It is listed as contributing to theDallas Downtown Historic District. The building is being rehabilitated for mixed-useresidential and retail. As a FederalHistoric Tax Incentives Project it is subject ocompliance with the Secretary of the Interiors Standardsor the Treatment of HistoricBuildings . The Part-Z application for the project has been approvedby the National ParkServiceand Texas Historical Commission.The Continental Building was originally completed n 1951 as a threestory building withthe city's first undergroundparking garage.It Was emodeled n 1958.The secondandthird floors were re-clad in travertine,and an additional eight stories added.The fourthfloor feafuresa recessed alcony with gold mosaic columnsand aluminum and glassstorefronts.Floors five throughten are clad in brick and exposedaggregate.Thepenthouse eafures aluminum andglassstorefronts.

ProposedWorkStorefrontsRefer to sheets 2.05,43.01-43.04The northeast corner of the first floor features an original 1951 storefrontwhich will berestored,aswill the original valet storefront on the southwest.Existing materialswill becarefully cleanedand repaired,and broken glazngreplaced as necessary o match theoriginal.Original entry doors, canopy, and Continental Building sign facing Commerce are to berestored.The remaining storefrontswill receive compatiblenew windows and existing stone s tobe cleanedand repaired. Stone emoved to accommodatenew windows willbe salvagedand used to repair broken panels n other locations.Two new egressdoors will be provided on St. Paul.
