Many businesses are viewing the future with a sense of optimism as the general economic situation continues to improve and we are no different. London, particularly, is again a hive of activity with resurgence in the construction industry the skyline is dominated by tower cranes and the emergence of new iconic buildings. We are very proud to be playing our part in ensuring that these developments achieve higher environmental standards than ever before. To ensure that we keep up with our customers and continue to lead in our field, we have been investing in our plant, software and new vehicles, recently placing our largest ever order for 30 new Euro 6 vehicles. We have also started the construction of our new Materials Recycling Facility in Enfield which will see our existing Transfer Station transformed with new buildings and processing equipment. This development will add vital waste processing capacity to the area and we look forward to announcing some further exciting development news as the year progresses. On the sporting front, you may have read that our ongoing sponsorship of London Irish Rugby has taken on a new look. We have extended our agreement with the club for a further two years and I along with other friends in a consortium have acquired the club. The key objectives for us are to reconnect the club with its existing support, build the supporter base, return the club to the top of the Aviva Premiership and challenge for trophies so I hope to see many of you at games this coming season. Finally, very many thanks for your continued support and if you would like to find out more please get in touch. Mick We are very pleased to announce that we have started construction on a new Materials Recycling Facility to redevelop our waste transfer station in Enfield, North London. The plant will create up to 60 new jobs and support the construction and waste industries’ commitments to reduce waste to landfill. Like our existing Old Oak Sidings site, it will produce high quality recycled materials and renewable fuels for onward supply into the energy market. Targeted for completion in April 2015, our new MRF will recycle and process 330,000 tonnes of construction and commercial waste from the London area. Mark Bensted, Managing Director, says: “We are delighted to be able to start construction of this site. We are very pleased to announce that we have started construction on a new Materials Recycling Facility to redevelop our waste transfer station in Enfield, North London.

The plant will provide an environmental solution which supports industry in the Capital and avoids the additional transport distances and environmental impact involved in landfill.”

We are delighted to be in the process of updating our software to be able to offer our clients secure access to real time information. This exciting new development builds on our extensive detailed reporting capability and offers many benefits including live up-to-date waste recycling reports, e-invoicing with access to all supporting documentation, SMS order updates and online account management. We will be offering this new service to all our clients with roll out expected to commence later this summer.

Powerday has been awarded silver accreditation in the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) as we have continued to expand our fleet this year with the purchase of 30 new Crossrail and Euro 6 compliant vehicles since April. We previously held bronze accreditation in the Transport for London scheme designed to help

improve the safety and efficiency of freight delivery in London and the UK. Our current £2.5 million fleet investment programme will see all our vehicles upgraded to Crossrail and Euro 6 specifications during 2014 ensuring Powerday meets the highest possible standards in road haulage in the sector.

In with the newAlways looking to stay one step ahead, we launched our new website in April. With a fresh and bold look and feel, the new site features a 3D model and a video of Old Oak Sidings to provide greater insight into the operations at the largest Materials Recycling Facility in Southern England. The site also features documents available to download, contact information for the team at Powerday and it will also host the secure access for our clients to view their transactions as they happen. If you haven’t already visited, we would encourage you to go to www.powerday.co.uk, we hope you like it and would welcome any feedback you have.

Pipped to the post in Construction News AwardsPowerday, St George and Kotuku CIC were pipped to the post in the Construction News Awards this month. The partnership was shortlisted in the Training Initiative of the Year category for their work to deliver the Kotuku Environmental Labour Project but lost out on the night to Building Lives CIC. The scheme has equipped 80 young unemployed Londoners with relevant skills and qualifications and provided 69 of them with work opportunities in the construction and waste industries. The programme will continue to run and offer opportunities to young Londoners, if you would like to find out more please contact [email protected]
