Contents Page Analysis

Contents Page Analysis Issues from KERRANG!, NME and Q KERRANG!

The top of this page is titled CONTENTS to ensure the reader can see what the focus of the page is. The issue number and cover date are in a smaller font below to ensure to validity and reassurance in the piece. Here we have seen that KERRANG uses a typical colour scheme of black, white, red and yellow. The black may connote the genre of heavy metal and hard rock. Where as the yellow ensures the harsh scene can be balanced out with brighter more radiating artists. The main image on the right hand side is the focus of the contents page. The way he is dressed again represents the lexical field of hard rock and metal. Therefore again symbolising the genre of the music magazine. The smaller images used on the contents page are a contrast to the larger photo used. This can also be a contrast to the main image when relating to the articles featured in the magazine. The image of the editor and the small note underneath the image makes the contents page more personal. The columns used to segregate certain articles or featured pages looks more reduced but organised. The advertisement on the contents page at the bottom right hand corner encourages subscriptions which is another convention of a music magazine. NME

The title of the magazine is on the top of the contents page to ensure brand identity and to reference what page it is. The date of when it is realised is also on there to show validity in the magazine issue. The magazine has also made a band index to which links to the music genre of the magazine. The listing of this shows the many bands featured within the issue and since they are coloured in red, it makes a genre reference to the NME company. The main image in the centre of the contents page looks like a live event of the band playing at a concert. This suggests that further on in the issue there will be more photos like this which may be interest to the reader. Main cover lines are used to highlight certain subcategories that will be featured within the magazine, this makes it easier for the reader to see what they want to read. Advertising Is used to grasp the readers attention to subscribe to their magazine. The colours used are slightly different to those of the normal brand identity of NME. Therefore this makes the image and text stand out more to the viewers eye. The graphic puffs are used to accentuate important pieces of text that the editor wants the reader to see. Style Model Contents Page

The photos in the right hand corner of the contents page will be similar to the layout of my contents page. I believe there should be images featured on the contents page to ensure the reader can relate to the bands or artists being featured in the magazine. My contents page will also include a simplistic scroll at the top of the page like the one emphasised here. The brand identity of my magazine will also be shown like the contents page of Q magazine. The page number and what will be contained will be to a similar layout as the contents page here. It will be simplistic and clear with a similar colour scheme to my front cover. This is to ensure the identity is kept the same and isn't confusing for my audience. Overall my whole contents page will be similar to a replica of my style model here. As I believe it suits my front covers simplistic layout and feel. It may look slightly different due top copyright issues, however I will try and stick to the same idea as the one here.
