February 2011 Election (Millage increase ceiling will drop off in the years 2011 and 2012)
In addition to this Proposal, the Pontiac Police Officer Association (PPOA) has an addition $1,000,000 in savings
Early-Outs with the possible savings of $300,000
QUESTIONS THAT NEED TO BE ASKED
Who will pay the $400,000 for the Pontiac Police Department maintenance (Not included in Oakland County Sheriff’s Proposal)
How is there a savings the first year when the City of Pontiac will have to pay out $1,300,000 in payouts (Ex: Sick time, Vacation, Comp Time, etc)
The City of Pontiac will have to pay two months of health care the first year of the Proposal, which is approximately $400,000
The City of Pontiac still owes $800,000 in Police Car Loans
Who will pay for the elimination of School Crossing Guards
Budget questions need to be thoroughly reviewed (Ex: Administrative Allocation Cost administered to Police, Fire and DPW)
Who will pay for the elimination of Pontiac Animal Control (All of these services come at a cost and will reduce the number of Deputies assigned to the City of Pontiac)
The Pontiac Police Department emergency response time is 6 minutes or less. The Budget Proposal will continue to quicken response time on Primary and Secondary calls for service. The number of road patrol officers will be increased due to restructuring the police department to 12 hour shifts.
