The Grove, Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham, WR11 4QH

On Wednesday 28th September Prince Henrys’ usual staff meeting will become a TeachMeet.

A TeachMeet is an organised but informal meeting for teachers to share best practice, teaching innovations and personal experiences of teaching.

We hope that you will volunteer to discuss a strategy you have implemented over the past year. It is the perfect opportunity to share, network and learn with your peers in an informal setting.

This time our themes will include:

» Growth Mindset Strategies » Homework ideas » SEND » Literacy across the curriculum » Using IT / Media / Technology in your

__lessons

During the TeachMeet you will have the opportunity to drop into 2 or 3 sessions to share your ideas and hear about techniques that work well in other peoples’ classrooms.

We would welcome colleagues from our alliance schools to join us.

Wed 28th Sept 2016

APPRAISAL TRAINING

FOR TEACHERS

Mrs Helen Wood (Deputy Head) Monday 19th September 2016

Please come along if you would like to learn more about the appraisal process at Prince Henry’s High School. This session will look at how to identify and agree suitable targets; how the process works throughout the year; the role of lesson observations in appraisal; and how to review progress.

This training is ideal for new colleagues who have joined the school in 2016/17, those new to appraisal, as well as those with more experience but would like an update.

PACEMAKER PROGRAMME2016-2017

The Pacemakers lie at the heart of developing and sharing outstanding T&L at Prince Henry’s. Those that attend are required to both contribute to the sessions and share ideas within their departments every half term. It is both a big responsibility and privilege to represent your department on the Pacemakers. This year we will be encouraging all our pacemakers to participate in some joint planning, observing, and delivering of lessons. Any interested colleagues should, in the first instance, make contact with their Head of Department to discuss their suitability.

Roles and responsibilities of a ‘Pacemaker’

» To implement and evaluate the strategies discussed at our meetings. » To share the strategies picked up from Pacemakers meetings at Department meetings (HODS will be reminded

---that this is a compulsory agenda item at their meetings). » To lead sessions to other pacemakers (and other staff as appropriate).

You may also:

» Be asked if colleagues can observe your lessons (arranged in advance). » Request cover to engage in practitioner research before or after leading a session. » Arrange to go into other schools to observe or share good practice. » Be asked to work in triads with other pacemakers: planning, delivering and observing lessons together

EMBEDDING A ‘GROWTH MINDSET’

Mr David Findlay (Head of English)

Growth Mindset is a simple idea championed by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck through decades of research on achievement and success—a simple idea that makes all the difference.

In a Fixed Mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. They’re wrong.

In a Growth Mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.

Fostering a growth mindset in our students can greatly enhance their motivation and productivity.

Session One: Wednesday 21th September 2016

The Growth Mindset theory – the research and the evidence

How the Growth Mindset approach translates into the classroom

How to apply a Growth Mindset approach to your teaching

Session Two: Monday 6th February 2017

Using Growth Mindset methods - building on Barry Hymer’s training in November 2016 and Pacemakers in January 2017
