Little Elm High School Cheerleaders ConstitutionThe members of the LEHS Cheerleaders must adhere to the following articles. It must be understood that as a member of this organization, the student becomes a representative of the Little Elm ISD and of Little Elm High School and each member must maintain high moral and ethical standards at all times both on and off campus. Membership may be terminated at any time for unacceptable of conduct at the discretion of the Cheer Coach and/or Administration.

ARTICLE I. PURPOSEThe purpose of the Little Elm High School cheerleaders is to create and promote loyal school spirit and pride, encourage quality performance and high academic standards. The LEHS cheerleaders will encourage their student body and their community through support in the promotion of athletic events and activities which will inspire the athletes to perform to the best of their ability. The purpose shall also

be to develop character, leadership, self-discipline, sportsmanship and individual responsibility in each member, while maintaining high moral standards. Cheerleaders shall exemplify both individual and group behavior suitable to their position and in accordance with the rules as stated in the Student Handbook, Student Code of Conduct, and the Cheer Constitution. Each member agrees to abide by the rules and regulations set forth in this constitution. Being a cheerleader is an honor and a special privilege.

ARTICLE II. PHILOSOPHYThe Little Elm High School Cheerleaders’ mission is to maintain an excellent level of performance while emphasizing and setting an exemplary example for the student body at Little Elm High School. Cheerleaders represent our school and our program whether in uniform or not.

ARTICLE III. DEFINITIONCHEERLEADING YEAR: The rules and procedures outlined in this constitution are in effect from the time the student is selected to the cheerleading squad until the next tryout date. A cheerleader is recognized as such for a “cheer year.” A Cheer Year begins once cheerleaders are selected after tryouts and ends on the Friday before tryout clinic for the next tryout process. Academic guidelines per TEA are in effect of the school year and governed by UIL policy.

ARTICLE IV. TRYOUT ELGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS

Section 1. Membership in this organization shall be restricted to Little Elm High School students, as well as appropriate freshman feeder school.

Section 2. Prospective Freshman team members shall be entering grade 9. Prospective Junior Varsity team members shall be entering grade 10 or 11. Prospective Varsity members shall be entering grades 10, 11, or 12. Grade level will be based on school credits. The mascot can be of any grade level.

Section 3. Prospective members must meet the following requirements:A. By the start of the 2015-2016 academic school year, all members of the cheer squad

must be enrolled in LEISD and reside in LEHS attendance zone. (see Sec. 3-B for exceptions)

B. If candidate is not enrolled in LEISD at the time of tryouts, students must provide records of where they are currently enrolled, unless prior approval by administration. Candidates (not enrolled) will be allowed to tryout, knowing he/she will have a NON-REFUNDABLE financial commitment to the program. He/she will still be required to meet all the payment deadlines. Incoming candidate must have the enrollment process completed prior to camp, or he/she will be removed from the team.

C. Candidate must not have been academically ineligible for more than one 6-week period on a report card during current academic year. (Unless approved by an administrator.)

D. Candidate must have no more than two ISS assignments for tardies, dress code, or badge violations during the current academic school year.

E. Candidate must have no more than one ISS assignment for discipline during the current academic school year.

F. Candidate must have no OSS or DAEP assignments during the current academic year. (Unless approved by an administrator.)

G. Any candidate who lost credit for any course due to excessive absences, or any student who was charged with truancy, will not be allowed to try out. (Unless approved by an administrator.)

H. Any candidate who was involved in the cheer program the prior year, and was released for any circumstances including discipline and/or grades, will only be allowed to tryout with coach and administrative approval.

I. Any candidate who has been dismissed or has resigned from the cheerleading organization for any reason will be ineligible to tryout.

J. All candidates must be in good financial standing with the district, and have no outstanding debts.

Section 4. All candidates and at least one parent/guardian of each candidate must be present at the MANDATORY orientation meeting or must contact the coach prior to the meeting in order

to be eligible to tryout. Even if approved to miss the meeting, the candidate must have submitted his/her name to the LEHS cheer coaches as prospective candidates.

Section 5. All former cheerleaders and mascot will tryout each year. No one can be automatically reinstated.

Section 6. Candidates or current members who plan to graduate within the cheerleading school year may not tryout or retain membership in the cheerleading organization. Early graduation is strictly prohibited.

Section 7. All forms must be on file prior to or on February 27th, 2015 in order for a candidate or returning member to qualify for membership.A. Cheerleader Application Form: completed by the applicant and his/her parent guardian.B. Parent Permission Form: completed by the applicant and his/her parent guardian.C. Constitution Acknowledgement Form: completed by the applicant and his/her

parent/guardian D. Current Physical: If a candidate has a physical on file with another coach, it is the

candidate’s responsibility to get a copy to turn in with this packet. Physicals are due before participating in any cheerleading activity and must be good for one full year

E. Meeting : The candidate and at least one parent/guardian will be required to attend the tryout Information meeting and SIGN IN. This meeting is MANDATORY.

F. Current Report Card : Showing the 1st though the 4th six week grading periods.Section 8. Anyone who meets tryout eligibility and requirements will not be discriminated against

because of race, gender, creed, educational handicap, or disabilityARTICLE V. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

Section 1. A candidate must WANT to be a Little Elm High School Cheerleader. Section 2. A candidate must understand that it is a privilege, not a right, to be a member. Section 3. A candidate must be willing to abide by rules and follow directions from the coach and

captains. Section 4. A candidate must demonstrate responsibility at all times. Section 5. A candidate must be willing to participate in fundraising projects. Section 6. A candidate must understand that any decision made by the coach or captain(s) is in the

best interest of the team.

Section 7. A candidate must understand that the schedule and discipline of a cheerleader demands a high degree of determination, hard work, strength, dedication, self-discipline and loyalty to the team concept.

Section 8. A candidate must be cooperative. Section 9.

A candidate must have a current physical confirming that he/she is physically able to complete all requirements of cheerleading, including daily jumps, cheers, tumbling, stunting and/or conditioning.

ARTICLE VI. TRYOUTS Section 1. The entire tryout is CLOSED to parents and family. Only candidates, coaches, and

administration are allowed in the gym during the tryout process. Cell phones, bags, and communication devices are prohibited in the tryout and the clinic.

Section 2. Refer to the Little Elm Tryout Packet for the tryout process.Section 3. The cheer candidate’s tryout for membership will be evaluated and scored by a panel of

qualified judges.

Section 4. Candidates will be expected to perform a specific required cheer, chants, jumps and dance at tryouts.

Section 5. Candidates will be evaluated on abilities, jumps, motions, and a dance. See the Little Elm

Tryout Packet for more information.Section 6. A. The selection process and point system used are defined in the Little Elm Tryout

Packet.B. Cheerleaders will be selected based on a point system as defined in the Little Elm

Tryout Packet.C. Teams will be determined based on the scores accumulated during the tryout.D. Candidates that register late for LEHS after tryouts will not be allowed to be a part of

the team until the next tryout date.E. Tryout results are final.

Section 7. Should there be a tie, the following process will be used to break the tie and place candidates on the appropriate teams:

Best AttendanceGrades #A’s, then B’s, then C’sJudges Overall Score

Should candidates still be tied, Coaches and administration will have the final decision. All results of tryouts are FINAL.

Section 8. Announcement will be made via e-mail, 24 to 48 hours after the tryout selection process has been completed.

Section 9. Score sheets will be mailed only if a self-addressed stamped envelope is provided by the candidate at the time all paperwork is due.

Section 10. The new squad will report for practices/uniform ordering on designated days following tryouts.

Section 11. New and returning members must register with their counselor for the designated cheer class for the upcoming new-year.

Section 12. Anyone interested in Captain or Co-captain must apply. Details will come from the coaching staff after the selection process is made.

Section 13. It is possible that cheerleaders can be moved to a different squad throughout the season.A. It is up to the discretion of the coach on whether a cheerleader needs to move squads

throughout the season.B. Reasons may include an increase in skills, a reduction in skills, an injury that prohibits

performing at full capability, or a need for a specific position on either team. ARTICLE VII. MEMBERSHIPSection 1. Varsity – Top 15 sophomore/junior/senior girls / Top 5 sophomore/junior/senior boys

JV – Next Top 10 sophomore/junior girls / Next Top 5 sophomore/junior boys9th – Top 10 9th grade girls / Top 5 9th grade boysMascot

Section 2. Cheerleaders must tryout every year. Positions are not guaranteed each year.Section 3. Members will participate in all activities in which the organization is involved. This

includes all practices, performances, competitions, fund-raisers, and activities that the Cheerleaders are involved. Schedules will be provided as early as possible.

Section 4. Members must exhibit and maintain compliance of toward school policies and regulations.

Section 5. All members are required to attend summer practice and cheerleading camp. No cheerleader may leave practice or camp for any reason unless approved by coach.

Section 6. The term of membership shall be recognized as the time immediately following cheer tryouts to the time the next year’s tryouts begin

Section 7. Members may be involved in outside activities. However, cheerleaders may only be a member of a spring sport upon agreement between the cheer coach, athletic coach, parent and cheerleader

Section 8. Members are required to have cheerleading scheduled as a class, and must be able to attend all additional practices.

ARTICLE VIII. GRADESSection 1. Cheer coaches will conduct grade checks at the times designated by the official LEISD

Eligibility Calendar and Guidelines as set forth by University Interscholastic League (UIL).Section 2. Any member, whose recorded grade in any course at the time of an eligibility grade

check is less than 70, will become ineligible to participate in any team event as set forth by the UIL eligibility calendar.

Section 3. A student whose recorded six week grade average in any course is lower than a 70 at the end of a six week period shall be suspended from competition or performance.

Section 4. A student placed on academic suspension shall remain suspended for at least 3 weeks when progress report grades are recorded. At the end of the 3 week period, a student must have recorded grades at 70 or above in all course for which the student is enrolled. If all course are above 70, the student will regain eligibility one week after grades are reported.

Section 5. The UIL eligibility calendar that describes when we will be checking grades and when students are deemed eligible for participation is attached to this document. Please refer to this calendar for all eligibility inquiries.

Section 6. Students on academic suspension must continue to attend classes and all practices. Ineligible students must sit out all performances/competitions and may not sit with or ride with the team to any events.

Section 7. Ineligible students may not wear the cheer uniform or any article of clothing used to represent the Cheerleading Program during the academic suspension period.

Section 8. Fundraising obligations will still be required but must be done outside of the school day and separate from the events sponsored by the program.

Section 9. Cheer Syllabus and Grade Rubric 60% Demerits

A. Begin at 100 for each nine weeks - to determine grade- minus 2 points for each demerit accumulated in nine-week period

B. Non-Removable demerits stay on cheerleader’s record and are accumulated throughout the cheer year and deducted during the nine-weeks they were assigned. Coaches will adhere to Article XVII-Probation & Dismissal regarding non-removable demerits.

40% Rules, Procedures and Quizzes

ARTICLE IX. ATTENDANCE

Section 1. The coach will determine the status of an absence. Section 2. Cheerleaders on all teams will attend an instructional summer camp at a time selected by

the sponsor; failure to attend without prior approval from the cheerleader coach will result in immediate removal from the team.

Section 3. Cheerleaders may not have more than (3) unexcused absences from class, practices, and meetings. Absences in excess of three (3) unexcused may be grounds for dismissal.

Section 4. In order to receive an excused absence from class, practice, or performance, a member must present a written note or email (from parent/guardian) to the coach within two (2) days of the absence. The note must include cheerleader’s name, date, reason for absence, and parent/guardian signature and phone number. In case of illness, a parent/guardian must notify the coach by telephone prior to class, practice, event or performance.

Section 5. LEHS Guidelines regarding attendance and definitions of excused and unexcused absences will be followed for missing school.

Section 6. In order to participate in any games or pep rallies, members are expected to attend school for a minimum of 5 periods to maintain eligibility for participation in an organizational

activitySection 7. Absence from any cheerleading activity/event will be unexcused except for:

A. Personal illness or accident B. Death in the family or funeral C. Religious Holidays D. School activity with advance approval from the coach E. Events previously approved by the cheer coach

Section 8. Cheerleaders must limit their number of excused absences as performance privileges may be revoked for excessive absences.

Section 9. In the event of an absence, the member or parent must inform the coach of the absence and the reason for the absence prior to any scheduled cheer event. The member is responsible for obtaining any information that was given on the day of the absence.

Section 10. Work, competition squads, and outside activities, should not interfere with class, practices, or performances and will be considered unexcused (unless approved by coach). An unexcused absence will result in the receipt of demerits.

Section 11. The coach or administration may bench a cheerleader at any time deemed necessary for safety and disciplinary reasons. Benching of a cheerleader for disciplinary reasons will result in the receipt of demerits and may result in removal from the team.

Section 12.

Failure to comply with absence policies, falsifying reasons for absences or truancies/unexcused absences may result in forfeiture of a performance, probation, suspension or dismissal.

Section 13. Cheerleaders who suffer injuries or illness must consult the trainer first and if necessary a doctor within 24 hours. If an injury or illness hinders or limits a cheerleader’s performance and/ or practice capabilities, that cheerleader will be required to provide doctor’s note outlining the specific limitations. Full participation will require a written release by the trainer or doctor detailing a return to the program without limitations. Limitations will be followed for the duration of the program until released.

ARTICLE X. PRACTICE RESPONSIBILITIESSection 1. Practice will be required and is mandatory each day.Section 2. After school, before school, summer, and other pre-approved practice sessions will be

required if they are designated practice sessions. Time specifications for these will be established, such as camp dates and other school schedules as they become available to the coach. All practice sessions for all members will be mandatory upon notification of these dates and times.

Section 3. Summer practices are mandatory and subject to disciplinary action per the Constitution for missing practices.

Section 4. Cheerleaders must be on time to all scheduled cheerleading practices. There is a five-minute passing period between classes. Cheerleaders must be changed and mats out 5 minutes after the tardy bell rings.

Section 5. Cheerleaders will not arrive late to practice or leave early from practice without PRIOR WRITTEN notice and permission from their coach, or said tardy or early departure will be considered an unexcused absence. Failure to follow policy will result in demerits earned. Plan ahead and accordingly.

Section 6. Members must wear the specified practice attire.Section 7. Gum, food, and jewelry are not allowed in practice sessions. Hair must be pulled back

and secured away from the face.Section 8. On occasion, some routines will need some additional attention. If the coach feels more

time is needed to perfect a routine, every effort will be made to notify the members of the extra time required to polish the routine.

Section 9. The following situations will prohibit the member from practice, performance or other scheduled cheer events:

A. The member absent from practice and suffering from illness will be excused from practice/performance only by receipt of a written note from the parent/guardian. The note is due immediately upon return to practice. After two (2) days, a doctor’s note will be required.

B. Any member suffering from injury will be excused from practice/performance upon receipt of notice from school trainer or attending physician. A note from trainer/physician will be required for reinstatement. Member must attend all scheduled cheer events and practices to observe and support his/her squad unless doctor suggests otherwise.

C. Any member placed on probationary status due to disciplinary or academic reasons will dress in appropriate practice attire during the designated class period and assume all responsibilities related to practice during that time period.

D. Any member placed on probationary status must participate in any other activities of the organization at the discretion of the coach.

ARTICLE XI. ROUTINE EVALUATION AND PERFORMANCESSection 1. Cheerleaders will perform in every game designated on their calendar. The coach

reserves the right to pull any member from a performance due to absences, attitude or lack of effort.

Section 2. Any member who misses practice during the week of the game, or in preparation for a specific performance may be eliminated from that particular performance.

Section 3. A cheerleader may be given extra duties for events; he/she will be held responsible for those assigned duties.

Section 4. During performances the entire team must be in uniform (all items must be matching, this includes winter layers).

Section 5. Members must not converse with family or spectators during a game or event unless given a break by the coach.

Section 6. In the event that a team advances to playoffs, the JV and Freshman squads may be required to attend in uniform.

Section 7. All members will arrive at the appropriate meeting places on time and in correct uniform in order to perform. A coach may penalize a member by sitting them out a portion/or all of the game.

Section 8. A complete uniform and equipment check will be held prior to any activity/performance. At this time the member should be completely ready and should remain completely ready for the activity/performance.

Section 9. The Little Elm High School Cheerleaders are also responsible for attending a variety of events to support many different activities. If an event has been put on the calendar, each member is required to attend the event unless prior arrangements have been made with the coach. A member can be excused from these events for the same reason mentioned above for games and practices; however, prior notice is required.

ARTICLE XII. UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT

Section 1. Members will pay for personal uniform pieces (i.e. shoes, bloomers, bows, warm-ups). Cheerleader coaches will provide a list of items required along with their total costs at the mandatory parent meeting scheduled before tryouts. All personal items must be labeled with the member’s name.

Section 2. Each member will be supplied a variety of uniform pieces and equipment that are property of the Little Elm ISD.

Section 3. There will be NO alterations made on the uniforms without permission from the coach. Section 4. Members are held responsible for the care of these school issued uniforms and should wash

them as directed and keep them in good condition. 8

Section 5. If any uniform article is lost or damaged, the cheerleader will be responsible to pay to replace the item. Replacement cost will be determined based on the actual cost of the uniform set and you will be charged for any damaged or unreturned school-owned uniform or equipment.

Section 6. Uniforms will be inspected for neatness by the coach and captains.Section 7. Members will appear at activities with proper or designated uniforms and must wear all

parts of designated uniforms while at an event/performance. This includes hair ribbons, the uniform, bloomers, proper underclothing (that will not show), socks, and shoes.

Section 8. Practice attire/uniforms are to be kept clean, kept in good condition and fit properly before each practice and/or performance and must conform to standards set by the coach and the administrator.

Section 9. For safety purposes, members must keep their nails trimmed. Any unnatural/acrylic nails must be “sport cut” and will be permitted by coach’s approval only. Nail color may ONLY be white French tips or natural color.

Section 10. When in uniform or practice, NO jewelry may be worn. All body piercings, except very small nose jewelry, must be removed before all practices and performances.

Section 11. Tattoos must be covered during practices and performances. Section 12. Uniforms must be worn to LEHS scheduled events only. Uniforms must not be worn, to the

mall, for Halloween or out and about with friends and family.Section 13. All cheerleader clothing, uniforms, jackets, etc., are to be worn by current LEHS

cheerleaders only. Cheerleaders may not loan out any LEHS cheerleading apparel to any non-cheerleaders unless cleared with the sponsor. Students who have been dismissed or voluntarily removed from the squad may not wear cheerleading apparel in public, under any circumstances.

Section 14. All uniforms will be returned clean.Section 15. A cheerleader or mascot, is eligible for a letter under the following criteria:

A. The cheerleader must be on VarsityB. The cheerleader must have cheered for a minimum of one Varsity Season (ex.

Football or Basketball) C. The cheerleader must be in good standing academically and eligible to cheer at the

time the letter is issued.D. The cheerleader is responsible for paying for the jacket. Pricing will be provided at

the time of eligibility.E. ANYONE CAN BUY A BLANK JACKET AT ANYTIME; YOU MUST EARN YOUR LETTER.

ARTICLE XIII. TRANSPORTATION AND TRAVELSection 1. Bus transportation will be provided to most away games in which the LEHS cheerleaders

attend. Section 2. Travel to and from cheer performances and outside activities on school provided

transportation is required to and back from the event unless a request to ride home with PARENTS ONLY is received in writing 24 hours before the event.

Section 3. Each member will conduct themselves appropriately and abide by all bus transportation regulations and school rules.

ARTICLE XIV. GENERAL CONDUCTSection 1. Cheerleaders are expected to behave in a manner that is becoming to the individual, as

well as to the organization they represent. They should be aware that in or out of uniform they are representatives of the LEHS Cheerleading Program and Little Elm High School and should act accordingly.

Section 2. Maintaining a higher standard of conduct will also include ensuring that all cheerleaders’ media, social or otherwise are appropriate. The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible platform for communication. Any communication appearing on the Internet is

public domain even if marked private. Cheerleaders are responsible for their personal communications and postings on any Internet site or platform. The area of appropriateness will include but are not limited to, language, pictures, suggestive poses, clothing, reference to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Any question of appropriateness will be decided by the coaching staff and the principal. Bullying, taunting or instigating of any sort will not be tolerated and subject for suspension or removal from the program.

Section 3. Little Elm Independent School District rules will be strictly applied whenever the team is officially representing LEHS, attending a school sponsored activity or while on a school sponsored trip. Each member must be aware that their conduct off-campus reflects on the team’s image and that any member who is guilty of engaging in any illegal activity will be subject to dismissal.

Section 4. Everyday Cheerleading Rules: A. Being a Cheerleader is an Honor, not a Right B. Be responsible for your own actions C. Gossip will not be tolerated D. Treat others with respect E. ARTICLE XV. FINANCES AND FUNDRAISING

Section 1. Finances are under the supervision of the LEHS Cheer coach. Expectations of payment and approximate full cost of the season shall be made known at the Mandatory Orientation Meeting. Failure to make timely payments will result in demerits, which will lead to probationary status, suspension, or dismissal from the team. ALL BALANCES MUST BE PAID BY THE DATE GIVEN AT THE TRYOUT MEETING UNLESS AN ADMINISTRATOR HAS APPROVED EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES. If payment is not received by the due date, the cheerleader will be removed from the team. No exceptions.

Section 2.

Cheerleaders will be required to participate in all fundraisers and fundraising events set by the Cheer Program, Coaches or Sponsors. Cheerleaders will be required and their parents are strongly encouraged to participate in team fund-raisers.

Section 3. Monies profited from team fundraisers (separate from Booster Club) will be held in the LEHS cheerleading Activity Account to offset the expenses incurred by the teams during the school year. Finances placed in this account benefit the cheer program and will be used at the discretion of the coaching staff.

Section 4. If a check is returned insufficient, it will be the team member’s responsibility to pay any necessary bank charges immediately by cash or money order. Receipt of a second insufficient check will require that all payments be made by cashier’s check or money order thereafter. Should the insufficient funds be associated with a cheerleading required obligation such as equipment, the cheerleader will not be allowed to participate until such funds are corrected. If it is a check collected in a fund-raising event, it is the member’s responsibility to collect the funds due.

Section 5. No refunds will be given to any who resign or are dismissed form the Cheer Program.

ARTICLE XVI. DISCIPLINARY/REWARD SYSTEMSection 1. A. The LEHS Cheer Coaches will have the authority to give demerits to any member for

not upholding the Constitution, school policy, and/or instructions set forth by the cheer coach.

B. Demerits will affect the active status for a member and are in effect during from the day of selection for the entire cheer year.

C. Cheerleaders will be notified via email when they receive a Demerit.

Section 2. When a cheerleader accumulates 5 demerits, the cheerleader will be required to sit out one performance. The member will still be required to attend all practices for that performance and the member must attend the performance and sit with the coach.

Section 3. A cheerleader that accumulates 10 demerits will be on probation. See Article XVII.Section 4. A total of 20 demerits will result in dismissal from the Cheer Squad. See Article XVII.Section 5. It is the member’s responsibility to keep track of her demerits. You should have some

idea of where you stand at all times. The coach will keep a master copy of all demerits and merits.

Section 6. Each demerit accrued during each 9-week grading period will deduct 2 points from the cheerleader’s demerit weight grade.

Section 7. Demerits: Not limited to (number given may increase for repeat offenses): Three tardies in one class, per semester. Verified teacher complaint: (email, person-to-person, letter, etc.) Paperwork or payments that are received after due date Leaving the squad during practice/game/event without direct permission from the

sponsor. Not dressed out correctly for practice (hair up, shoes on, jewelry off…even if

injured) Late to practice/game/event. Excessive talking at practice/game/event. Talking to people in the crowd while in sideline formation. Taunting the other team. Not standing at attention during national anthem and school song (for both

teams). Wearing incorrect uniform/outfit/bow/shoes. Wearing jewelry at game/practice/event. Hair not pulled back with bow at game/practice/event or in uniform. Use of cell phone at game/practice/event without permission of sponsor. Not hanging signs for weekly games/events. Not bringing required supplies (Ex: poms, megaphone) Not returning an item within a due date (this includes payments for dues or fees) Insufficient knowledge of cheers, chant, dance Public displays of affection while in/out of uniform

Undesirable conduct related to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or ANY other social networking site, including but not limited to postings, status updates, pictures, etc., proof must accompany any accusations.

Eating or drinking in uniform without permission from the sponsor. Not notifying sponsor of an EXCUSED absence prior to a practice/game/event. Not wearing spirit dress when required. Lending uniform, sweats, t-shirts, or jackets that bear the LEHS Cheer name to a

non-cheer member. Leaving an event early for an unexcused reason Disrespecting your captain or co-captain An unexcused absence to a game, performance, or an event with prior coach

notification.Section 8. Permanent Demerits: (May not be WORKED off with Merits)

UN-Excused to game, performance or an event - (5 Demerits) Not wearing required uniform for event – (2 Demerits) Office Referral – (5 Demerits) Showing disrespect or unsportsmanlike conduct – (2 Demerits) Public Display of Affection or PDA – (2 Demerits) Not dressing out for practice – (2 Demerits) Unladylike/ Ungentlemanly like behavior anytime/anywhere – (2 Demerits) UN-Excused absence to practice – (2 Demerits) Disrespectful to Coaches, Administration, Staff, adults – (5 Demerits) Insubordination – (5 Demerits) Undesirable conduct related to ANY social media or inappropriate usage of ANY

technological device including but not limited to text messages, pictures, snapchat, kick, Facebook, etc. – (Number of Demerits based on severity and at the discretion of the coaches )

Coaches may require conditioning along with any demerit or in place of demerits at their discretion.

Section 9. ***The following situations will result in 20 PERMANENT DEMERITS which means immediate dismissal for the remainder of the school year and forfeiture of tryouts the following year***2nd receipt of 69 or below on report card (does not have to be consecutive)

Placement in DAEP Continual/severe inappropriate conduct- Sponsor’s discretion with administrator

approval Any member proven guilty of smoking any inhalant including E-Cigs; involvement

with drugs in any capacity including but not limited using, taking, selling, endorsing, holding, or taking pictures with; alcohol; or any illegal activity as defined in the LEHS Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, local law enforcement, or as defined by coaches and administration

***Before a member will be dismissed from their duties and allowed to transfer out of cheer class, he/she must turn in all issued uniforms and accessories, pay for any and all debts, including dues, fees and fundraising monies and sign a member dismissal form****Any and all money that has been paid and deposited into the LEHS Cheer Team account is NON-REFUNDABLE ***NOTE:

Any other misbehavior or infraction not mentioned above may be penalized with demerits at the discretion of the Coaching Staff.

Section 10. SUSPENSION: 0-9 Permanent Demerits – Coaches discretion10 Permanent Demerits equal a 3 week suspension.Cheerleaders suspended from the program for Demerits and/or Academically, are required to participate in all practices and follow all policies, procedures and instructions required of them by the Coaching staff. They are NOT allowed to wear cheer wear, uniforms, and may not travel with the team nor participate at functions during their suspension.

Section 11. MERITS:The Merit System is designed to provide rewards per 9- weeks and annually as well as recognize members of the team for extra service to the organization, Little Elm High School and the Little Elm community. Merits are the means by which the cheer member may work off his/her demerits and be rewarded for her/his extra service to the organization. Each cheerleader will be required to keep a record of their own merits. All merits must be approved by the coach. The coach will maintain a record of all merits for each member.

It is the CHEERLEADER’S responsibility to inquire for merit opportunities. Coaches will gladly provide opportunities.

Merits opportunities will be determined by the Coaches and will be given solely at the Coaches discretion.

Merits can include but is not limited to extra tutorials, acting as a tutor, attending LEHS sponsored events not already on the Cheer Calendar, community service, etc.

Merits cannot remove or clear a cheerleader from a 3 week suspension once he or she has been placed on suspension.

Merits cannot be performed to allow a cheerleader back on the teams after 20 demerits are received. VALUE of the Merit is at the discretion of the Coaching Staff.

ARTICLE XVII. PROBATION, DISMISSAL, RESIGNATION Section 1. Probation is a period designated in which the member may not participate in organizational

activities. A probation contract will be written for the member and the member will be notified of their probationary regulations. Should it become necessary for a member to be placed on probation for a second time, dismissal may occur.

Section 2. A cheerleader may be placed on Probation Status for: A. Accumulation of 10 demerits B. Failure of one course C. Lack of respect towards the coach, other team members, faculty, school personnel, or school property D. Behavior that discredits or jeopardizes the integrity of the team E. Failure to abide by the LEHS Cheerleader Constitution F. Improper conduct/attitude G. Failure to follow school rules and policies H. Receiving unsatisfactory conduct reports I. Excessive absences or tardies J. Improper language K. Poor Sportsmanship

Section 3. Dismissal is an involuntary removal from the Cheer Program by the Coaches and/or administration for academic or disciplinary actions. All uniforms, clothing and equipment must be turned in and financial obligations must be cleared at the time of dismissal. Students may not wear any part of the LEHS cheerleading uniform. The cheerleader will be held financially responsible for any balance due. No refunds will be made.

Section 4. All rules will be enforced the day the cheerleader is selected; and remain effective until the end of the cheerleading year.A cheerleader will be automatically dismissed form the squad for the following reasons:

A. Failing two 9-weeks grading periods (does not have to be consecutive) during the school year.

B. Any cheerleader who accumulates any combination of 3 unexcused absences from team practices, games, pep rallies or other scheduled events.

C. Any severe inappropriate conduct as defined by Coaches and administration.D. Any cheerleader that accumulates 20 permanent demerits.E. Any member proven guilty of smoking any inhalant including E-Cigs; involvement

with drugs in any capacity including but not limited using, taking, selling, endorsing, holding, or taking pictures with; alcohol consumption.

F. Any illegal activity as defined in the LEHS Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, local law enforcement, or as defined by coaches and administration.

G. Failure to follow school rules and policies. Failure to abide by the LEHS Cheerleader Constitution.

H. Assignment to ISS I. Any member who is placed in DAEP or expelled.J. Any offense deemed severe by administration and the coach

Section 5. Resignation is defined as any individual’s choice to no longer participate in the cheerleading program. Resignation includes but is not limited to a desire not to try out for any reason including injuries or the desire to participate in other programs. Resignation is not dismissal. Resignation is a choice made by the individual to be removed from the program. Resignation procedures involve a conference with the cheer coach and a letter of resignation from the resigning member, signed and dated with the parent/guardian signature. All uniforms, clothing and equipment must be turned in and financial obligations must be cleared at the time of resignation. Students may not wear any part of the HS cheerleading uniform. No refunds will be made.

Section 6. In the event of dismissal or resignation during mid-semester, the student may be assigned to another class. The student will be assigned to a P.E. class if the schedule allows. Schedule will be changed by administration. Graduation requirements will be taken into consideration. P.E. can be taken for credit toward graduation requirements for 4 years. Other electives will NOT be considered UNLESS resignation or dismissal occurs at the beginning of a semester. Signature of this constitution constitutes permission from the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to make the schedule change if necessary.

Section 7. Upon resignation or dismissal, the former member loses all privileges of a Cheerleader and may not be a guest at Cheerleader functions.

Section 8. Once resignation or dismissal from the cheerleading organization occurs, reinstatement will not be allowed during the current year.

Section 9. Tryout eligibility for the following year will be established only at the discretion of the cheer coach and administration.

ARTICLE XVIII. MANAGERSSection 1. There may be one or more managers as determined by the coach. The manager(s) will be

selected by the coach.

Section 2. Managers are non-performing team members and must uphold all duties, rules and regulations presented in this constitution.

Section 3. Managers will attend all practices, performances and activities. Lack of attendance,

excused or unexcused may result in dismissal from the team. Section 4. Managers are responsible to the coach. Section 5.

Managers will wear uniforms designated by the coach.

ARTICLE XIX. COACH’S RESPONSIBILITIESSection 1. Be organized and prepared Section 2. Be a teacher of the sport Section 3. Be a student of the sport Section 4. Be positive and enthusiastic Section 5. Emphasize attention to detail Section 6. Care about each cheerleader Section 7. Lead each cheerleader to become better people Section 8. Be a woman/man of integrity Section 9. Protect each cheerleader from any physical or emotional harm to the best of his/her ability Section 10. Treat each cheerleader with dignity and respect Section 11. Enjoy the journey

ARTICLE XX. PARENT RESPONSIBILITIESSection 1. Parents must give their permission for their child to fulfill all the responsibilities of being a

member of the team before they are officially accepted. Parents must agree to support the cheerleader’s adherence to the cheer constitution.

Section 2. Parents must be willing to meet all financial obligations involved in having their child as a team member. All payments are final .

Section 3. Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to and from all activities, except when transportation is provided by the school district.

Section 4. Parents must to participate and support the LEHS Cheer Program and at various activities and fundraising events.

Section 5. Parents must to direct any concerns regarding the cheer program directly to the coach at a scheduled meeting time. Parents may not address concerns regarding their cheerleader at any cheer event

Section 6. Parents must cooperate with the coach and keep him/her informed of dates that might conflict with team activities.

Section 7. Parents should be supportive of their child and of the Cheerleading Organization.ARTICLE XXI. CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES

Section 1. The interpretation of this constitution is the sole right of the coach and administration. Section 2. We have the right to add or change those things which we feel must be changed for the

benefit of the organization or for the situation itself.

Section 3. This constitution is meant to be a basic operating instrument and is not intended to cover every operating policy.

Section 4. The constitution is subject to change at any time due to Texas Education Agency rule changes or with approval from the administration.

Section 5. The Coach may enforce other rules as they become necessary during the school year for the benefit of the organization.

In order for the cheerleader to retain this privilege, the policies and procedures contained in the constitution must be adhered to in the spirit of discipline, education and overall goals and objectives of the Little Elm Independent School District and the Little Elm High School Cheerleaders. The policies and enforcement procedures are relative to the LEHS Cheerleading Program and will be administered accordingly. The rules, regulations, and polices are all outlined in the LEHS Cheerleading Constitution.
