We’re committed to doing our part to build stronger communities and celebrate our diverse culture. We can only hope you’ll join us.

Warm regards,

Larry A. Mizel Chairman and CEO, M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. and Chairman and CEO, MDC/Richmond American Homes Foundation

VISION. IMPACT. SUSTAINABILITY.“WITH A LONG HISTORY OF GIVING, THE MDC/RICHMOND

AMERICAN HOMES FOUNDATION, ALONG WITH LARRY MIZEL

AND DAVID MANDARICH, HAVE SHOWN TRUE COMMITMENT

TO ENRICHING THE LIVES OF COLORADANS.”~ JOHN HICKENLOOPER, GOVERNOR OF COLORADO

Courtesy of Blacktie® – Colorado

From the beginning, the mission of M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. was to help people from across the nation achieve the American Dream. Forty years and more than 190,000 homes later, we haven’t lost sight of that vision. We are always looking for ways to put homeownership within reach for a wider range of buyers.

By creating the MDC/Richmond American Homes Foundation in 1999, we expanded our mission to building stronger communities as well. Over the years, the Foundation’s impact has steadily grown as we’ve funded worthy causes both in our own backyard and across the globe.

Whether it’s sending aid to a women’s shelter, supporting educational opportunities for at-risk youth or contributing funds to preserve and enhance local parks, every cause we support is focused on one thing: laying a sustainable foundation for a brighter tomorrow—for everyone.

After all, America has a rich and diverse heritage. And the American Dream is more than owning a home. It’s quality education regardless of background. It’s equal opportunities for women. It’s a healthy environment in which to live and grow.

VISION. IMPACT. SUSTAINABILITY.

CULTIVATING A CULTURE OF GIVING THROUGHOUT THE ORGANIZATION.M.D.C. Holdings’ Chairman and CEO, Larry A. Mizel, has always looked for ways to give back to the community, even as the owner of a growing business in the ’70s. From helping Colorado’s young farmers and ranchers attend college through the Denver Rustlers, to partnering with employees and subcontractors to raise $1 million for victims of 9/11, giving has been a huge part of the company culture.

As the company grew, building stronger communities became just as important to us as building homes. In 1999, donations were taken to the next level with the formation of the MDC/Richmond American Homes Foundation, which quickly became the main vehicle for making a difference.

With the Foundation in place, we started asking ourselves how we could make the greatest impact. What could we do to champion healthcare? How could we support education? How could we enrich our community through art and culture? The answer: sending aid to local and global nonprofits desperately in need of funding.

GIVING HAS BEEN A HUGE PART OF THE

COMPANY CULTURE.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR CHANGEHELPING ORGANIZATIONS DEDICATED TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE.Once the MDC/Richmond American Homes Foundation was established in 1999, the focus on giving gained momentum. In the first year alone, the Foundation gave a total of $250,000, with funds going to The Denver Campus of Jewish Education, the Tennyson Center for Children and the Gold Crown Foundation.

Directing funding where it was needed most became a streamlined process and the Foundation was able to act quickly in times of crisis. In 2010, following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Colorado governor Bill Ritter organized a mission to bring 32 orphans in the final stages of adoption safely home to new parents. The Foundation

was quick to lend financial support and helped make the governor’s mission possible.

The following pages detail similar success stories. Over the years, millions of dollars have been aimed at creating positive change by helping organizations that share our passion for making a difference.

Always searching for new and innovative ways to deepen its impact and broaden its reach, the Foundation restructured in 2016 to align with Lion Global Foundation. Together, they have expanded their opportunities to engage in effective philanthropy.

EMPOWERING WOMEN.

SETTING WOMEN UP FOR SUCCESS

IS A TOP PRIORITY.

GIVING WOMEN A SECOND CHANCEWe believe everyone has the right to feel safe. For victims of domestic violence, safety is not a given. Many victims stay in abusive situations because they fear financial repercussions or physical retaliation. SafeHouse Denver provides the shelter, non-residential counseling and advocacy services needed for adults, children and youth to reclaim their right to a life free of violence. Given this vital mission, lending a hand is an easy choice for us.

SUPPORTING WOMEN IN ACADEMICS“Helping women earn scholarships based on their athletic prowess is something we’re proud to get behind. Through the Colorado Flyers Track Team, athletes have been given academic opportunities that will benefit them long after their track and field careers are over.”

AND ACADEMIC GOALS.

FROM THE TRACK TO THE CLASSROOMCollege shouldn’t be out of reach, especially for those with the ambition and drive to make their dreams come true. The Colorado Flyers Track Team started with the simple quest of helping young people attain athletic milestones in track and field. In 1976, the Colorado Flyers expanded its mission to provide opportunities for women to attend college through athletic scholarships. We’re honored to help make that happen.

EMBRACING DIVERSITY.

COMBATING BULLYING AND HATEThe issue of bullying has gotten a lot of attention in the media in recent years and it confirms our decision to help fund The Anti-Defamation League, or ADL. Their No Place for Hate® initiative combats bias, bullying and hatred by empowering schools to create a positive culture that embraces our differences. On a broader level, ADL fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry in the US and abroad through information, education, legislation and advocacy.

To get involved, visit adl.org

We believe the best way to fight bigotry and hate is by creating an inclusive culture and empowering people to take a stand.

WITH DOWN SYNDROME.

AIDING AN OVERLOOKED COMMUNITYAs personal accounts and studies show, many families that have a child with Down syndrome are stable, successful and happy. What many people don’t know is that Down syndrome is the least-funded genetic condition in the United States. A STORY TO REMEMBER

LEADING THE FIGHT AGAINST

RESPIRATORY ILLNESS.

EXCELLENCE IN MEDICAL RESEARCHIn Colorado, we are lucky enough to have a consistently top-ranked facility for treating pulmonary disease right in our own backyard. Through our funding, we’re helping to develop clinical programs, conduct research and educate healthcare professionals and the public on prevention and treatment. National Jewish Health has been a leader in medical research for nearly 120 years and we’re pleased to support that legacy.

National Jewish Health has the largest pulmonary division in the nation.

Christian’s parents first brought their young son to National Jewish Health because he had suffered from a cough since birth. Because his family has a history of asthma, he is at increased risk for the disease. The Pediatrics team diagnosed him with gastroesophageal reflux, also known as acid reflux. With proper treatment, Christian’s cough is improving and he’s a happy 20-month-old boy.

ENHANCING HEALTHCARE.Top-ranked facilities stay on the forefront of research and quality of care through funding and support.

CULTURAL LANDMARKS.

CIVIC CENTER CONSERVANCYRESTORING THE HEART OF A CITYImagine what Denver founders must have envisioned for our city a century ago. One thing we know is that city planners originally intended for the Civic Center to become the cultural heart of Denver. In 2004, a group of private citizens set out to make that vision a reality by transforming the 12-acre urban oasis into a premier public gathering place. We believe in preserving our city’s heritage, so we proudly fund this organization as it works with the City and County of Denver on revitalization.

BUILDING SAFER COMMUNITIES“We’re grateful for the support we receive from MDC/Richmond American Homes Foundation. It is critical that citizens, businesses and local governments work together to help to prevent, prepare for and respond to acts of terrorism. The CELL’s awareness program provides the basic tools needed to recognize and help prevent criminal activity.”

~ Courtney Mizel, Founding Director, The Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab

ENHANCING PUBLIC SAFETY

THROUGH EDUCATION.

SAFETY STARTS WITH INDIVIDUALSTerrorism is real, it’s evolving and it exists in every country of the world as a tactic to create fear and chaos. The Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (The CELL), a Lion Global Foundation program, is a one-of-a-kind exhibit that offers a comprehensive look at the threat of terrorism. The CELL also offers the Community Awareness Program (CAP), which trains citizens to recognize red flag behaviors and situations and contribute to the prevention of terrorism and criminal activity.
