Qi GongInstructor: Edward KanQi Gong is a centuries-old mind and body practice. It in-volves a number of easy, slow and gentle movements with breathing, and relaxation. The movements can be practiced while walking, standing, or even sitting. Research findings suggest that practicing Qi Gong regularly may improve bal-ance and stability in older people and those with Parkin-son’s, reduce pain from knee osteoarthritis, help people cope with fibromyalgia and back pain, and promote quality of life and mood in people with heart failure and cancer. Qi Gong may help to improve general quality of life, and offer psychological benefits, such as reducing depression and anxiety. The class will focus on improving balancing, in addition to all the above health benefits. If you are already healthy, this class will help you maintain your health and fitness. The gentle movements of Qi Gong practiced cor-rectly should not have any negative side effects, and is safe for all people with normal mobility. For more detail about the above and other potential health benefits of Qi Gong, please read the research reports at the NIH web site: www. nccih.nih.gov/health/taichi. Ed Kan has been teaching Tai Chi and Qi Gong in this area since 2006.
