PathTrak Server System Requirements

All functionality of the PathTrak Return Path Monitoring System is contained in the PathTrak Server SoftwareCD. This includes PathTrak server software that is installed on the customer’s server machine. Clientsoftware for installation on work-stations, as well as software that is pushed from the server to all remotePathTrak elements is included on the CD. Electronic versions of all manuals are included. Separate from thephysical package shipped to the customer is a central system license file that represents the purchasedsystem configuration (single server with a quantity of floating clients and single or multiple remote HCUs).The central system license file is attached to the primary MAC address in the PathTrak server machine asrecognized by the local area network (LAN).

PathTrak Server Network Requirements:

IP assignments: Static IP addressMinimum Connectivity: 100BaseT Fast EthernetRecommended Connectivity: 1000BaseT Fast EthernetPort Assignments: Ports 21 and 23 must be open from the server to the HCU (for telnet and ftp).Port 161 is also used in the server if the SNMP agent is running on the server. Port 161 is also usedin the HCU for SNMP interaction (HCU SNMP is an optional feature). Ports 111, 135-139 and 445must be open. There must be a minimum range of ports open from 900 - 8000.

Recommended Processor for PathTrak/WebView Combo Server: Pentium ® Core 2 Duo or Core2 Quad, > 2.5 GHz CPU with 4 to 6 GB RAM

® XP Professional (Service Pack 2 or higher)

– Microsoft Windows 2003 Server (Service Pack 2 or higher)

Screen resolution: 1024x768 or higher

Hard drive speed: For faster performance, JDSU recommends a minimum of 7200 RPM SATA harddrive (3 MB/Sec) or faster

Available hard drive space: minimum of 50 MB, recommended 1 GB (more hard drive spacerequired if WebView server software is installed on same PC)

Hard drive for PathTrak/WebView Combo Server: Raid Array of 2 or more drives, 650 GB total

disk space min (See note 1 below for details)

There is a maximum of 30 concurrent client connections per server (controlled by server license file).

Limit monitored ports per server to 2,000 or less for optimal performance.

PathTrak Client Software

The client provides a user interface to the PathTrak server (Master System Controller). Client software is

typically installed on the server machine as well as remote workstations connected to the network. Since thesoftware is controlled by “floating licenses”, it may be liberally distributed to anyone requiring access to thePathTrak system. The system administrator sets up user accounts to control who has client access to thesystem as well as assigning various user privileges. The central license file installed on the PathTrak servercontrols the quantity of clients actively logged into the system at any one time. Users may view returnspectrums as well as live monitoring views and performance history.

WebView Server Software

The WebView server software can co-exist on the same PC hardware that is running the PathTrak serversoftware, as long as the minimum PC requirements are met. WebView server software can also be installedon a separate PC from the PathTrak Server. WebView server software cannot be installed on the same PCas the Test Productivity Pack/FDM server software, but it can co-exist on the same PC running the PathTrakand TPP Client software.

The PathTrak server must be V2.3 or higher. One PathTrak WebView server is required per PathTrak server.

Available hard drive space: The hard drive size is determined by the amount of data to becollected. Each RPM card requires approximately 5.6 MB of storage space for each day of 15-minuteintervals. Multiplying 5.6 MB by the number of days that the data will be kept on hand (purge interval)gives an approximate hard drive size requirement. The default storage options require 174 MB perRPM card.

For example:A 31-day purge interval (default setting) with 1 fully loaded HCU1500 (15 cards) requires 2.6 GB ofhard drive space. 15 cards x 5.6 MB x 31 days = 2,604,000,000 or 2.6 GB

WebView Network Port Requirements

The default communication port between the PathTrak WebView server and the Web client is port 8080

(Web HTTP port). The communication port is user editable to another port, if needed (for example, anotherWeb application running on the same PC).
