Project Title

Section 1: Rationale (approx. 150 words)

This section provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise your progress and achievements through the first 12 units of the qualification. You should outline the knowledge, skills and understanding you have acquired. What you know now, and what it means to you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how this has influenced your choice of discipline or disciplines and your project proposal. It also provides an opportunity for you to explain your reasons for choosing a particular discipline or disciplines and to outline both your immediate and longer-term aspirations. (Smith, 2017)

What is your overall area of concern, interest, and information essential for comprehension of your intended project? (avoid tedious length and technical details)

The easiest way to start is to identify and define the central problem of your idea (observable attribute of the phenomenon), answer question: What is your project about? (underlining theme)

What is important about your project and how will it capture the interest of the audience? (the reader of your proposal must understand the topic of your project and has a general sense of purpose of the project)

Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, production or performance and the research and ideas that will support its development. What you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final realisation within the allocated timescale. This might include an indication of when and how you will use studios, equipment and other resources, how you will make use of tutorial and peer feedback and where you will incorporate independent study.

This section provides an opportunity for you to clearly explain the concept and aims of your project, the research and ideas that will support its development, what you anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that you will need and an indication of the form in which you will complete and present your final realization within the allocated timescale.

Clearly formulate: What is the concept (media format/design) and aim of your project? Identify major elements of your project: What (who) are your influences? What will you research? Who is your target audience? Explain your role in the project. Explain technical requirements of your project.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 150 words)

This section provides an opportunity for you to explain how you will reflect on and evaluate your work, as both an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of your project. You should describe how you intend to record your decision making and how you will document changes to your ideas as your work progresses.

The evaluation should be a reference to your stated aims and be reflective and analytical rather than a description of actions completed.

When working in collaboration with others, you should comment on how this may impact either positively or adversely and steps you can take to minimise disruption in your progress.

Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)

This section provides an opportunity to record the initial research sources, both primary and secondary, that you intend to use.Your sources of research should be as wide as possible and could include libraries, galleries, books, theatre, cinema visits, films, videos, magazines, films, TV and Radio programmes, computer games, websites, blogs, social media, radio programmes, archive material, and other media and multi-media sources etc. Make sure you use Harvard referencing.

Project Action Plan and Timetable

This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation over a period of weeks and the activities you will need to carry out to complete your project in the agreed time frame. The more time and thought you give to planning your project the more successful it is likely to be. It is important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in the realisation of the project. You should also include what you are going to do, how you will do it and by when. Remember to include: time spent sourcing materials and other resources to conduct research, seek feedback from tutors and peers, and identify when you will carry out independent study.

At the back of the Learner’s Progress Tracker Book, is an academic calendar. Please refer for dates. There is also an Academic Calendar available on the VLE.Project Action Plan and Timetable

CHAPTER 1

Introduction

Introduction to the Chapter - This opening section’s main function is simply to get the reader into the chapter somewhat gradually rather than jumping directly into the first substantive division. It can be as brief as one paragraph; it can be as long as three or more pages. If you prefer a briefer introduction, then begin with a paragraph something like this:

This project portfolio is a report of my Extended Project (EXTENDED PROJECT) for my second-year

UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Media Games Development.

My project is going to be about narration, I want to tell a story aimed at preschool children. It is

going to be a very short story based on research into what interests a specific age group. I am going

to start by explaining my reasons behind my choice for my extended project. I will go in more depth

about the vision for my project and what it means to me and why I feel that is important.

The Background of my Project

This section is intended to provide a context for your project. It answers this question: “What special factors were at work that might have influenced the conceptualisation and execution of your project?”

Here you can take some of your previous writings and blog posts to address some of following questions. You can use any medium (Videos, photos, audio, sketches, etc.)

What is it that makes me do my project? My personal experiences that influence my choices (idea for the project, my role in the

project, how it relates to my future career) What is the basic premise of my project? What do I seek to achieve and how it relates to my target audience?

Who am I?

After completing this test my results came up as INFP. I feel that this does represent my personality most of the time. I try to sort issues out with talking and trying to resolve issues that way.

Often I do find myself getting lost in a daydream when I am thinking about something creative, whether it be a solution to a problem or I am making something.

It says Open – minded and Flexible which sometimes is not true because I can be stubborn at times. I do like peace and quiet and I hate it with a passion when my children argue (even though this could be most parents).

When it comes to making something I like to think that I am creative as for Roald Dahl Day I made my son a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang costume from a box, fabric some string and some paint. He won a book for an original costume.

I can be really passionate and energetic when it comes to something I believe strongly about and that I am really interested in, I get lost in my imagination and when it comes to creating something I can get lost in time with it too. Sometimes I have to keep reminding myself that I don’t have all the time in the world to complete a task.

11

Page 12: CONTENTS  · Web viewInfinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as

Department of Media and Communication

Sometimes I can be dedicated and hardworking but that can require a lot of effort, especially when it’s something that I am not that interested in doing so I have to just get on with it. I would always pick doing something fun and maybe challenging to do, especially if it involves my family over something mundane.

Altruism: I do put the kids and my partner before myself, I will always give the last of what I have got to anyone who needs it. I have often given lunch to the homeless and quite often my breakfast and lunch and even dinner to my daughter because mine is quite clearly better than hers (even though they are the same – Not according to a toddler).

I will make sure my family have got everything they need and want even when it means I go without.

Yes I am impractical. I do occasionally neglect some day to day matters (not the important ones) but I would rather watch a movie with my kids than wash up because that can always be done later but making memories I feel is more important.

I definitely agree with the fact that I dislike dealing with data, I see the grand design of things and forget about the little things, I get an idea of how things should be and most times it doesn’t help as I realised yesterday with an issue at home.

Taking things personally is definitely a big thing, maybe it’s down to anxiety issues but when things happen or don’t happen I tend to worry that I have done something or not done something.

Getting to know me can be a hard task, I am quite reserved until I feel confident enough in a social surrounding e.g. / college, work or at a party, I don’t feel comfortable going to parties where there is going to be a crowd, especially when the number of people there that I don’t know is quite high. I

12

Page 13: CONTENTS  · Web viewInfinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as

GO TO CONTENTS

Department of Media and Communication

didn’t attend my friend’s birthday party for this reason, whether this is anxiety or personality type, I just can’t bring myself to do it. I am quite happy sitting on my tod watching a movie at home with my boyfriend than go out with a big crowd. I did make an exception at Christmas and I went to a Christmas meal with work, it was about twenty people and was tired afterwards, I am glad I did it, I drew the line at going to the clubs with them though.

The data suggested that I am quiet and reserved and my friends are few and far between because I prefer to have a few good friends instead of loads of friends that are not good and this is fine with me, I have a couple of friends, I don’t see them a whole lot but they are still there.

Yes I did learn something about myself, the fact that I sometimes don’t see the little details in the bigger picture which has caused upset in my household a couple of times.

I agree with most of it, some bits I don’t agree with, like the mediator relationship, I can be selfish at times (sometimes it can be too easy) and that causes arguments.

What did I learn on my course?

This was my work from the Extended Project from year one. I have achieved a lot from this course from researching and planning a project to completing it. I have learnt how to plan and work to

13

Page 14: CONTENTS  · Web viewInfinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as

deadlines, to research effectively, to telling stories, sometimes without the need for words as hopefully demonstrated in the AON project.

This along with the audio of scraping along walls, footsteps and growls at random intervals and volume gave the impression that they were doing experiments, something happened and that there was a monster roaming the halls from the clues that were in the room.

I feel like I have achieved a lot from this course and from what I have noticed that most projects I have completed have been about stories. The Age of Napoleon task was just that, conveying a story through environments. My last FMP was exactly that, the origin story of the islands of Japan. I enjoyed learning 3D work which allowed me to experiment with narration through environment. My influences for animation stemmed from the experiment weak and the research I did into animation and the different varieties there were. I looked at Dan Hashimoto, who created his own videos with his son and adding special effects in After Effects. I really enjoyed this. I then made my own animation in After Effects which I enjoyed too. I started to look into animation and looked at how stop motion has evolved. It has a mix of classic techniques and modern technology to create short animation sequences. Audio has also had a major part to play in my choices and influences because audio has a major part to play in conveying feelings, Audio and visual don’t work by themselves and I have learnt that use these mediums to the best of my ability and I can convey a story with feeling.

What is my project about?

When defining your interest and or topic and or theme, define it regarding some observable event. For example:

Today more and more children are getting there entertainment from other avenues

such as YouTube which content is not so much regulated. I have had to stop my kids

from watching seemingly innocent clips such as PewdiePie playing games to find

expletives half way through and ban it. And my daughter is following suit with

watching Elsa from Frozen, which is all well and good until you find this because of

the tags they come with. Not appropriate.

15

Page 16: CONTENTS  · Web viewInfinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as

Department of Media and Communication

My daughter loves ducks, and loves to sit on the benches along the river

watching the ducks and it reminded me of things like Brambly Hedge which is

stop motion animation.

I was walking along the river a couple of weeks ago with my son and

daughter and there were some ducks, and A Mallard Drake went up to a hen

and all of a sudden another drake ran down the bank to the hen and chased

the offending drake away and came back to the hen and proceeded to act like

he was asking her if she was ok which was fairly sweet.

Without words there was a story about the lives of two ducks spending their

time together relaxing on the River Stour told in less than a minute.

If you look, you can see the lives of more than just the people around and the

characteristics of the animals around you.

Why my project is important?

Narration is important because it is how we communicate and convey ideas in so many ways which reaches all demographics. Narrative can be used with paintings as they can tell stories about events. Poems, one of my favourites is by WH Auden, he told the story of the love he had for his partner within a poem. It was very powerful. You could truly tell how much he was hurting through the poem. He had the words to convey deep emotion very effectively. “He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest, my noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.”

My Research Plan

Table 3- My Research Plan

EXTENDED PROJECT - RESEARCH PLAN No of Words

Interest/Topic/Theme 150

My interest is Narration, particularly stop motion animation aimed towards children. I am interested in clay motion and digital art.I have sourced some children’s books from my son’s school about stories similar to Brambly Hedge and have some more of the modern Disney Pixar stories aimed at children of the similar age to get an opinion on how story telling has change over the years.I have also sourced some videos made by Ardman Studios(Wallace and Gromit) and those of Tony Hart and Morph and how he was created.I am waiting for a specific magazine to come out on sale in WHSmiths which is called Animation Artist which gives lots of insight into animation, especially seeing as Kubo and The Two Strings was made using stop motion animation.

Due to personal issues I have had to change my idea for my Extended project. It will still be about Narration but no longet stop motion. This is because a change of circumstances that means I no longer have as much time as I previously had.

Why is it important? - Importance 100It is important because we learn a lot from stories. It helps us learn about the world around us. Especially for children. It is how ideas are conveyed. A story can be conveyed in so many ways, from a poem, to a painting, a radio show, a cartoon or a movie, even theatre. And one thing each of those does is convey a sense of being, emotion, some teaching us without even realising. It helps us pass on information through generations. My favourite one at the moment is the Tigger Movie. Tigger receives a letter from his family, or what he thinks is his family. Tigger goes off on this adventure to find his family and becomes disheartened when he doesn’t find them at the “Family Tree”. His friends come looking for him and after them getting to trouble and Roo saving them, they all read a line from the letter and Tigger realises that they are his family. Important messages in plain sight where there are always people nearby who care for you.

My research question(s) 100

What am I trying to find out? What interests the target audience? Is the subject appropriate? Is it appealing to them? What do I need to consider when writing narration for this target audience:

1. Writing style2. Language3. Lay out4. Colour5. Imagery

19

Page 20: CONTENTS  · Web viewInfinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as

Department of Media and Communication

Research Design 100For this extended Project I am going to research what interests young children in the way of stories. The target audience would be preschool children up to the age of five.Skills used would be primary and secondary research into colour, language (alliteration and rhyming, simple), illustration and typeface.I will research into how children’s books are written and children’s books themselves. I will find a variety in my house and read them to my daughter and find which one’s appeal to her more and I will write down what drew her attention I would compare this information with the feedback I would get from reading other books with my daughter.I feel that in regard to production research there could be a slot in the market for the book I want to create, more research needs to be done in regards to book vs toy and the idea of personalisation.

with clues like how long does the book keep her attention, does she interact with it? Does she like or comment on the imagery that illustrates the book? Does the subject interest her?

I could ask my son who I slightly older what interest books that are age appropriate for him to see if there is common attributes that children’s books have, do they have the same ideas on the basic make up of a story which is a narrative structure or because of the age it is slightly more simple to that of a book that is for an older age range as they would use a story arc as books tend to start becoming available in series instead of short stories due to the attention span of younger readers/listeners.

Literature/Resources Review

Introduction I will use a huge pool of books and audio tapes that I have at home and that I can find on the internet as the basis for my project. I will use these to gauge the level of interest that my son and daughter have in various books and will ask my son because he is older about what he likes or dislikes about various books.

This next section will include a range of different sources that I have used to create the basis of my extended project, even though my idea has changed due to time constraints and personal circumstances I feel that the Practitioners Report is still relevant because both artists have influenced the way I think about narration and animation which is just another way of telling a story, the art styles used for different age groups and the way stories have been told to be appropriate for the relative age group.

little while ago I found a clip of what he has been working on on Facebook, one of those recommendations from the lovely people at Facebook - thank-you.

He turns his son's everyday adventures into a masterpiece.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWTB23Q0I1g]

In 2005 he left The university of Southern California and finished his internship at Paramout Pictures. He has worked at Walt Disney Animation Studios as an artist and In 2005 he went to work with Dreamworks Animation where he worked as an After Effects Artist  on various things like Me an My Shadow and Kungfu Panda 2. He left Dreamworks Animation in April 2015 and is currently making his own videos under the name Action Movie Dad

where he creates some amazing clips and tutorials.

I have recently being trying to re create some of his work in After Effects by watching his tutorials on RedGiant.com.

The one with the Dr Strange portal effect.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKYZdSa2Qk8]

I have managed to recreate the portal effect for this and could probably do it without watching the tutorial now minus the part with the actor.

Danial Hashimoto uses After Effects in all his works but has the plugin Trapcode by Red Giant.

In particular he uses Particular, that was no way intended but couldn't think of another way to put it and was a little amusing so I am leaving it there.

24

Page 25: CONTENTS  · Web viewInfinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as

Particular gives a little more control over the particles themselves,  I have learnt how to make particles emit from lights, use null layers, tracking etc.

Maybe this is a bit more difficult to deconstruct in the way of Formal Elements because he is recreating the way something is rather than creating something completely new. I can say that the color yellow is used in Dr Strange after he meets the Ancient one (Tilda Swinton). I feel that as it is placed in Tibet, and the color of the robes that Tilda wears is close to Saffron Yellow which comes from the colors prisoners used to wear which means Humility, free form materialistic things.

the Circle of Enlightenment, the Infinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as Mutual Circle or Circle of Togetherness."Only when Dr strange truly learnt to let go of the baggage he carried and let go of any physical barriers was he truly able to open the portal to get back from the cold where The ancient One left him. Which would be classed as enlightenment by Buddhists. So maybe that is why the portal is round and yellow because of the Journey that Stephen Vincent Strange had to go through to get to a point in his life that he was truly happy - enlightenment only truly

allowed him to become the great sorcerer he is.He even gave up his own future to keep Dommoru stuck in an endless loop to keep the rest of the world safe.

For the Dr Strange clip Daniel took two films, one of his son leaving school and one arriving home. They were not lined up so he spent two hours doing some really complicated techniques (which worked really well) to line them up. He used a mask to manipulated the position of his son so it looked like it lined up and then made a guide circle and turned down the opacity and created two null objects and a light. He had to rename the light to Emitter that allowed him to use it as an Emitter otherwise After

Effects would not recognize it. He made the Null object a parent to the Emitter and the Emitter parent to the Guide Circle. He did this so that he can rotate the Null Object and have the Emitter follow the path of the guide circle my copying the position of the Guide Circle and applying it to the position of the Emitter which gives the effect of a Catherine Wheel.

After this Daniel adds the Particular to the solid and changes the

settings so it starts to look like the Dr Strange Portal. After he has it like he wants it he blends the 2nd scene so when the boy opens the portal and it comes towards him it is a seamless transition to his home scene. To add to the effect he adds sparks that comes off his son's shoes which is done by motion tracking.

Daniel Hashimoto has influenced me creatively because of what he has created from a simple recording of his son in the park on a toy boat to being in a sea storm, from playing in a toy shop to destroying it with a lightsabre, sofa jumping to watching out for lava. The polar express coming down his street, Jumping in a puddle and disappearing. These videos have created fun and enjoyment and plus they look pretty cool, I want to learn how he did it and try

these films and TV series in various ways.

The Use of 3D modelling is quite apparent in some of the show reels along with Green and Blue screens. Blue screens are used when a lot of foliage is needed to be included. So 3D modelling, texturing and animation are used within the films with a lot of VFX using various methods. The studio would of done a lot of research before filming, followed by concept art and box modelling, to 3D modelling, texturing and filming and photography with Particle Effects and tracking for the way people move among other things.

Evaluation:

This was a very interesting task for me, i have been really interested in animation from when I started researching it and with all the different techniques that can be learnt. It definitely has made me rethink what i want to do for my FMP. It was a lot easier to find information on Daniel as it was Sam because Daniel is self employed and anything he creates is solely done by him, but when it comes to Sam, he is part of a company where hundred's of people could work on one project such as Heroes so it's hard to find information about what he has created himself.

CONCLUSION - Who/what was my inspiration? /Contextualisation of my study

What are similar media products and how is my work related to them? (position yourself in relation to similar media products) Children’s books such Peppa Pig and Spot the dog are similar to what I am trying to create as it has interactive elements to engage the children. It has the line, colour, and shapes that appeal to the age range just like Dan Hashimoto tried to create. Like myself I am trying to create something that I feel my daughter would enjoy just like Daniel did in creating home made movies something special for his son to enjoy.

How have similar media products influenced my project? How have they shaped my project? (Thought and action)? When reading books with my daughter I realised she wasn’t interested in Bedtime Stories for Girls, even though they were bright and colourful my daughter didn’t seem interested in the slightest, but when I bought out the Peppa Pig book and showed her what was inside the book she wanted to come and sit with me and look at it to explore what was hidden inside it.

What did I learn from similar media products? (compare similar media products, how it influenced my perspective and ideas for the project – talk about both script and techniques) I learnt that a child sometimes doesn’t want to be a spectator to a story, they want to be a part of it. This has influenced it in many ways, to get the child to partake in the story and maybe even be a part of that story as well all know as children it was cool to find your name on a product like pens or drinks bottles as recently demonstrated by Coca Cola and for the unfortunate ones who have lovely unique names don’t get to partake.

Obviously not mine but I have one with my name written backwards in the back of the book. The scripts used in the books I have looked at have simple language within them to make it easier for the child to understand. Some use child style drawings for relate purposes and childlike writing, others use alliteration and rhyme to try and add a bit of fun for the children.

CHAPTER 3

Research Design

Introduction For this extended Project I am going to research what interests young children in the way of stories.

The target audience would be preschool children up to the age of five.

Skills used would be primary and secondary research into colour, language (alliteration and rhyming, simple), illustration and typeface.

I will research into how children’s books are written and children’s books themselves.

I will find a variety in my house and read them to my daughter and find which one’s appeal to her more and I will write down what drew her attention

I would compare this information with the feedback I would get from reading other books with my daughter.

I feel that in regard to production research there could be a slot in the market for the book I want to create, more research needs to be done in regards to book vs toy and the idea of personalisation.

Research QuestionsStart with stating the intent of your EXTENDED PROJECT. What are the key aims and objectives of your project? Outline the key characteristics of your project. Write about your questions? You have to base your research design on questions and interests. Ask yourself: “What do I want to find out?” Write to the reader clear research questions, what you wanted to find out?

The main aims and objectives of my project is to create a product that would entertain a child with a level of fun, interactivity and learning. To make something that can be enjoyed my many.

What makes a good children’s book?

Is it Colour and imagery? Is it alliteration or rhyme? Is it interactivity?Personalisation?

How long can a child concentrate for?

Does it depend on how the story is read? The subject of the book?

What is the best level of language for a children’s book?

What is the best layout to make it interesting?

How to start writing a story for a child?

Story narrative or story arc?

Research Design Evolution

In this chapter, you will expand on what you wrote in your project proposal. Write about what you researched and how you collected your data (research activities). Remember, in this chapter, you will only write what you have researched and what research activities you used. In the next

chapter, you will write about your findings, analysis and conclusions. You can write following chapters about findings and analysis using same themes (see below) for the sub-titles.

You can use following research themes as separate sub-titles:

• What makes a good Children’s book? (this will be primary research you conducted; the secondary research about subject will be in literature review)

o Reading different types of stories with my daughter.o Understanding different types of components contained within a story.o Reading several children’s books to see the similarities and differences.o The difference between books aimed at boys, girls and both,o How books evolved from Rosie’s Walk, Spot the Dog, Adventures of Mr Ben to Alien’s

love underpants etc. How have the colour schemes evolved and how were books entertaining without such bold colour schemes? Mainly in regard to Rosie’s Walk as it is mainly shades of yellow.

• Target audience

Ask yourself questions: Who? What? Where?

o My target audience is preschool children, typically ages 3 – 5 and predominantly female while hopefully extending that to boys.

o My audience sits with two demographics, a young one and their parents. The younger audience like to watch things like Paw Patrol, Teletubbies, short YouTube videos and Pokémon (my daughter likes Pokémon because her brothers do so this could also affect what the target demographic enjoys). The other demographic would like something that is suitable and enjoyable to read with the child.

o I Can find this out by reading books with my sons and daughter and asking my friends with children to fill in a questionnaire about what books they like to read with their children which would give me a clearer idea about how tastes change, if they do change, on the content of the book between the genders or at that age it doesn’t matter.

• Skills and techniques

o I would need to learn how to use language effectively for the target audience.o Alliteration, appropriate art work o Reading a book about how to write a book for children on audible and where to start.o Experimenting with the different approaches to writing a story and what would fit.

E.g./ silly, sweet, rhyme or alliteration.

• Production research

o A book Binder and professional printero Author, illustrator, researcher. o Research, plot, characters, art style, language style, writing, illustrating, printing,

binding. o How much is printing and binding going to cost. Image bank? Creative Cloud. o Where to set story.

43

Page 44: CONTENTS  · Web viewInfinity Circle and even the Lost Symbol of Reiki. If you actually took the meanings of the two Kanji symbols that make up the word, ensō would translate as

o Audience for reading. Copies for nurseries or schools/ parents to read and receive feedback

o Visual ideas: Story board/ Character creationo Production (illustration, pc/laptop, schedule, time for printing and binding) o Research: questionnaire

List all research activities; what activities you conducted to answer your questions and collect the data? Write about the data you collected; your choice of data presentation and how you structured your data analysis.

The research activities should be identified e.g:-

Observations:- drawings, Interviews: local authors Surveys (Questionnaires to parents) Experiments: different styles of writing books for children and illustration

CHAPTER 4

Research Findings

In this chapter, you will summarise the collected data and the statistical treatment, and/or mechanics, of analysis. You should start this paragraph by briefly restating the topic/theme of your project (take it from Chapter 1).

Explain the object of each question, research activity, point out results, and present those results in a chosen form of summarised data. Select method of presenting data carefully.

In a quantitative study, the results usually begin with a description of the sample (e.g., sample size, description of participants who were excluded and why, handling of missing data). Next, descriptive statistics (e.g., frequencies/percentages for categorical variables, means, standard deviations, and ranges for continuously measured variables) are presented.

In a qualitative study, the results often include many quotes from participants who were interviewed. Here you should also present your non-textual elements such as photos, videos, audio files, maps, tables, charts, mind maps, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis, etc.

Project Evaluation

Critically evaluating your final media project against the agreed requirements and parameters. Answer following questions:

Introduce the project in your words List five strengths and five weaknesses in your final design Was there a theme for the design ideas? Can you describe it? Can you reference any

influences here? - art movements, designers, media companies/campaigns, etc. What experiments and exploration did you do (what happens if). How did it affect your

development? Find a similar type of design publication - place it next to your own - what

comparisons/difference can you identify? What were the key areas of development in this project? - use your daily reflections to

help you with this Review your proposal - what changed, what developments did you make, did you manage

to complete everything you set out to achieve? What did the client think of your concept? How did that make you feel? What could you do to adapt the work produced to improve and develop it? Is the final work appropriate for the needs of the project? Does it sufficiently answer your

brief? Reflect on your pitch to the board; how did you feel about it before? Did it go better or

worse than you expected? What was the feedback from the client/lecturer? What do you think you could improve next time?
