Main Image: The most attractive thing at the first glance is the main image of Usher

standing boldly, with one hand in his pocket and the other hand holding a bag

and also a very appealing jacket. The power and control of famous artists could

be found as a very attractive thing for most of their target audiences like Usher’s

fans. A full scale photo acts as the main image in this content page. Background:

The background itself is black whilst the font colour is white. This makes the target

audiences read the information in the content page clearly. The background has a fade effect where behind the main the

main image of Usher it is bright grey. But, it gets black at the top where there is less need of attention and as Usher comes on

the right, the background turns grey, which indicates importance and also attractiveness. The fade effect in the

background is called gradient, this allows the editor to choose two or more colours

to put it as a background.Content Page:Even though “contents” is not stated in

this magazine, the heading states “features” and there are clear features of the music magazine. The content page

look simple, clear and easy to understand with a understandable font.

Picture Credit: At the bottom left-hand side, there is a

picture credit which tells the audience who is the person who captured the photo, under what production it is done in and

where the production is from which in this case it is in Los Angeles. The font for the picture credit in standard, it is in white so

that it suits the content page itself and it is in capital texts. Colour Scheme

In this magazine, there are not much colours like any other content pages. This magazine only focuses on three colours

which are black, grey and white. Normally in every content pages, there should be white an black as they are the popular colours in a music magazine but in this

music content page, there is a grey colour in the background. This colour has been used so that the target audiences don’t get bored of the same colours in every

content page. Connotation: In this contents page, we can see that with

Usher’s posture, it’s trying to send a message to the audiences that if they buy the jacket he is wearing, they would look

like Usher. This shot is too attractive to the female audiences as they would obviously think that he is attractive and would like to read the magazine just because he is in it with a fancy jacket and holding a bag with

his hand.

Main Image: The camera shot is a long shot. This shot

has been used to show the female’s entire body. This is a good way to capture a shot

because this will aim to the male audiences who will obviously be attracted

to the female’s body.

Conventions: In this magazine, there is a convention

which has been used to emphasises that the female is taking up most of the page

of the contents by showing off most of her body. This technique is still been used in

the magazines as this is one way of attracting the opposite gender to read the

magazine.

Typeface: The typeface in this magazine does not aim at a specific target audience. The letters are rounded

which would usually am at a female audience. However, some of the letters are also blocked which could mean that this magazine is aimed at the males too. This shows that the company of the magazine is

trying to get a wider target audience.

Denotation: The denotation is this magazine contents page shows a female making a V shape with her legs. This could mean that the letter V could relate to the company’s

name. She is also looking at the audience with a seductive look which symbolizes

that the audiences are involved nor communicating with her. Her arms look as if they are tied to the floor which gives a nature feeling that he is relaxed on the

floor.

Connotation: In this magazine, we can see that with the

female’s legs in the air and her looking directly aims at the readers by making the page look very ‘sexy’. This is too attractive

to the male audiences as they would obviously think that she is attractive and

would like to read the magazine just because she is in it.Representation of model:

The model of the female in the magazine has her legs in the air which shows that

she dos not mind showing off her body to the world. She seems proud of what she is doing as she looks confident and wants to obviously use it to get readers to read the magazine. She also has made the letter V with her legs which connotes ‘Vibe’ which is the magazine’s name. The letter she is showing with her legs does relate to the

magazine. The heels she is wearing shows that she is sharp with how she wants to

appeals her looks to the audiences. Furthermore, the female’s face looks

innocent with her eyes looking directly to the camera and opened her mouth so that

she looks attractive to both genders.

Colour Scheme:The colours used for this magazine are

mainly straight forward as they are grey and black. They give that pleasant and

comfortable feeling which is good because the males will feel comfortable with the lady and the background colours as it

looks simple and easy to understand when they see for the first time. The

background has a gradient with two colours to give the magazine an unique

feeling to the target audiences. Normally a contents page would have the colour red

or the colour yellow somewhere in the magazine but this ‘Vibe’ magazine has used a complete different technique to

attract the audiences which is impressive. By using different technique can entertain

and attract new audiences to read their magazines.

Main Image: In this music contents page, there is a

medium close shot on Plies (artists). This shot has been used to show Plies’ body

and all of the head. This is a good way of showing his tattoo’s, jewelleries, hat and his facial expressions to the audiences. The way he is ‘posing’ to the camera

shows his confident and knows what he is doing. To show he is a millionaire and

famous, he holds all his chains and shows his chest where there are tattoos. Colour Scheme: The colours in this contents page is

unique. The background is dark red which connotes death, love and blood.

Sometimes when red is used, it can be used to symbolize love and happiness.

However, this red is darker and also it links to the image as it connotes that Plies is

dangerous. The other colour used is white which is used for the heading and also for the texts in the first third. The reason the

colour white has been used well is because it has a dark background and the white text seems more vibrant and easier

to catch the audiences’ eyes.Connotation: With Plies wearing and raising his chains, he is trying to show this is where music

got him, now, he has fancy jewelleries and lots of money. Also, as he looks very

intimidating to the readers., this shows his physique and part of his personality, being

born and raised in a rough area.

Dennotation:In this image, we can see Plies who is a

famous American and Hip-Hop artist wearing many chains around his neck. He is also wearing a hat and is standing in an intimidating posture. This posture shows

that Plies is more important than the information around him. We can tell he is

important by looking at the heading as it is behind the artist.

Typeface/font:In this contents page, there is only one

thing that is very visible to the audience and it is ‘Contents’. The bold white

lettering has made the heading clearly to read and catch the audiences’ eyes on the first sight. The sizes of the text in the first third are not very easy to read as it is a small font but the company may have

decided to put the fonts smaller to show that the information that is there are not really important. Even though, the font is small, it still looks simple and professional

by laying out the texts away from each other so it does not create a mess.Representation of model:

The image in this contents page is of a rapper called Plies. He is trying to send a message to the audiences that he is from the ‘hood’ and this is the way they live, for example with money and jewelleries. Most

of the rappers are raised in rough areas and they are proud of this, so they like to show the world how they lived in the past till now. Being topless also shows the body

and strength of the man.
