Where the pressure or temperature is reduced, the vessel will be able to handle larger heating system volumes.

Glycol anti-freeze mixtures reduce the capacity of the expansion vessel. Contact LK for advice.

Safety valveThe safety valve opens at 2.5 bar. A drainpipe should be fitted and connected to a waste outlet.

Circulation pumpDelivery setting: Constant pressure curve 1. If parts of the heating system do not get hot, this can be changed to Constant pressure curve 2. Selecting a higher curve increases energy con-sumption and operating costs.

Pipe installationThe electric boiler is mounted indoors, with the pipe connections at the bottom.

Current building standards and plumbing regu-lations must be followed during installation.

The space between the floor and the boiler base must be at least 600 mm to allow electric cartrid-ges to be replaced.

The connection of the boiler and the heating sys-tem must be in accordance with the system dia-gram below.

Ambient room temperature must not exceed 30 ºC.

The boiler is designed for use in sealed systems. Hard, (calcium-rich) water is not suitable for the boiler. “Hard” water calcium deposits may da-mage the boiler; in very hard water areas, water softeners may be required, check the pH value is not low – pH7 is neutral. Note: high Chlorine water treatment levels may damage parts of the boiler, particularly the heating cartridges.

When connecting external pipe work to the boi-ler, care must be taken not to bend or damage the boilers internal pipe work.

Isolation valves must be mounted between the electric boiler and the heating system to simplify filling and draining.

All pipe connectors are ¾” female.

Expansion vesselThe vessels capacity is 12 litres and is pre-pres-surised at 1.5 bar, which corresponds to a static height of 15 metres. At 1.5 bar, the expansion ves-sel can handle heating system volume of 200 lit-res, with a boiler temperature of 60 °C.

When supplied, the expansion vessel is pres-surised at 1.5 bar. This may require adjustment during installation.

The boiler’s electrical connection requires a cable measuring 5 x 4 mm2 Cu, with fusing at maxi-mum 3 x 20 A.

Outside temperature sensor

The sensor is mounted in the north or north-west facing wall, below the eaves and away from win-dows or doors. The sensor is attached to terminals 4 and 5 in the terminal bloc. The wires must be at least of 0.75 mm2 and they must not be placed near power cable, as induction currents can affect the signal.

Overflow valveThe (under floor) heating system should not ex-ceed a flow pressure of 20 kPa.If all of the heating system valves close, circula-tion ceases in the boiler and there is a risk of over heating, then the “maximum safe temperature” protection is tripped. To avoid this, an overflow valve is built in, ensuring flow though the boiler. If the pressure resistance of the heating system ex-ceeds the overpressure, flow problems can arise in the heating system.

FillingWhen filling the heating system, the safety valve must be kept open until water flows from the overflow pipe. Next, close the safety valve and fill with water and pressurise to approx. 2 bar.

Air-bleedingBleed the system of air via the air-bleed valves on the boiler and heating (system) manifolds. The air-bleed valves have a protective cap, these need loosening slightly to allow air passage.

To ensure air-bleed valves work properly, the sys-tem pressure must not fall below 1.5 bar.

Bleeding the pump is done via its air-bleed screw. Loosen the screw and hold a piece of cloth over the opening as a little water may spurt out.

Electrical installationElectrical installation work must be carried out by a qualified electrician.

The boiler and the heating system must be filled and bled of all air, before the boiler is powered up.

7 Switch 1 in position OFF

The output can be switched off by an external de-energised contact, e.g. room thermostat. Open contact causes stepped reduction in output. Con-nection is made to the base of the circuit board. The existing link between terminals 2–3 is remo-ved.

Output control with 0-10V signal

Assisted by transformers, the loading relay mea-sures loading affecting the main fuses. Fuse size, 16 - 50 A, situated on the circuit board.

The transformers are located on the wire from the fuses and must be protected. Connection is made to the base of the circuit board using high-current-insulated cable, minimum 0.75 mm2. The earth (grounding) is connected using terminal 4.

The transformers do not need to be connected if this function is not intended to be used.

Remote control / Switching offOne of the inputs on the circuit board has a dif-ferent function depending on switch SW 4/1. The functions cannot be used simultaneously.

1. Remote control, which depends on the in-put status, switches between normal tempe-rature mode and low temperature mode.

2. Switching off the entire boiler output.

Example; this function can be used to maintain a low temperature for frost protection when the house is not occupied. By connecting the system to phone-based control, the temperature can be varied by making a phone call. The contact fun-ction in the control unit must be de-energized.

Open between 2 – 3, temperature corresponds to the setting shown in item 8.

Shut between 2 – 3, ordinary temperature set-ting.

The boiler’s output can be altered by using the 0 – 10V DC signal, which corresponds to 0%–100% of the boilers capacity as installed: see below. Con-nection is implemented to the base of the circuit board. The jumper between brackets 2 - 3 is not involved in this function.

Installed capacityThe selected number of levels corresponds to the installed capacity.

Example:The selection has been done so that the boiler’s maximum allowed output is 7.9 kW, five levels selected. Installed capacity corresponds to 7.9 kW. When applying voltage-based control, 0 – 10V DC, 10V is needed for connecting five levels. The same applies to the voltage signal for con-nected capacity.

Delay in connection following a voltage non-responseIn accordance with the regulations, the electric heating capacity in excess of 6 kW is delayed fol-lowing reconnection after a voltage non-respon-ses of more than three minutes. Once the voltage is back on, no more than three output levels are connected; the remaining levels are delayed by approx. 2 hours.

13

The connection delays can be temporarily by-passed in order to monitor the functioning of the boiler. Press down and keep pressed down the SNABB (Quick) button, no. 13, until the illumina-ted text “Status” is shown.

Operation and maintenanceWith installation completed, check with the instal-ler that the appliance is fully operational. Ask the installer that did the installation work to show you the controls and functions so that you will know how the system works and how to look after it.

Check the following:• That the boiler and the heating system are

filled with water and any air in them has been evacuated.

• That the air-vent is open to allow air to come out.

• That all pipe connectors are tight, no leaks.• That the safety valve works; water should

come out of the overflow pipe when this valve is operated.

Switching on• Switch on the boiler by turning the main

switch to position I, which should result in the boiler’s operation and status indicator to be illuminated.

• Set the desired temperature, see item Con-trol panel. The output level must be ad-justed if there is a need for heat. You can shorten the output adjustment time by keeping the “Snabb” (Quick) button press-sed down until the desired number of levels have been connected.

• Circulation pump starts up when Output Level 1 is selected.

Water pressure in the systemCheck regularly that the system’s water pressure is sufficient. The pressure gauge reading should be 1.5 – 2.0 bar.

If the system’s pressure drops and does not rise, fill it up with water until the pressure gauge shows approx. 2 bar. Repeated problems in main-taining the pressure may be an indication of a leak in the system.

Water volume varies according to its temperature and this affects the pressure in the system. The higher the temperature, the greater the volume

and pressure. The expansion vessel accounts for some of the volume variation. Do not add water unless necessary.

Expansion vesselThe pre-pressure needs to be checked at intervals of a few years by a competent installer.

Safety valveThe valve opens at 2.5 bar and its closing pres-sure is slightly less. This valve needs to be ope-rated at regular intervals, about every 3 months. Do this by turning the valve handle until water comes out of the overflow pipe. Contact a compe-tent installer if the safety valves open repeatedly.

Air-bleedingSome air may remain in the heating system after installation, which is why air-bleeding should be done a few times afterwards on the under floor heating system/radiator system.

Check the pressure after air-bleeding and whene-ver you fill up the system.

Air-bleeding valve

Isolation valve

The electric boiler is equipped with an automatic air-bleed valve which facilitates air-bleeding in connection with startup. The bleed valve should be closed approx. 1 month after the heating sys-tem has been switched on.

Temperature settingSee item Control panel.

Delay in connection following a voltage interup-tionActive delay is indicated by the flashing of the status indicator, see item 10, and Control panel.

Switched off main switch or triggered overhea-ting (maximum safe temperature) protection, have the same result as a voltage outage.

Loading relayThe loading relay limits the boiler output when other appliances (e.g. washing machine, cooker) are in operation at the same time as the boiler. Then, as soon as the situation allows it, the se-lected output level is automatically back on. The situation where the loading relay limits the boiler output is indicated by the flashing of the status indicator, see item 10 and Control panel.

Room thermostat / External switchingIf a room thermostat is connected to the boiler, it is to be used in limiting the maximum room tem-perature. Situation where the room thermostat / external swithing are limiting the boiler output, is indicated by the flashing of the status indicator, see item 10 and Control panel.

Overheating (maximum safe temperature) protection

The electric boiler’s overheating (maximum safe temperature) protection is triggered at approx. 95 °C. Resetting is possible when the tempera-ture has dropped to below 80 °C. Press down the Overheating protection button using a small object (press button hard), see item 3, Control panel.

Measures to be taken when there is a risk of

freezingWhenever there is a risk of freezing, do not shut down any part of the heating system as fracture may occur due to freezing. Should some part of the heating system show signs of having frozen, call a plumber to assess the situation and damage.

If the heating system needs to be shut down, it must be drained or alternatively the system needs to be filled with a mixture of water and glycol.

DrainingBefore draining the system, cut of the power supply to the boiler in order to avoid damaging the electric cartridge.

TroubleshootingMeasures requiring tools should be carried out by a qualified installer. Begin troubleshooting by viewing the status indicators, see item 10, and Control panel.

Fault Possible cause Remedial messureOperation and status indicator not illumina-ted, no heat.

Electric boiler without power. Check main fuses. Main switch turned off. Turn main switch to position 1. Connection delay switches off

output if boiler without power longer than 3 minutes. Operation indicator illuminated and status indicator not illumina-ted, no heat.

Selector switch in position: Select an operation mode.

Low initial value. Initial value below 15 °C, i.e. no need for heating. Thermostat valve / valves in radiator system or room thermostat of floor-based heating system set for low temperature.

Set thermostat valve / valve or room thermostat to desired temperature.

Operation and status indicator illuminated, no heat or not enough heat.

Incorrectly set regulators. Check selections regarding heating graph, transition heating graph, maximum temperature and night-time temperature drop. Check selector setting.

Overheating (maximum safe tempe-rature) protection function has been triggered.

If overheating (maximum safe temperature) protection function has been triggered, check functioning of circulation pump and valves. Reset by pressing overheating (maximum safe temperature) protection button down after temperature has dropped below 80 °C.

Electric boiler fun-ctions normally, but not enough heat.

Counter-pressure in heating system has exceeded overflow valve’s ope-ning pressure.

Check heating system’s counter-pressure. Contact plumber.

Electric boiler’s group fuses blown.

Electric cartridge damaged. Check electric cartridge’s isolation. If electric cartridge has to be replaced, it is important to separate the loops in order to avoid sound of boiling alarm.

Water leaks out from air-bleeder.

Impurities in air-bleeder or broken air-bleeder.

Replace or clean air-bleeder.
