1. INTRODUCTION

Introduction

TheZM1isdesignedtobecoupledwithanystandardelectricfenceenergizer(see2.1Limitationsbelow)topowerandmonitoranelectricfence.AsitcancontrolverylargeenergizersitisanticipatedthattheZM1willfindapplicationonlargefencesforgamereservesandbordersecurity.TheZM1usesPatentPending,DFD™ technology to determineifthereisafaultonverylongfences.

ThecombinationoftheZM1andtheenergizeroperateinthesamewayasasingleJVAZseriesenergizer,withtheexceptionthatthepulsepowerleveloftheenergizercannotbemodified.

TheZM1monitorsthelivefeedlinefromtheenergizertothefenceanddeterminesifthefenceisworkingproperlybymeasuringthevoltageandcurrent(thereforepower)flowing to the fence. As such it does not require a return line from the end of the fence.Thiscanrepresentalargesavingoninstallationcostsonnewfencesormakemonitoringanexistingfencepossibleifnoreturnlinewasoriginallywired.TheZM1can,however,alsomonitorthereturnifthatisdesired.

TheZM1hasmanyprogrammableoptionswhichcanbeadjustedusingaJVAZserieskeypad.Bycorrectlysettingthealarmthresholdlevelsitispossibletodetermineifafencehasbeencutorshortedatanypoint.

TheZM1isdesignedtomeetorexceedtherelevantpartsof IEC60335.2.76.TheZM1ispartoftheJVAZseriesofsecurityenergizers,designedandmanufacturedby Pakton Technologies.

TherearehighvoltagesinsidetheZM1andJVAenergizers.

The high voltage inside the energizer may take a longtimetodischarge.Waitatleast10minutesafterturningoffbeforeopeningthecase.

Beforeworkingon thehigh voltagewiringof anelectricfence, it is recommended that theenergizer isdisarmedandashortcircuit isplaced fromthe fence livewires toearth.This is a sensible precaution against the energizer being armedwhileworkingonthefence.

Note: The energizer manual must also be provided to the customer as itincludesmandatorysafetyinformation.

2.1 Limitations• An energizer used with the ZM1must comply with IEC60335.2.76 (or similar)safetystandard.

• TheZM1supportsconventionalwiringonly(notBi-Polar),although2unitscouldbeusedtomonitoraBi-Polarfence.

• Themaximumenergizerpoweris36Joules(StafixM36orsimilar).• Atthisstage(CodeVersion1.4andearlier)aZM1cannotbeusedinagroupeitherwithotherZM1unitsorwithZseriesenergizers.

3. OPERATION

3.1 Control OptionsTheZM1maybearmedanddisarmed(controlled)usinga:

NOTE: More than 1 method may be used in the one installation.

3.2 Control ArbitrationIfaninstallationcontainstwowaystocontroltheZM1/Energizer,thenthemostrecentcontrolsignalwilldeterminetheArmed/Disarmedstate.Forexample,iftheZM1isarmedviathekeypad,andthendisarmedatthecontrolinput(IN1),itwilldisarm.

Thehigher levelcontrolmethodssuchas theGSMandPCcontrol softwaremayoverridetheControlinputandKeypadsmethods,dependingontheoptionsused.Ifyouneedtomakesurethatthefenceisdisarmed(formaintenance)thenusingtheKeyswitchorkeypadalonemaynotguaranteethatthefencewillremaindisarmed.

3.3 Control Inputs The ZM1 may have a single Key switch mounted on the right hand side of thecabinetwhichmaybeusedtoarmanddisarmthesecurityelectricfencetowhichitisconnected.ThisswitchisusefulforthesimplestimplementationswherenokeypadorPCcontrolprogramisused.Itmaybedisabledbytheinstaller,byremovingtheleadfromsocketSW2.

Whenswitchedonvia theKeyswitch(oraswitchconnected to IN1) theZM1willpoweruptheenergizeritiscoupledtoandbeginmonitoringthefence.

TheLCDdisplaywillchangetodisplaytheFeedandGroundvoltages.IfthereisafencefaulttheZM1willgointoalarm,theinternalbeeperwillsound(ifithasnotbeeninhibited)andanysirenandstrobeconnectedtotheZM1willbeturnedon.

SwitchingtheKeyswitchoffwilldisarmtheZM1,thoughitwillcontinuetodisplaythe alarm.

3.4 Keypad ControlThe ZM1 uses the same keypads as the Zseriesenergizersand is controlledusingthe same keypad codes outlined below.The keypad will also display the feed andreturn voltages of the fence, but not theground voltage or fence current at this time.The standard alarms and alerts to problems (Trouble)willalsobedisplayed.

3.4.1 Using the Alpha Plus LCD KeypadTheLCDkeypadhastwoLED’s,Power and Arm,whichactasfollows:

Power – Onwithmainspower,flashesonlowbatteryArm – OnwhentheZM1isarmed.

Allotherindicationisgivenviamessagesonthescreen.

Wheneverthekeypaddisplays:

• ALARMZONE• FAULTEDZONEor• SYSTEMTROUBLE

pressingthe[#]keywillrevealmoreinformation,suchasthenameofthezoneortheactualsystemtrouble,forinstanceACFail.

3.4.3 Changing the Keypad Messages and Address Youcanchangethemessagesandeachofthe8zonelabels.

6.1 ProgrammingBasicsSomeoftheprogrammingoptionsontheZM1aredifferenttothoseontheZseriesofsecurityenergizers,butthebasicfunctionsremainthesame.

DFD™enables theZM1todetecta faultat theendof very long fences. 6.3.15 Anti-Bridging threshold (17x#)Anti-Bridging has been designed to detect a section of fence being bypassed, and removed,byanintruderbridgingtheadjacentfencesectionstogether. This also detects when the feed isconnectedtothereturnwithashortcable,andthentheentirefenceiscut.

Settingthisoptiontoavaluegreaterthan0(defaultis0=off)willenableAnti-Bridging.

WhileArmed,aFenceAlarmwilltriggeriftheFenceCurrentrisesORfallsquicklybymorethanthethreshold.AslowchangetotheCurrentwillnottriggeraFenceAlarmuntiltheCurrentismorethantheCurrentAlarmLevel(02x#)

TheAnti-BridgingThresholdisapercentagevalueoftheFenceCurrent.Forexample,settingoption17to50(1750#)willseta50%Anti-BridgingThreshold.AtthislevelaFenceCurrentnormallyreading10AmpswilltriggeraFenceAlarmiftheCurrentquicklyrisestoover15Aorfallstolessthan5A.

Measuringfencecurrenttodetermineifafenceisbridgedwillworkirrespectiveoftheenergizertypepoweringthefence.

Thisoptionsets the timewhichmustelapsebeforeanother alarm will sound after the first alarm hastimedout(gonecompletelythroughitscycles).

Ifaneventoccurs(suchasalowfencevoltage)whichtriggers the siren, any other events which wouldotherwisetriggerthesiren(suchasagatealarm)willbeignoredwhilethesirenissoundinganduntilafterthe Auto Re-Arm time has passed.

Since the ZM1 cannot control the pulse timing ofan attached energizer it cannot be grouped for thepurposesofsynchronising.NorcanitbeincludedinagroupwithotherZseriesenergizers.

It may be necessary to change 26 to 1 to enable PC controloftheZM1.
