April 13-17 Song Lyrics

I’m a little Chick Tune: “I’m A Little Teapot”

I’m a little chick. Yellow and soft. I was born In a hay loft.

I play all day And cheep, cheep, cheep. Then back to the barn I go to sleep!

This is the Way

This is the way we plant the hay plant the hay, plant the hay This is the way we plant the hay so early in the morning This is the way we feed the chickens Feed the chickens, feed the chickens This is the way we feed the chickens so early in the morning.

This is the way we chop the wood chop the wood, chop the wood This is the way we chop the wood so early in the morning

This is the way we milk the cows Milk the cows, milk the cows This is the way we milk the cows so early in the morning

THE TRACTOR ON THE FARM Tune: “The Wheels On The Bus”

Oh, the tractor on the farm goes ‘round and ‘round, ‘Round and ‘round, ‘round and ‘round. Oh, the tractor on the farm goes ‘round and ‘round, All around the farm.

Oh, the cow on the farm goes, moo, moo, moo, Moo, moo, moo, moo, moo, moo. Oh, the cow on the farm goes, moo, moo, moo, All around the farm.

Continue with other farm animals and farm objects.

PIGS IN THE MUD Tune: "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

Roll, roll, roll around, that is how they stay, Oh so very nice and cool, on a sunny day! Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Jump to the Number

CIRCLE Activity Collection: Family

In this activity, your child will play a game to practice identifying numbers from 0-10. Children who have mastered this skill will practice ordering numbers from 0 to 10. This kind of game helps children match the number word they hear with the written number, and helps them attend to each number individually, which can be more challenging than just rote counting aloud.

Learning Area(s):Math, Physical Development

MATERIALS

• 11 pieces of paper with one number (0-10) written on each paper and taped to the floor in random order around a room.

LET'S PLAY

Say to the child: “Let’s play a game. I am going to say a number and I want you to jump to the number on floor. Let’s practice. ‘7’—we both will jump to number 7” (both parent and child should jump to the paper with number 7).

Continue the game by calling out other numbers in random order and having your child jump on that number. If the numbers are placed close to each other, the child may be able to leap from one to the other. If you spread them out more, the child may jump or hop all the way to the number you say. Either arrangement is fine.

TIPS

• Another variation on this game is to see if your child can jump or hop to each number in order (start on 0, then find 1, 2, etc.) while the numbers are randomly arranged around the room. If your child can easily do this counting forwards, try counting backwards (starting on 10, then finding 9, 8, etc.)!

• To add additional challenge, give clues about the number you want the child to locate. Example: “I’m thinking of the number that comes after 2.” “I’m thinking of the number that comes before 8.”

Great Sock Sort

CIRCLE Activity Collection: Family

Sorting, visual memory, and matching are important pre-math skills for toddlers. In this

activity, the child will use an everyday item, socks, to play a matching game.

Learning Area(s):Math

MATERIALS

• Pairs of socks (various sizes and colors are helpful)

LET'S PLAY

Show your toddler how to match socks. Explain that socks come in twos, one for each foot.

Lay four different socks in a line. Put the matches to these four in a pile. Ask your toddler to

find each sock’s partner. Help your child match the pairs by providing hints. For

example, “Which two socks go together? Which two socks look the same?” When

your child can match four pairs, add two more pairs. Add more pairs as your child becomes

more proficient.

Your child can also sort the socks into piles by color, by size, or by owner. Together, you

can count them, either by singles or by pairs.

TIPS

• For younger children, fewer pairs of socks are needed and they may need

assistance in matching the socks. You can guide them by saying, “Which

socks have ______ (same color or pattern)? Those go together.”

• If you find you don’t have many patterned or colored socks, this game can be

created using sock shapes cut from cardstock or construction paper.

• You can create matching games with other materials as well, such as container

lids, wooden blocks, toy animals, paint sample cards from a hardware store, or

lacing beads (watch for choking hazard).

AGE GROUP(S):

• 24-36 months
