AC0730 – EVIDENCE FOR PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT
This module aims to enhance students' abilities to be critical consumers of evidence informing
contemporary practice. It acknowledges that such skills constitute a 'craft', and as such practice is
needed to develop them. Moreover through using pertinent anonymised examples from their practice,
it enables students to critically examine the nature of underpinning evidence, including the rationale
and contextual issues. A range of evidence from diverse sources will be evaluated. Students will
participate in seminars in order to share their professional perspectives and maximise exposure to
varying sources/types of evidence. Learning and teaching strategies will reflect the academic level of
the module therefore student led seminars will feature predominantly. This year long module is one of
the core options for the Post Graduate Certificate in Practice Development and underpins two
practice/clinical modules. One of its key strengths is that it directly applies knowledge gained to the
students own specialist area via designated 'touch points'.
There are two parts to the assessment. The first paper consists of a seminar presentation to peers.
Whilst this is a formative assessment it is NOT optional as it provides the basis for the summative
assessment and as such will be formatively peer assessed. For the summative assessment, the
student will be required to critically analyse a piece of evidence relevant to their area of practice, and
by reflecting on this process, evaluate learning and achievement of the module learning outcomes
from a personal and professional perspective. The combined assessment strategies will demonstrate
the achievement of all the module learning outcomes.

AC0731 – DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR SERVICE IMPROVEMENT PLANNING
The module offers students the opportunity to explore and focus on the delivery of evidence based
quality improvements in practice and facilitate the students skills for a robust monitoring of performance
within the NHS. Students can critically evaluate service improvements that make a significant practical
difference to services along the chosen patient pathway and plan a service improvement that is practice
led and patient focused to achieve the best outcomes. Students will participate in seminars in order to
share their service improvement plans. Learning and teaching strategies will reflect the academic level
of the module therefore student led seminars will feature predominantly. This year long module is one
of the core options for the Post Graduate Certificate in Practice Development and underpins two
practice/clinical modules. One of its key strengths is that it integrates knowledge and skills gained in
understanding service improvement to the students own specialist area. Summative assessment will be
a presentation of a Service Improvement plan which will be submitted electronically with a written
reflective critique of the learning gained during this process.
This will demonstrate the achievement of all the learning outcomes.

AC0729 – ACADEMIC RECOGNITION FOR PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT
This module is designed to acknowledge and promote Continuing Professional Development. The
module enables recognition of CPD through description, contextualisation and rationalisation of
learning achievements. The student will be an independent learner and will identify their individual
learning objectives with guidance through tutorial from the module leader and develop and
demonstrate a critical awareness of how recent and present study can be applied to practice contexts,
and facilitate personal, professional and/or practice development. The CPD learning can be formal
learning e.g. Master class activity, practice based study days, project work etc. or informal learning
e.g. reflection on role development or practice critical incidents. The learning can also be a collection
of formal and informal themed learning, or the acquisition of clinical skills competencies relevant to
the individuals practice.
The module is summatively assessed via a 2,500 word reflective portfolio which allows the student to
identify, critically explore, and synthesise developing knowledge for practice and how this is applied to
the professional role and practice setting.
SCHEDULE OF DELIVERY: This module is delivered twice commencing 23rd April 2015 and 6th November 2015. Each requires one day’s attendance. Module Code

AC0724 – DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP CAPACITY AND MANGING CHANGE
Developing leadership capacity and managing change are an integral part of the Government’s
transformation agenda and as such places health professionals at the frontline of supporting and
developing patient centred care through effective leadership and service development. This module
aims to integrate theory, research and practice to enable the practitioner to develop leadership capacity
and capability in order to develop the team, lead change and instigate effective service delivery at a
variety of levels within the organisation. This will be achieved by utilising a variety of approaches to
teaching and learning that support the students’ individual development. This will include the use of
lectures, action learning sets, the use of self assessment/diagnostic tools and the e-learning portal.
Formative and summative assessments will involve students critiquing culture, leadership and change
within organisations to improve service delivery. The summative assessment will culminate learning
within a 4000 word essay.
SCHEDULE OF DELIVERY: This module is delivered twice per year commencing 12th October 2015 and 18th January 2016, consisting of directed and Self-Directed Study days.

AC0732 – CLINICAL SKILLS FOR DEVELOPING PRACTICE
The aim of this module is to equip experienced health professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to develop clinical practice within their own working environment.
This module provides the flexibility for students to select their own clinical learning outcomes from a
‘toolkit’ of options in conjunction with their Clinical Supervisor and the Module Leader. The rationale
for this strategy is to ensure that the module outcomes are fit for purpose and meet both the students
learning needs and service requirements. Role development and skill acquisition will occur within the
context of local need and national policies and guidance relating to patient safety and professional
practice. This module is to be undertaken in the workplace. Assessment is by a summative written
assignment demonstrating the process of achieving the designated clinical outcomes. The
achievement of clinical learning outcomes will be graded as ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. Both parts of the
assessment must be successfully achieved. Formative feedback on progress will be via a designated
mentor and module leader. Summative feedback will be by written comments.
