MUSIC NOTEWe wish a warm Walla Walla welcome to all returning students and their families. What fun it is to have you back and sense the rising energy level on campus! Happy Sabbath, we are glad to have you worship with us. We also welcome three special musicians. Daniel Hincapie, a senior health science major, comes to us from Redlands, California. Chelsea Bond lives here in College Place. She just completed her music degree. We, and a certain engineering student, are very pleased to still have her in the valley. It is always a special Sabbath when Amy Dodds, another music graduate of WWU, shares her music. Amy serves on the music faculty of Whitman College in Walla Walla. Please join me in thanking all of these musicians.
The English lyricist Frederick Weatherly (1848–1929) wrote the words of “The Holy City” in 1892. Today we hear this famous hymn in Spanish. As you prepare your heart to worship I invite you to silently meditate on the words. The final stanza is given here and the complete text is available via the online bulletin:
And once again the scene was changed, New earth there seemed to be. I saw the Holy City beside the tideless sea. The light of God was on its streets, The gates were open wide, And all who would might enter, And no one was denied. No need of moon or stars by night, Or sun to shine by day; It was the new Jerusalem that would not pass away.
Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Lift up your gates and sing, Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna to your King!
-Kraig Scott
And then methought my dream was changed, The streets no longer rang. Hushed were the glad Hosannas The little children sang. The sun grew dark with mystery,
