Effects of Alcohol on Consciousness
Just a few drinks to loosen up, donchaknow?
After only four drinks consumed in a two hour period and movements become clumsy, speech is slurred.
After seven drinks in a two hour period, there is a 100x greater traffic
risk.
• At nine drinks vision is blurred and mental processes such as understanding become confused.
• At twelve drinks of alcohol, whether it is beer, wine or hard liquor, a person is incapable of voluntary action and the state of consciousness is akin to being under surgical anesthesia.
After 15 drinks of alcohol breathing and heartbeat are compromised and
death is a very real possibility.
Although we may feel more sociable initially ,with the release of stress and tension, just a few more drinks and we become depressed, aggressive and out
of control.
Despite the carefree feeling we get when we drink, alcohol is a
depressant.
