CONGRATULATIONS to Eleanor Baker 7SSW, who recently won two trophies at Eastbourne Music and Arts festival during the half term for the highest Ballet mark under 12 yrs and Highest Ballet mark of the open Festival. This has qualified her to represent her Dancing school: Zoe Pennington Dance Studios in the All-England regional semi-finals to be held later this year.

A reminder that the 3rd HPV Vaccination for Year 8 girls participating will take place on:

Tuesday 26th March from 10am

Thank you, Student Support.

Parents will be receiving a letter shortly giving details of the introduction of regulation trousers from May half term. In common with other schools in the town, we find too many students are wearing skinny trousers and so we will be bringing in regulation trousers for both boys and girls. These will be available after Easter. We will be retaining the regulation skirt as well. I will send out further details in my letter to parents.

DEAR – Drop Everything And Read,

During period one on Thursday 7th March, the whole of Willingdon Community School DROPPED EVERYTHING AND READ. All students and staff took part in this opportunity to celebrate World Book Day by bringing in their favourite books to read in the morning. Taking time out to read shows the importance of reading, and demonstrates that it can be fun and relaxing too! Well done everyone.

CHARITY BOOK SALEAt break and lunch time on World Book Day, 7SSW held a book sale in the LRC to raise money for the Year 7 charity – Demelza House. Lots of people donated books and there was plenty to choose from. The wide range of books for sale included adventure, comedy, sci-fi and non-fiction, all on sale for 50p each. Altogether, we raised £24.50 for Demelza House. Thank you to everyone who donated or bought books. Happy World Book Day!

On Friday 1st March, ten students from Willingdon Community School, ten students from Willingdon Primary School and ten students from Polegate Primary School spent the day in the Community Suite working on a transition activity linked to World Book Day. We looked at

fairy tales, particularly Little Red Riding Hood, and looked deeper into the story by using inferring and deducing skills to explore the colour red and the wolf’s character. We also looked at the ending and created a poster in groups: two students from each school per

group, covering all three areas. In the afternoon, we re-arranged the groups and re-wrote our own version of a fairy tale. Our new fairy tales were put together into a book and given to each school.

All of the students from the primary schools and WCS thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a very successful event.
