To study in Korea for more than 90 days, you need to apply for a D-2 student visa. A student visa can be obtained

at a Korean consulate, usually overnight. It can also be extended here in Seoul without having to leave Korea.

8

Note:

1. If you have a C-3 Visa or a type of short-term visa instead of a D-2 Visa, you must change

your visa status within 30 days after arriving in Korea.

2. There are two types of visas: a single entry and a multiple entry visa. If you want to travel

abroad during your stay in Korea, we suggest you get a multiple entry type. The embassy or

a consulate will issue you a single entry visa if you do not specifically request otherwise.

3. If you want to take Korean language classes, you can apply for a D-4 Visa. More information

is available at: http://ltc.inha.ac.kr/.

Change of Stay Right

What is a Visa?

If you just come to Korea as a tourist, you have to change your visa type to the proper visa before

the school begins. And you must visit the local Immigration office to report your information every

time if you work or move to a new place. In this sense, we strongly advise you consult with

International Office or Immigration Counseling Center (Just call 1345)

Leave of Absence

All international students who have taken leave of absence from school must leave the country

within 15 days from the day of the application. So as to be aware of the problems that may arise

9

regarding the leave, foreign students are advised to receive counseling from the Office of

International Affairs prior to the application.

1. You must surrender your alien registration card to the Immigration officer when leaving the

country.

2. Those who wish to return to school must register at the school homepage at a specified

period of time designated for returning to school. After which, you can possibly obtain a new

Overseas Student Visa (D-2). Furthermore, in order to receive an admission letter, you must

send your address, contact number, and a copy of passport to the Office of International

Affairs (OIA) for undergraduate students

3. Once the admission letter is received, you can go to the Korean Embassy/Consulate nearest

you to apply for the Overseas Student Visa (D-2). After obtaining the said visa, you can enter

Korea and apply for a new alien registration card.

Back to School

If you file for a leave of absence from school, then you must leave the country within 30 days from

the first day when your application is approved. However, those who are confined to the hospital are

exempted from this. As for returning back to school, you have to send the important documents

relating to the issuance of your visa listed below to the admissions officer in at least one month

before classes start. Once the university acceptance letter is received from the admissions officer,

you can go to the Korean embassy/consulate nearest you to apply for a visa. However, if you are

from China, you have to send other necessary documents listed below to the admissions officer.

Required Documents

► Copy of passport

Korea.

Re-entry Permits

stay in Korea, need to apply for a re-entry permit. If you are exempt from registration, but intend on
