Estimado lector, nos complace entregar la segunda edición de CONPASA e-Magazine, la publicación trimestral de la

Confederación Panamericana de Softbol. Al igual que hace tres meses, en esta ocasión intentamos traer al público de las Américas toda la actualidad de nuestro deporte, en inglés y castellano, buscando acortar distancias entre nuestros países.

Nuestros lectores encontrarán en esta edición un informe sobre los Juegos Panamericanos de Toronto 2015, la fiesta máxima del deporte de nuestro continente. En esta ocasión, el Softbol vuelve a estar presente con las dos ramas, poniendo a los Juegos de Toronto como la competencia softbolística continental más importante de los últimos tiempos.

Además, en las siguientes páginas nuestro público encontrará dos interesantes entrevistas. La primera de ellas con Ron Radigonda, Director Ejecutivo de la División Softbol de la WBSC. Con él hacemos un análisis del presente y el futuro de nuestro deporte, con la mirada puesta en la realidad global del Softbol, pero también en el acontecer de nuestro continente. Nuestra segunda entrevista nos trae la palabra de Burkett Dorsett, Presidente de la Confederación de Softbol Aficionado del Caribe Inglés, quien nos cuenta la realidad de nuestro deporte en esta región. Personalmente me reuní con los Presidentes de las Federaciones Nacionales del Caribe inglés, y estamos delineando un plan de acción para apoyar desde CONPASA el desarrollo de estos países.

No puedo soslayar la realidad global de nuestro deporte. Por un lado con la alegre noticia de que el Softbol sigue en carrera para regresar a los Juegos Olímpicos junto con el Béisbol. En este sentido, seguiremos trabajando desde la CONPASA y las Américas para que este sueño se haga realidad. Por otro lado, también es digno de mencionar la celebración del Día Mundial del Sóftbol, el pasado 13 de junio. Ambas noticias están desarrolladas en la revista que está ante sus ojos.

Finalmente, traemos un adelanto de los dos Campeonatos Mundiales WBSC que se disputarán este año: el Masculino Mayor en Saskatoon, Canadá, que inicia en los próximos días, y el Femenino Juvenil en Oklahoma City, Estados Unidos, que será en agosto próximo. Ambas competencias tendrán una fuerte presencia de países americanos.

No me queda más que invitarlos a disfrutar del segundo número de CONPASA e-Magazine. Ojalá que lo disfruten y que su lectura sirva para seguir comunicándonos e intercambiando información sobre el deporte que tanto nos apasiona.

Dear Reader, we are pleased to deliver the second edition of CONPASA e-Magazine, the

quarterly publication from the Pan American Softball Confederation. The same way as three months ago, this time we try to bring to the public of the Americas all the news of our sport, in English and Spanish, seeking to bridge the gap between our countries.

Our readers will find a report on the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, the greatest festival of sport on our continent. This year, Softball will be present again with Men’s and Women’s competitions, putting the Toronto Games as the most important Softball event in the last years for our continent.

Furthermore, in the following pages you will find two interesting interviews. The first one with the Executive Director of the WBSC Softball Division, Ron Radigonda. We analyze with him the present and future of our sport, with an eye to the Softball global reality, but also in the events of our continent. Our second interview brings the word of Burkett Dorsett, President of the English Caribbean Amateur Softball Confederation, who tells us about the reality of our sport in this region of our continent. Personally, I met with the Presidents of the National Federations of the English Caribbean region, and we are outlining an action plan to support the development of these countries .

I can’t ignore the global reality of our sport. On the one hand, we must mention the announcement that Softball, along with Baseball, is still in the running to be back in the Olympic Games. In this regard, we will continue working from CONPASA and the Americas to make this dream come true. On the other hand, it is also worth mentioning the celebration of the World Softball Day, on June 13. Both reports are developed in this magazine.

Finally, we bring a preview of the two WBSC World Championships to be played this year: Senior Men’s in Saskatoon, Canada, beginning in the next few days; and Junior Women in Oklahoma City, United States, next August. Both events will have a strong presence of the Americas countries.

It only remains to invite you to enjoy the second issue of CONPASA e-Magazine. Hopefully you will enjoy reading it, serving to keep the communication going, exchanging information about our beloved sport.

El Presidente de la Confederación Mundial de Béisbol Softbol (WBSC) Riccardo Fraccari acogió con

satisfacción la noticia de que el béisbol masculino y el softbol femenino hayan entrado en la lista de deportes adicionales (eventos) preseleccionados que está siendo evaluada por los organizadores de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020 para su posible inclusión en los Juegos de 2020.

La Confederación Mundial de Béisbol Softbol estaba entre las 26 federaciones deportivas internacionales que presentaron candidatura a los organizadores de Tokio 2020 a principios de este mes.

“Este es un gran día para nuestro deporte”, dijo el presidente Fraccari, “hoy el béisbol y el softbol – y los millones de deportistas y aficionados que lo consideran su deporte – han alcanzado primera base. En nombre de la WBSC y del mundo entero del béisbol y softbol, me gustaría dar las gracias a Tokio 2020 y a su panel de evaluación por esta oportunidad de pasar a la fase II. Ser considerados para los Juegos Olímpicos es un gran honor para el béisbol y el softbol, y la posibilidad de que nuestros atletas representen a sus países en el escenario Olímpico es un punto compartido de esperanza y entusiasmo en nuestro deporte”.

Mientras la evaluación de Tokio 2020 continúa, la WBSC espera subrayar que añadiendo béisbol y softbol a los Juegos 2020 en Japón –donde el béisbol y el softbol están arraigados en la cultura, tienen instalaciones ya existentes y son populares entre ambos sexos – puede proporcionar a los organizadores de Tokio 2020 una herramienta más para brillar en la atención de los Juegos de 2020 y en el propio país anfitrión, optimizando la implicación de fans, jóvenes y público en general a nivel nacional e internacional.

En agosto se llevarán a cabo presentaciones ante los organizadores de Tokio 2020 por las federaciones internacionales preseleccionadas. Tokio 2020 tendrá hasta el 30 de septiembre de 2015 para proponer nuevos eventos al Comité Olímpico Internacional. La decisión final sobre la composición del programa deportivo olímpico de Tokio 2020 será tomada por la 129ª Sesión del COI en Río de Janeiro en agosto de 2016.

La anterior candidatura olímpica de la WBSC, que proponía la inclusión del béisbol masculino y softbol femenigo en los Juegos Olímpicos de 2020 y 2024, obtuvo la segunda mayor cantidad de votos en la Sesión del COI en Buenos Aires en 2013, terminando por detrás de la lucha libre. El Presidente de la Confederación Mundial de Béisbol y Sóftbol, Riccardo Fraccari, anunció hoy que el organismo mundial ha presentado una propuesta oficial al Comité Organizador de Tokio para los Juegos Olímpicos (TOCOG) para la adición del Béisbol Masculino y el Softbol Femenino en los Juegos de 2020.

“La adición del Béisbol y Softbol –un deporte global y altamente popular en Japón– puede ayudar aún más la posición de los Juegos Olímpicos como el centro del universo cultural y deportivo, ofreciendo a los atletas, organizadores y espectadores una electrizante atmósfera y sinergia durante los Juegos Olímpicos”, dijo el Presidente Fraccari.

“El Béisbol y el Softbol en los Juegos de Tokio 2020 pueden ayudar a difundir los valores olímpicos en toda la nación de Japón y a todo el mundo, además de dar gran inspiración a los que serán parte de los Juegos Olímpicos y serán atletas olímpicos, proporcionando otra vía clave al TOCOG y al Movimiento Olímpico para conectar directamente con millones de personas de todo el mundo, sobre todo jóvenes generaciones, mujeres y los fieles seguidores de nuestro deporte”, dijo el Presidente Fraccari.

“Esta sinergía sería un modo eficiente del punto de vista de los costos – de acuerdo con lo expresado en la Agenda 2020 – para hacer brillar aun más los atletas y los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokyo de 2020, además de potencialmente generar un mayor retorno para el brand y los patrocinadores Olímpicos. Todo esto puede dejar un legado maravilloso y sostenible para el futuro, un logro inspirado por la Agenda 2020 y los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020”.

World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) President Riccardo Fraccari welcomed the

news that men’s baseball and women’s softball have been included on the shortlist of additional sports (events) being evaluated by Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games organisers for potential inclusion at the 2020 Games.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation was among 26 international sport federations to have submitted bids to Tokyo 2020 organisers earlier this

month.

“This is a great day for our sport,” said President Fraccari, “today baseball and softball -- and the millions of athletes and fans who call it their sport -- reached first base. And on behalf of WBSC and the entire baseball and softball world, I would like to thank Tokyo 2020 and its evaluation panel for this opportunity to move into phase II. Being considered for the Olympic Games is a tremendous honour for baseball and softball, and the

possibility of our athletes playing for their countries on the Olympic stage is a shared point of hope and excitement within our sport.”

As Tokyo 2020’s evaluation continues, the WBSC will be hoping to underline that adding baseball and softball to the 2020 Games in Japan -- where baseball and softball are embedded in the culture, have existing facilities and are popular across both genders -- can provide Tokyo 2020 organisers with another tool to shine the spotlight on the 2020 Games and on the host nation itself, optimising fan-, youth- and overall engagement nationally and internationally.

In August, presentations to Tokyo 2020 organisers will be made by the shortlisted international federations. Tokyo 2020 will have until 30 September 2015 to propose any new events to the International Olympic Committee. The final decision on the composition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic sports programme will be taken by the 129th IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro in August 2016.

WBSC’s previous Olympic bid, which proposed men’s baseball and women’s softball for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, earned the second-highest amount of votes at the IOC Session in Buenos Aires in 2013, finishing behind wrestling. The president of

the World Baseball Softball Confederation, Riccardo Fraccari, today announced that the world governing body has submitted an official proposal to the Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (TOCOG) for the addition of men’s baseball and women’s softball at the 2020 Games. “Adding baseball and softball -- a major global team sport and highly popular in Japan -- can help further position the Olympic Games as the centre of the sporting and cultural universe -- providing the athletes, organisers and viewers with an electrifying Games-time synergy

and atmosphere,” President Fraccari said. “Baseball and softball at the Tokyo 2020 Games can help spread Olympic values with the entire nation of Japan and those around the world -- and give inspiration to be at the Olympic Games and to be an Olympian -- providing another key pathway for TOCOG and the Olympic Movement to connect directly with millions of people worldwide, particularly younger generations, women and our sport’s loyal fans,” said President Fraccari.

“This synergy would be a cost-effective way – reflecting Olympic Agenda 2020 – to help shine a bigger spotlight on the athletes and the Tokyo 2020 Games, while potentially generating a bigger return for the Olympic brand and sponsors. This can lead to a wonderful and sustainable legacy for the future, inspired by Olympic Agenda 2020 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.”

El 13 de junio se festejó una vez más el Día Mundial del Softbol, y en esta oportunidad la WBSC creó un

nuevo logo para la ocasión. El logo oficial fue creado para representar los colores de las banderas del mundo, mezcladas, juntas y unidas para el Día Mundial del Softbol 2015. Las formas dinámicas y diversas se abrazan unas con otras, emergiendo juntas a través de un espectro de colores para formar el icono central de la bola de Softbol.

El Vicepresidente Ejecutivo Dale McMann dijo: “La WBSC está encantada con esta imagen, la cual para nosotros refleja la energía de nuestro deporte, la universalidad y la inclusión y conexión con los jóvenes de todo el mundo”.

Last June 13 was celebrated once again the World Softball Day, and this time the WBSC created

a new logo for the occasion. The official logo was created to represent the colours of the world flags mixing together and uniting for World Softball Day 2015. The dynamic and diverse shapes embrace each other, merging together through a spectrum of colours to form the central softball icon.

Executive Vice-President Dale McMann said: “The WBSC is thrilled with this look, which, to us, reflects our sport’s energy, universality, inclusiveness and connection to young people all around the world”.

The creation of World Softball Day itself by the world governing body was inspired by the 13 June 1991 announcement by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that women’s softball would debut at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA. World Softball Day also pays tribute to Olympic

WBSC officials indicate that the World Softball Day 2015 has been set up to boost awareness that softball, along with baseball, is embraced by millions of people from diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds in more the 140 nations around the world – and especially young people and females.

“With World Softball Day 2015, WBSC will continue building baseball/softball’s position together as a welcoming, inclusive and gender-balanced global sport,” said WBSC Executive Vice-President Dale McMann.

People of all ages can shared their World Softball Day experiences and selfies via Facebook and Twitter, using the official hashtag #WorldSoftballDay and tagging @WBSC.

WBSC actively retweeted the “best of” World Softball Day quotes, posts and images throughout the celebration.

“World Softball Day will keep our sport evolving and strengthen the connection with millions of young people everywhere and with today’s youth culture, which is increasingly mobile and digital,” said Low and McMann.


La ciudad de Saskatoon recibirá una vez más

al universo softbolístico, cuando sea sede por tercera vez en su historia del Campeonato Mundial Masculino Mayor. Entre el 26 de junio y el 5 de julio 16 países de todo el mundo estarán presentes en la ciudad más soleada de Canadá para intentar escalar a lo más alto del podio.

Luego de recibir los Mundiales Masculinos de 1988 y 2009, y el Mundial Femenino de 2002, la Asociación de Softbol Amateur de Saskatoon posee una gran experiencia en la organización de eventos internacionales. Una vez más, el certamen se disputará en dos diamantes de la capital de Saskatchewan: el Bob Van Impe Stadium y el Gordie Howe Park, ubicados a escasos metros uno del otro.

El Mundial contará con la participación de 16 equipos, y nuestro continente tendrá una presencia numerosa en esta competencia, con un total de siete equipos. Argentina, Canadá, Estados Unidos, Guatemala, México, República Dominicana

y Venezuela le pondrán el color y el sabor de las Américas a este torneo, el decimocuarto Mundial de la historia.

El torneo se dividirá en dos zonas. En el grupo A jugarán argentinos, canadienses y guatemaltecos, que enfrentarán también a República Checa, Gran Bretaña, Indonesia y Nueva Zelanda. Por su parte, en el grupo B participarán las novenas dominicana, mexicana, estadounidense y venezolana, compartiendo zona con Australia, Dinamarca y Japón.

El público presente será testigo de 56 partidos de round robin, que determinarán los ocho equipos clasificados a los playoffs de la competencia. Esta fase se jugará bajo el sistema doble page, que luego de 10 partidos

universe, when the city organizes the WBSC Senior Men’s World Championship for the third time in its history. Between June 26 and July 5, 16 countries from around the world will attend the sunniest city in Canada trying to climb to the top of the podium.

The Amateur Softball Association Saskatoon has extensive experience in organizing international events, after receiving the Senior Men’s World Championship in 1988 and 2009, and the Women’s World Championship in 2002. Once again, the event will be held on two diamonds in the capital of Saskatchewan: the Bob Van Impe Stadium and Gordie Howe Park,

located a few meters from each other.

The World Championship will feature the participation of 16 teams, and our continent will have a big presence in this competition, with a total of seven teams. Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, United States and Venezuela will put the color and flavor of the Americas to this tournament, the fourteenth edition of the World Championship.

The tournament will be divided into two pools. In Pool A will play Argentina, Canada and Guatemala, facing Czech Republic, Great Britain, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, in Pool B will be the Dominican Republic, Mexico, United States and Venezuela, sharing group with Australia, Denmark and Japan.

The fans in Saskatoon will witness 56 round robin matches, which will determine the eight teams qualified for the playoffs. This phase will

El Campeonato Mundial Masculino Mayor vuelve a Saskatoon luego de seis años, ya que en el año 2009 fue sede de este mismo torneo. En aquella oportunidad una multitud colmó cada día el Bob Van Impe Stadium, siendo testigo del primer título mundial de Australia, de la mano de Adam Folkard que lanzó juego sin hits ni carreras en la final del certamen, ante Nueva Zelanda.

El último Campeonato Mundial de la categoría se disputó en febrero de 2013 en Auckland, Nueva Zelanda, coronando como campeón justamente al equipo local. El segundo lugar le correspondió a Venezuela, que obtuvo su mejor clasificación histórica en esta clase de torneos. En tercer lugar finalizó Australia, seguido por Argentina y Canadá en el cuarto y quinto lugar respectivamente.

El continente americano consiguió siete de los primeros ocho campeonatos mundiales disputados, quedando cinco en manos de Estados Unidos (México 1966, Oklahoma City 1968, Lower Hutt 1976, Tacoma 1980 y Saskatoon 1988) y tres en posesión de Canadá (Manila 1972, Lower Hutt 1976 y Manila 1992). Sin embargo, a partir de allí los equipos de Oceanía se han quedado con los últimos cinco Mundiales, cuatro de ellos para los Nueva Zelanda (Midland 1996, East London 2000, Christchurch 2004 y Auckland 2013, que se suman a los títulos obtenidos en Lower Hutt 1976 y Midland 1984

para completar los seis campeonatos de los Black Sox) y uno para Australia (el mencionado título en Saskatoon 2009). Nota: en 1976 hubo tres campeones, debido a que el torneo no pudo finalizar por lluvia.

A partir del 26 de junio los siete equipos americanos buscarán devolverle la gloria a nuestro continente, y arrebatarle la hegemonía a Oceanía luego de 29 años de dominio. Además, Argentina, Guatemala, México, República Dominicana y Venezuela buscarán darle a América Latina el primer título mundial de la categoría.

El primer lanzamiento del XIV Campeonato Mundial Masculino Mayor se encuentra a la vuelta de la esquina. Saskatoon volverá a ser sede de la fiesta máxima del Softbol Masculino. La pelota volverá a girar y dieciséis países de todo el planeta harán vibrar a los fanáticos presentes en los diamantes canadienses. ¿Habrá nuevo campeón? ¿Podrán los equipos de nuestro continente ganar el título al final del camino? La respuesta la sabremos el 5 de julio próximo.

The Senior Men’s World Championship comes to Saskatoon again after six years, since it hosted this tournament for the last time in 2009. On that occasion the crowd filled the Bob Van Impe Stadium every day, witnessing the first and unique world title for Australia, guided by Adam Folkard, who pitched a no-hitter against New Zealand in the final game of the tournament.

The last World Championships was played in February 2013 in Auckland, New Zealand, crowning the home team as a champion. Second place went to Venezuela, reaching its best historical finish in this kind of tournaments. Australia ended in third, followed by Argentina and Canada in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Historically, the Americas countries won seven of the first eight world

championships, leaving five titles in the hands of the United States (Mexico 1966, Oklahoma City 1968, Lower Hutt 1976, Tacoma 1980 and Saskatoon 1988) and three in possession of Canada (Manila 1972, Lower Hutt 1976 and Manila 1992). However, from there, Oceania teams have won the last five World Championships, four of them for New Zealand (Midland 1996, East London 2000, Christchurch 2004 and Auckland 2013; completing the Black Sox six titles with Lower Hutt 1976 and Midland 1984) and one for Australia (the aforementioned title in Saskatoon 2009). Note: in 1976 three champions were crowned because the tournament couldn’t finish due to rain.

From June 26 seven Americas teams will try to get back the glory to our continent and finish the hegemony of Oceania after 29 years of reign. In addition, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Venezuela seek to give Latin America the first world title in this category.

The first pitch of the XIV WBSC Senior Men’s World Championship is just around the corner. Saskatoon will host the greatest festival of Men’s Softball. The ball will spin and sixteen countries around the world will thrill the fans. Will there be a new champion? Will our continent teams claim the title again at the end of the tournament? We’ll know the answers on July 5.

Entrevista Interview

El 12 de julio de 2014 Ron Radigonda,

un experimentado administrador con un gran conocimiento del juego y de la gestión deportiva, se sumó como Director Ejecutivo de la División Softbol de la WBSC. A casi un año de su asunción, aprovechamos la ocasión para dialogar con Ron acerca de su pasado, la actualidad de nuestro deporte y su visión del Softbol a futuro.

- ¿Cómo se inició su relación con el Softbol?

- Empecé mi carrera en el Softbol a una edad muy temprana, como un bat boy del equipo de mi padre en la Liga Industrial de San Francisco, a mediados de los años 50. Tuve la suerte de que la ciudad de San Francisco patrocinaba ligas de Softbol y comencé a jugar a los 10 años. Jugué Béisbol en la escuela y jugué Softbol en varias ligas de San Francisco hasta que ingresé a la universidad. Ya en la universidad empecé a trabajar para el Departamento de Recreación de la ciudad de San Francisco, y trabajé en uno de los diamantes iluminados como supervisor del estadio para las ligas de adultos. an experienced administrator with a great knowledge of the game and sports management, joined the WBSC Softball Division as Executive Director. Almost a year after his appointment, we took the opportunity to talk with Ron about his past in the sport, the current state of our activity and his vision about Softball.

- How did your relationship with Softball start?

- I started my softball career at a very early age as a bat boy for my Dad’s Industrial League Team in San Francisco in the mid-50’s. I was fortunate that the City of San Francisco sponsored softball leagues and began playing at age 10. I played baseball in school and played softball in various leagues in San Francisco through college. While in college I began working for the City of San Francisco in the Recreation Department and worked at one of the night lighted softball facilities as the on site supervisor for the adult leagues. I moved to Sacramento, CA and began working for the City of Sacramento in 1970 and in 1972 I was assigned to run the City Softball Programs. I became the Amateur Softball Association/USA Softball Commissioner for Sacramento in 1982 and served in that capacity until 1998.

- For 15 years, you served as Executive Director of the ASA / USA Softball, living there much of the

Olympic history of our sport. How do you remember those years?

- My tenure with ASA/USA Softball was a very rewarding part of my career. I was very fortunate to work with a highly professional staff at the National Headquarters along with the hundreds of Commissioner, Junior Olympic Commissioners, and umpires that were the mainstays of the ASA/USA Softball Programs. During my tenure our relationship with the United States Olympic Committee was solidified and ASA/USA Softball became a model National Governing Body under their umbrella. Team USA, through a group of very talented players and coaches were able to capture Gold in Sydney, Gold in Athens, and Silver in Beijing.

The 2004 Team was very special as they endured tragedy on their way to the Gold and were elected to the USOC Hall of Fame in 2012. Along with the team recognition Lisa Fernandez was also elected into the Hall of Fame.

ASA/USA Softball created the World Cup of Softball and played annual events over the past ten years in the USA. These events were televised worldwide to as many as 140 countries and to over a million households in the USA. Teams from around the world participated in the events. - Hace casi un año fue nombrado Director Ejecutivo de la División Softbol de la WBSC. ¿Cuáles son sus principales responsabilidades en esta posición?

- Como Director Ejecutivo de la División de Softbol de la WBSC soy responsable del día a día de las operaciones de la organización. Trabajo en estrecha colaboración con el Presidente (Dale) McMann en la promoción del Softbol y en asegurar que nuestras operaciones se lleven a cabo de manera eficiente y profesional.

- Hace algunos meses se realizaron una serie de reuniones de trabajo en San Francisco, para diagramar la estrategia a largo plazo de la División Softbol de la WBSC.

¿Cuál fue el resultado de estas reuniones? ¿A qué conclusiones arribaron?

- La Comisión de Planificación Estratégica se reunió durante una semana en San Francisco, y con la ayuda de LBB Strategies se embarcó en el desarrollo de un plan a largo plazo para nuestra División. Actualmente estamos trabajando en un anteproyecto del plan que se distribuirá en breve entre los miembros de la Comisión para recibir sus aportes. Una vez recibidas las sugerencias de los miembros de la Comisión, será redactado el Plan Estratégico para ser presentado en nuestro Congreso, en Oklahoma City, en octubre. El plan final será escrito basado en los aportes de los asistentes a este Congreso, para que luego sea aprobado por nuestro Consejo de Administración.

- Estamos a pocas semanas de comenzar la temporada grande de eventos internacionales, con dos Campeonatos Mundiales (Masculino Mayor y Femenino Juvenil) por delante. ¿Cómo analiza la actualidad de los Mundiales de Softbol, con competencias cada dos años y abiertos a todos los países del mundo?

- El formato de nuestros Campeonatos Mundiales es a discreción de nuestras federaciones miembros y sus delegados con derecho a voto en el Congreso. El actual ciclo de dos años y campeonatos abiertos es nuevo, y significa un cambio con respecto al ciclo de cuatro años y un límite de 16 equipos

en nuestros Mundiales. Estoy muy emocionado de ver que 18 equipos se han inscripto en el Campeonato Mundial Femenino Juvenil de este verano en Oklahoma City, y que equipos que nunca han jugado en un Campeonato Mundial estarán haciéndolo por primera vez. Siento que vamos a tener una buena oportunidad para evaluar el nuevo formato este año y estimo que el formato se someterá a debate en el Congreso de octubre, por los delegados de nuestras federaciones miembros.

- Almost a year ago you were appointed as Executive Director of the WBSC Softball Division. What are your main responsibilities in this position?

- As the Executive Director of the WBSC Softball Division I am responsible for the day to day operations of the softball division. I work closely with President McMann on promoting softball and insuring that our operations are conducted in a highly efficient and professional manner.

I also attend our World Championships and other softball events and work with our local organizing committees in the operation of our events.

Another aspect of my job is to provide support to President McMann and our Board of Directors in developing the policies that guide our operations.

- A few months ago a series of meetings in San Francisco were conducted to chart the long-term strategy of

the WBSC Softball Division. What was the outcome of these meetings? What were the conclusions?

- The Long Range Strategic Planning Commission met for a week in San Francisco and with the help of LBB Strategies embarked on the development of a long range plan for our division. We are currently working on the draft plan that will be distributed shortly to the Commission Members for their input. Once received from the Commission Members the Long Range Plan will be drafted and presented to our Congress in Oklahoma City in October. Based on input from our Congress attendees a finalized plan will be written and adopted by our Board of Directors.

- We’re a few weeks away from the big international tournaments season, with two World Championships (Senior Men’s, and Junior Women’s) ahead. How do you analyze the present of Softball World Championships, being held every two years and open to all countries of the world?

- The format of our World Championships is at the discretion of our member federations and their voting delegates at our Congress. The current two year cycle and open championships is new and a change from our four year cycle and a limit of 16 teams in our Championships. I

am excited to see that 18 teams have entered the Jr. Women’s World Championships this summer in Oklahoma City and that teams that have never played in a World Championship will be competing in their first World Championship. I feel that we will have a good opportunity to evaluate the new format this year and I expect that the format will be discussed at our Congress in October by the delegates from our member federations.

- The growth of a sport is not only measured by the success of their elite events, but also for how it develops and spreads throughout the world. What is the WBSC Softball Division

doing to develop the sport in those countries without a great Softball development?

- One of the major projects we work on each year is the distribution of softball equipment around the world. We are fortunate that equipment manufacturers support this endeavor by donating equipment to us as part of our licensing agreements. To date, over 3.5 million dollars (USD) in equipment has been distributed to all corners of the world.

We are also looking into coaching instruction and coaching clinics to elevate the level of play worldwide. We have a great relationship with the National Fastpitch

Coaches Association and their members include many of the top collegiate coaches in the United States. Based on my long-term relationship with many of these coaches we will be working to develop coaching opportunities worldwide.

- Many times has been emphasized the weight that European countries have in the Olympic movement decisions. With this in mind, how do you see the development of Softball in Europe?

- Europe is an important region of the world as a high number of IOC members reside in Europe along with the IOC Headquarters. We are fortunate that the European Softball Federation is doing a great job in organizing

our sport in Europe. They conduct highly attended softball championships and have a solid structure and organization to promote softball. We held the Women’s World Championships in the Netherlands last year and I hope that other countries in Europe will look to host World Championships in the future.

- Our sport is in the running to be included again in the 2020 Olympic Games. What would it mean for our sport to be back in the Games in 2020?

- Being placed back on the Olympic Program would be highly beneficial to our Federations, their athletes, coaches, and umpires. The Olympics

would be the pinnacle of our sport and being back on the program would benefit the WBSC and our Federations through increased funding and sponsorships. The Olympics is one of the most powerful brands in the world and being back on the Olympic Program would elevate the awareness of our sport worldwide.

- Softball is part of the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games program, with both male and female competitions. How do you see the Americas Softball in general?

- I believe the Americas represent a highly competitive level of softball for both men and women within the region. The Men’s programs held a qualifier last year in Argentina and each and every team was competitive and represented their country at a very high level on the field. All of the games were well played and close with most games being decided by one or two runs. Also, five of the top eight teams in the World are from the Americas and they each have a legitimate shot at capturing Gold in Saskatoon this summer at the World Championships. Immediately following the World Championships the Pan American Games will be held in Toronto and the top six teams in the Americas will compete for Gold.

Capturaron oro y plata en el Panamericano clasificatorio de 2013 en San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lo que más me impresionó de ese torneo fue la gran mejora de muchos de los 16 equipos que compitieron en el evento. Los equipos de América del Sur, América Central y el Caribe han elevado realmente su nivel de juego y creo que esta tendencia continuará en el futuro. Como dije anteriormente, siento que el desarrollo de un programa sólido de formación de entrenadores mejorará el nivel de competencia en las Américas.

- Tal como mencionaste anteriormente, en octubre próximo se realizará el 27° Congreso de la División Softbol de la WBSC. ¿Cuáles son los principales temas que se tratarán en este Congreso?

- El Congreso es la oportunidad que tienen nuestras federaciones miembros para proponer cambios legislativos a nuestra Constitución y a nuestro Código Técnico. Gran parte de la discusión que tendrá lugar será una consecuencia de los cambios que se proponen. Desde mi perspectiva espero usar el Congreso como un vehículo para explicar nuestro presupuesto, trabajar con nuestra Junta Directiva en el desarrollo de políticas operativas adecuadas, y dar una idea de nuestra dirección futura como Federación. Uno de los temas que tenemos que discutir en detalle es el

the USA and Canada are considered to be two of the top five teams in the World. They captured Gold and Silver at the Pan Am/World Championship Qualifier in 2013 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. What impressed me most about that qualifier was the vast improvement of many of the 16 teams that competed in the event. Teams from South America, Central America, and the Caribbean have truly elevated their level of play and I see that trend continuing in the future. As stated earlier I feel the development of a solid coach education program will enhance the level of competition in the Americas.

- In October the 27th Congress of the WBSC Softball Division will be held. What are the main issues to be discussed at the Congress?

- The Congress is the opportunity for our Member Federations to propose legislative changes to our Constitution and our Technical Code. Much of the discussion that will take place will be a result of the changes that will be proposed. From my perspective I hope to use the Congress as a vehicle to explain our budget, work with our Board of Directors in developing appropriate operational policies, and provide insight into our future direction as a federation. One topic that we need to discuss in detail is development and hopefully establish a grant program that will be transparent

- In 2013 the ISF joined the IBAF, to form the newly World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC). What is your analysis of the new organizational structure of our sport?

- The establishment of the WBSC creates a compelling argument for the inclusion of baseball and softball on the Olympic Program in 2020 and beyond. By combining federations the WBSC represents the largest federation in the world that is not on the Olympic Program. The WBSC represents tens of millions of participants from all regions of the world with viable programs for men, women, boys and girls.

- What advantages does the union with baseball bring, a sport with more commercial appeal and development around the world than Softball?

- It is without question that baseball has worldwide appeal through their professional leagues and the star player images their leagues provide. Major League Baseball in the United States and Canada, the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan, the Korean Professional League, the Cuban Professional League, the Australian Professional League along with the Professional Winter Leagues that compete

Baseball has had tremendous success with the World Baseball Classic and it is anticipated their Premier 12 event this November will be equally successful. These formats could be used by softball in the future to gain more commercial appeal and the combining of baseball and softball into one federation could provide the catalyst for softball to gain a higher profile worldwide.

- Finally, how do you see the future of Softball in the coming decades?

- Softball’s future is bright. Our 120+ federations are working diligently to provide programming in their countries and our regional federations are organizing excellent championships that are raising the competitive level of softball around the world. Regional Championships are attracting more and more teams and spectators. Softball is unique in the fact that it provides a high level team sport to both men and women and also provides a recreational element through its slow pitch discipline that allows individuals to participate in our sport well into their 80’s. Softball facilities are being develop in all regions of the world and this will lead to the future expansion of our sport.

cobrará vida una vez más cuando el próximo 10 de julio se inauguren los XVII Juegos Deportivos Panamericanos de Toronto 2015. Y el Softbol dirá presente una vez más, como lo hace ininterrumpidamente desde 1979, con la presencia de las ramas Varonil y Femenil.

Los mejores deportistas del continente dirán presente en Toronto, que recibirá con los brazos abiertos a más de 11.000 atletas y oficiales de 42 países, sirviendo de escenario para un evento único. Los Juegos Panamericanos son el tercer evento internacional multideportivo más grande del mundo, solo detrás de los Juegos Olímpicos y los Juegos Asiáticos.

The Opening Ceremony of the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games will take place on July 10 at the Pan Am Ceremonies Venue, with the dominant presence of the Cirque du Soleil, which will infuse the ceremony revolutionary stagecraft, acrobatics and splendor.

For its part, the Closing Ceremony will be held on July 26 at the same venue, with the presence of Live Nation. This ceremony will honour outstanding Games performances and the contributions of all Games partners, while handing the baton to Lima, Peru, the Host City of the 2019 Pan American Games.

The TORONTO 2015

Pan Am and Parapan Am competition medals awarded for gold, silver and bronze performances tell the rich story of the “People’s Games” through a beautifully layered design that showcases innovation and inclusion. The Royal Canadian Mint produced the medals using metals provided by Barrick Gold Corporation.

The three irregular shapes layered on the front of the medals represent North America, Central America and the Caribbean, and South America coming together as the Pan American nations competing at the Games. The three layers on the front of the medal are raised—similar to a medals podium—creating dynamic texture. On the medals’ reverse, the shapes are sunken for a smoother finish and more formal presentation. These simple, curved shapes are inspired by the TORONTO 2015 logo, reflecting the city’s name and friendly, accessible character. The United We Play pattern is displayed on the middle shape, which combines sport pictograms and play icons that represent participation, excellence and inclusion. This graphic pattern inspires people to come together through sport.

Together we are one

On May 28 the Organizing Committee released of the official song of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, “Together We Are One”. The song not only reflects the enthusiasm and camaraderie of the Games, but also represents the cultural pride of the 41 participating countries and territories.

The song, recorded by Canadian artist Serena Ryder, was chosen from among 70 submissions. “‘Together We Are One’ unites everybody, regardless of who they’re rooting for. It’s their song. It’s everyone’s song,” says Ryder.

The song was written by Murray Daigle (also the producer), Jasmine Denham and Bobby John, with a French adaptation by Diane Cadieux and a Spanish adaptation by Celia Palli. The French version is sung by Jasmine Denham and the Spanish version is sung by Eva Avila.

“The official song is but one example where we’re elevating the Games from a sporting event to a celebration of the cultures of Toronto and the Americas,” said Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer, TO2015. “In five or 10 years when fans think about the Games, it will be ‘Together We Are One’ they’re hearing in their head.”

Entre el 30 de mayo y el 10 de julio se estará llevando a cabo el relevo de la antorcha panamericana, un viaje de 41 días en el que 3.000 portadores recorrerán más de 5.000 kilómetros por tierra y 15.000 kilómetros por aire, llevando la llama panamericana a más de 130 comunidades de Canadá.

Pan American Torch

Between May 30 and July 10 the Pan American torch relay will

take place, a journey of 41 days in which more than 3,000 carriers will travel 5,000 kilometers by land and 15,000 kilometers by air, carrying the Pan American flame over 130 communities across Canada.

The flame for the Pan Am Games was lit on May 26 during a traditional ceremony at the Pyramid of the Sun, in Teotihuacan, Mexico. Once lit, the flame was handed over to a representative from the Host City, and will then traveled to Canada to begin its nationwide journey before arriving in Toronto to light the cauldron at Opening Ceremony, which signifies the start of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games.

The Pan Am flame represents the history and spirit of the Games; it is a symbol that unites the 41 Pan American Sports Organization

(PASO) member nations.

Softball in the Games

Our sport has been part of the Pan American Games family since 1979, when Softball made its first appearance in the Americas sport festival held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This was a historic moment for our continent Softball, as it not only marked the beginning of our sport in the program of the Pan American Games, but was also the cornerstone for the creation of the Pan American Softball Confederation (CONPASA).

Toronto will be the tenth consecutive participation of Softball in the Pan American Games. From San Juan 1979, Softball has been continuously present in all editions of the Games, participating with the Men and Women branches until Rio 2007, where was only present the competition for Women (the same happened in Guadalajara 2011). However, Toronto 2015 marks the return of the Men’s competition to the Pan American Games.

Softball has distributed a total of 48 medals in the Pan American history, with the United States the only country to have won a medal in every Pan American Games competition, leading the medals table with 16 medals. Canada follows with 14, and behind Cuba with 8

Por su parte, en la rama Varonil Canadá ha dominado la competencia, ganando el oro en las siete ediciones disputadas, todas ellas ante el mismo rival, Estados Unidos, que ha conquistado de este modo 7 medallas de plata. Finalmente, los bronces se los han repartido Cuba (4), Puerto Rico, Panamá y Argentina, estos últimos tres países con una presea cada uno. En Toronto habrá competencia de mujeres y de hombres, con seis

medals, Puerto Rico 4, Belize 2 and Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Panama and Argentina, all with one medal.

In Women’s side, the United States clearly rules the medal table with 8 golds and 1 silver, followed by Canada (1 gold, 5 silver, 1 bronze); Puerto Rico (3 silver); Venezuela (1 silver); Cuba (4 bronzes); Belize (2 bronze) and Dominican Republic (1 bronze).

Meanwhile, in the Men’s side, Canadian team has dominated the competition, winning gold in the seven Games disputed, all against the same opponent, the United States, which has thus has won seven silver medals. Finally, the bronzes have been distributed between Cuba (4 times), Puerto Rico, Panama and Argentina, with a medal each.

In Toronto there will be competition for Women and Men,

Doce equipos disputarán los

Juegos Panamericanos de Toronto 2015, seis en la rama Varonil y seis en la Femenil. Sin embargo, habrá un equipo más, sin hinchada ni fanáticos. Un equipo vestido de azul. Son los 16 árbitros que cantarán bolas y strikes en el President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark, durante los 38 que se disputarán a lo largo de los Juegos.

En la rama Masculina saltarán al diamante junto con los equipos Javier Peñarroya (ARG), Peter Kluszcnski (CAN), Aaron Poulin (CAN), Gary Skjerven (CAN), Jorge Corvera Rojo (MEX), Edwin Cruz (PUR), Aaron Burns (USA), y Carlos Falcon (VEN).

Por su parte, durante la competencia Femenil vestirán la camisa azul Fernando Silva (BRA), Noreen Atkinson (CAN), Genevieve Gaudreau (CAN), Susan Stafford (CAN), Augustin Martinez (CUB), José Chaparro (PUR), Diane Carden (USA) y Manuel Tovar (VEN).

Finalmente, el Árbitro en Jefe de ambas competiciones será el Sr. Bob Stanton (CAN), quien recibirá la colaboración de Santos Vázquez (PUR) en la rama Varonil, y de Dora Martínez (USA) durante el torneo Femenino.

Los 16 oficiales provienen de ocho países, todos ellos participando de los Juegos Panamericanos.

Twelve teams will compete in the 2015

Pan American Games in Toronto, six in the Men’s competition and six Women’s tournament. However, there will be another team, without a crowd or fans. A team dressed in blue. They are the 16 umpires who will call balls and strikes in the President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark, during the 38 games to be played throughout the Games.

In the Men’s tournament Javier Peñarroya (ARG), Peter Kluszcnski (CAN), Aaron Poulin (CAN), Gary Skjerven (CAN), Jorge Corvera Rojo (MEX), Edwin Cruz (PUR), Aaron Burns (USA), and Carlos Falcon (VEN) will jump to the diamond along with teams.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s competition Fernando Silva (BRA), Noreen Atkinson (CAN), Genevieve Gaudreau (CAN), Susan Stafford (CAN), Augustin Martinez (CUB), José Chaparro (PUR), Diane Carden (USA) and Manuel Tovar (VEN)will wear the blue shirts.

The Umpire in Chief of both competitions will be Mr. Bob Stanton (CAN), who will receive the support of Santos Vázquez (PUR) in the Men’s competition, and Dora Martinez (USA) during the Women’s tournament.

The 16 umpires come from eight countries, all of them participating in the Softball competition Pan American Games.

Organizador de los Juegos Panamericanos de Toronto 2015 (TO2015), y sus socios corporativos, anunciaron la finalización de las obras del President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark.

PACHI, la mascota de Toronto 2015, subió al montículo del lanzador para tirar el primer lanzamiento ceremonial, con el apoyo del receptor Chris Robinson, miembro del equipo de Masculino de Béisbol de Canadá que ganó la medalla de oro en Guadalajara 2011.

El President’s Choice Pan Am Ballpark está situado en el Ajax Sportsplex en 1955 Audley Road, junto al Audley Recreation Complex. Dos canchas de Fútbol se convirtieron en los diamantes de Béisbol, y un diamante existente fue reconstruido para cumplir con las normas de la Federación Internacional. Los cuatro diamantes en “trébol” de Ajax, que serán sede de la competencia y los entrenamientos de Softbol, también recibieron mejoras para cumplir

Pan American Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) and corporate partners, announced the completion of the President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark.

Pachi, the Toronto 2015 mascot, step onto the pitcher’s circle to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, with support from catcher Chris Robinson, member of the Guadalajara 2011 gold-medal-winning men’s baseball team.

The is on the site of the Ajax Sportsplex at 1955 Audley Road, next to the Audley Recreation Complex. Two soccer fields have been converted into Baseball diamonds and one existing diamond was rebuilt to International Federation Standards. Ajax’s four “pinwheel” fields, which will host Softball training and competitions, also received upgrades to meet WBSC Softball Division requirements. The $9-million

capital project was jointly funded by the Government of Canada and the Town of Ajax. Construction started in August 2013 and reached substantial completion by the end of last August.

“Ajax loves baseball and softball —this town will welcome some of the best teams in the world to this wonderful ballpark that has been upgraded for the Games and as a legacy to the community,” said Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015).

“This historic event will put the international spotlight on our vibrant and diverse community,” said Ajax Mayor Steve Parish. “The town is excited to welcome up to 125,000 spectators and 448 athletes in 2015, and showcase our unique landscapes, culture, community spirit and history to the world”.

A fines de marzo la Confederación de Softbol Amateur del Caribe Inglés llevó adelante en Bahamas dos importantes eventos: el primer Campeonato Masculino de la región, y la segunda Asamblea General del organismo, donde el bahameño Burket Dorsett fue elegido nuevamente Presidente. Aprovechando esta importante ocasión, CONPASA e-Magazine dialogó con el Presidente Dorsett sobre la historia, presente y futuro de ECASC.

- Para aquellos que no la conocen, ¿qué es la ECASC?

- ECASC es el acrónimo en inglés de Confederación de Softbol Amateur del Caribe Inglés, el organismo que supervisa el crecimiento y la mejora del Softbol en el Caribe Inglés. Actualmente hay diez (10) países miembros en la Confederación: Aruba, Bahamas, Belice, Bonaire, Curazao, Islas Caimán, Islas Turcas y Caicos, Islas Vírgenes Británicas, Islas Vírgenes Estadounidenses y Jamaica; con Bermuda pendiente.

- ¿Cómo nació ECASC?

- ECASC se formó en las Bahamas en el año 2010 cuando, gracias a una invitación del entonces Presidente de la Federación Internacional de Softbol, Don Porter, los representantes de Aruba, Bahamas, las Islas Vírgenes Británicas y Estadounidenses, las Islas Turcas y Caicos, y Jamaica, con el expreso apoyo de Belice, se reunieron en Bahamas y convinieron la formación del cuerpo. Burket Dorsett de Bahamas fue elegido el primer presidente del organismo, y la ECASC creció desde allí.

- ¿Cómo describiría y evaluaría la situación actual del Softbol en la zona del Caribe Inglés?

- La idea detrás de un órgano encargado de supervisar el desarrollo de softbol en el Caribe Inglés resurgió hace unos años, con discusiones entre aquellos países que habían jugado un torneo de Softbol Femenino conocido en la década de 1970 como CAST, el Caribbean Amateur Softball Tournament (Torneo de Softbol Amateur del Caribe); esos países eran Bahamas, Bermuda, Belice y Jamaica.

In late March, English Caribbean Amateur Softball Confederation held two important events: the first Men’s Championship in the region, and the second General Assembly of the organization, where the Bahamian Burket Dorsett was elected again President. Taking advantage of this important occasion, CONPASA e-Magazine spoke with President Dorsett about the history, present and future of ECASC.

- For those who do not know, what is the ECASC?

- ECASC is the acronym for the English Caribben Amateur Softball Confederation, the body overseeing the growth and enhancement of softball in the English Caribbean. Presently

there are ten (10) member countries of the Confederation: Aruba, Bahamas, Belize, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Jamaica, Turks & Caicos Islands, US Virgin Islands, with Bermuda pending.

- How did ECASC start?

- ECASC was formed in The Bahamas in 2010 when on an invitation from the International Softball Federation’s then President, Don Porter, Aruba, the British, and the US Virgin Islands, Jamaica, the Turks & Caicos Islands, and the Bahamas, with the expressed support of Belize, met in the Bahamas and agreed to the formation of the body. - How would you describe and evaluate the current situation of Softball in the English Caribbean?

- The idea behind a body to oversee softball development in the English Caribbean resurfaced some years ago with discussions among those countries that played a tournament for women softball known in the 1970s as CAST, the Caribbean Amateur Softball Tournament; those countries were the Bahamas, Bermuda, Belize, and Jamaica.

The tournament was designed to improve the level of softball in those countries and led to them eventually enjoying much success in the region.

The countries played for what was known as the Herman Sporri Cup, an award made available by Mr. Herman Sporri of Jamaica. Competition was annually, alternating between the countries that were part of the program. The tournament was held by Belize (1972), Bermuda (1974), Bahamas (1975), Jamaica (1976) and Belize (1977). For some unknown reason that event died in 1978.

Talks of re-establishing the CAST began at the ISF Congress in Long Beach, California in 1997 when discussions were held among the English speaking countries about the event. Countries present at that meeting were Belize, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands.

Since that time the level of Softball play in the English Caribbean has fallen in both the women’s and men’s programs. This trend could be tied to the need for greater emphasis on the developmental aspect of the game, with a concentration on youth development, and training in the areas of coaching, officiating, and pitching. Softball in these countries is not as popular as say Cricket, or football and Rugby, and other English sports.

- What are the long term goals for ECASC?

- The Executive Body has taken a look at what is needed to re-create a greater interest in the sport and has embarked on a programme to

A pesar de ser un corto viaje tuve la oportunidad de reunirme con los Presidentes de las Federaciones / Asociaciones que componen la Confederación Softbol Aficionado Caribe Ingles (ECASC), esto gracias al Vicepresidente CONPASA para la región Jan Hendricks “Endy” Croes quien coordinó todo este esfuerzo con el Presidente Burket Dorsett y el Secretario General de la Confederación Gregory Christie.

Fueron 24 horas intensas donde tuvimos reuniones personalizadas, “uno a uno”, con los siguientes Presidentes:

1. Patrick Henry – Belice2. Clyde Shaw / Altamont Salomon (VP)- Jamaica3. Godfreyy Been - Turcos y Caicos4. Aschwin Fangman / Julio Hellburg – Curaçao5. Glenford Maduro - Isla Virgenes Britanicas6. Burket Dorsett - Bahamas / ECASC (re electo)

Desafortunadamente no pude reunirme con la nueva Presidenta de la Federación de Softbol de Islas Caimán Molly Ann Moore y estamos haciendo las gestiones para coordinar este tipo de evento con los Presidentes Warren Brooks (Islas Virgenes USA) y Phillip Ray (Bermuda).

A su vez, le extendimos una invitación al Presidente de la Federación Béisbol y Softbol de Haití para su inclusión como miembro CONPASA, ya que es reconocido por WBSC.

Esta serie de reuniones fueron muy productivas y estamos desarrollando un Plan de Trabajo que estaremos compartiendo próximamente, luego de que sea actualizado con los propios Presidentes de las Federaciones / Asociaciones Nacionales.

Agradezco la colaboración incondicional de nuestro Vicepresidente de Norteamérica y Presidente de Canadá Softbol, Kevin Quinn, quien ha estado trabajando mano a mano con este Presidente en el programa de auspicio entre países. Como reseñáramos en la pasada edición del e-Magazine, este programa comenzó en Jamaica y continuará sus esfuerzos con Bahamas y Aruba.

Nos reunimos finalmente con el Presidente de la División Softbol de la WBSC, Dale McMann, en relación a cómo podemos ayudar a la región del Caribe Inglés con el desarrollo de entrenadores, arbitraje y equipamiento deportivo. También estuvimos dialogando sobre el futuro de nuestro deporte, sobre los cambios en el Softbol mundial y cómo afecta directamente la composición de la División Softbol y en nuestro propio caso, a la Confederación continental.

Un día de trabajo maravilloso, con el objetivo de potenciar el desarrollo de nuestro deporte en el área del Caribe Inglés.

Despite of a short trip to Bahamas, I had the opportunity to meet with the Presidents of the Federations / Associations that make up the English Caribbean Amateur Softball Confederation (ECASC), thanks to the CONPASA Vice President for the region Jan Hendricks “Endy” Croes, who coordinated all this effort with ECASC President Burket Dorsett and the Secretary General of the Confederation, Gregory Christie.

It was 24 intense hours where we had meetings, “one on one”, with the following National Federation’s Presidents:

1. Patrick Henry - Belize2. Clyde Shaw / Altamont Salomon (VP) - Jamaica3. Godfrey Been - Turks and Caicos4. Aschwin Fangman / Julio Hellburg - Curacao5. Glenford Maduro - British Virgin Island6. Burket Dorsett - Bahamas / ECASC (re-elect)

Unfortunately I could not meet with the new President of Cayman Islands Softball, Molly Ann Moore, and we are making efforts to coordinate this event with the Presidents Warren Brooks (US Virgin Islands) and Phillip Ray (Bermuda).

In turn, we extended an invitation to the President of the Haiti Baseball and Softball Federation for its inclusion as a member of CONPASA, as it is a country recognized by WBSC.

These series of meetings were very productive and we are developing a work plan that would be shared soon, after it is updated with the Presidents of the National Federations / Associations themselves.

I appreciate the unconditional support of our Vice President of North America and President of Softball Canada, Kevin Quinn, who has been working closely with me in the cooperation program between countries. As we reviewed in the last edition of the e-Magazine, this program began in Jamaica and will continue its efforts in Bahamas and Aruba.

We finally met with the President of the WBSC Softball Division, Dale McMann, regarding how we can help the English Caribbean region with the development of coaches, umpires and sports equipment. We were also talking about the future of our sport, the changes in the Softball world and how it affects directly the composition of the Softball Division and in our own case, the continental Confederation.

A wonderful day of work, with the aim to promote the development of our sport in the Caribbean English region.

train coaches and offer competition geared to developing keener play.To date there have been two ECASC Championships played, the Women’s in 2014 won by Aruba, and the Men won by the Bahamas in March of this year. Discussions with other regional bodies have given us an opening to have our championship team compete in the World Games, as happened with Aruba in Colombia in 2013. But this can only happen if the host country has the sport on its calendar.

Additionally, discussions are pending with regional bodies, again to have our championship teams get an automatic berth in their championships without having to attend another qualifier.

Presently the final of two coaches training seminars being held in conjunction with Softball Canada will conclude in the Bahamas, June 26-20, with Coaches from the northern region of ECASC attending. Other members countries attended a similar session in Aruba earlier this year.

Additionally, coaches from our member countries recently attended the PASO High Level Technical Courses for Softball Coaches in Vancouver, Canada.

In an effort to better acquaint Governments with the sport, ECASC plans to meet with the Caricom Community’s Sports and Culture Committee, headed by the Chairman of

Actualmente, el segundo seminario de capacitación de entrenadores, que se dicta en conjunto con Softball Canada, concluirá en Bahamas del 26 al 29 de junio próximo, con la asistencia de entrenadores de la región norte de ECASC. Otros países miembros asistieron a una sesión similar en Aruba a principios de este año.

Además, los entrenadores de nuestros países miembros asistieron recientemente al Curso de Alto Nivel Técnico para Entrenadores de Softbol, organizado por la ODEPA en Vancouver, Canadá.

En un esfuerzo para que nuestros gobiernos se familiaricen con el deporte, ECASC planea reunirse con la Comisión de Deportes y Cultura de la Comunidad del Caribe (Caricom), encabezada por el Presidente de Caricom, el Primer Ministro de Bahamas, The Rt. Hon.

Como fueron ratificadas las aplicaciones de las Islas Caimán y Curazao, sus presidentes ganaron escaños en la Junta. La aplicación de Bonaire también fue aceptada condicionalmente, y desde entonces ha sido ratificada.

Se iniciaron las charlas para la acogida de los torneos Juveniles, tanto Masculino como Femenino; Curazao expresó interés en el torneo Femenino, y las Islas Vírgenes Británicas para el evento Masculino. Sin embargo, aún no se han recibido postulaciones.

- ¿Cómo quedó compuesta la Junta Directiva de ECASC?

- Tras la elección de los oficiales, la Junta Directiva de ECASC quedó formada de la siguiente manera:

- Tal como mencionó anteriormente, en los últimos años se disputaron los primeros campeonatos ECASC Masculino y Femenino. ¿Qué evaluación hace de estas competencias?

- Las competencias reflejaron el trabajo de desarrollo necesario en algunos de los países del área. Aruba puso alta la vara en la competición Femenina, como lo muestra su récord perfecto. Su equipo mostró movimientos juveniles con un conocimiento avanzado del juego, incluso cuando hay espacio para el crecimiento. Sus entrenadores, uno de ellos cubano, mostraron nuevamente un conocimiento profundo de cómo se debe jugar a este deporte. En relación a los otros equipos, algunos jugaron fuera de temporada y otros con jugadoras que carecen de condición física, lo que sin dudas ha afectado su juego.

En el campeonato Masculino, el récord perfecto de las Bahamas fue el resultado de una muestra de poder ofensivo, pitcheo, y conocimiento del juego. Impresionante fue el pitcheo moderado de las Islas Caimán que los mantuvo cerca en la mayoría de los juegos, pero mostró la necesidad de desarrollar el lanzamiento de molino.

- What were the highlights of the Assembly of ECASC held in Bahamas in March?

- At the recent Assembly the Board of Directors was re-elected with a few changes to accommodate new members. The applications of the Cayman Islands and Curaçao were ratified and their presidents gained seats on the Board. The application of Bonaire was also accepted conditionally, and has since been ratified.

Discussions ensued on a host country for the Boys and Girls Junior Championships with interest being expressed by Curacao for the Girls Championships, and BVI for the Boys event. No bids however have been received.

- How is composed the Board of ECASC after that meeting?

- Following the election of officers the Board of Directors for ECASC was made-up as follows:

- As you mentioned before, in recent years the first ECASC Men and Women championships were played. What is your evaluation of these competitions?

- The competitions reflected the work needed in the area of development for some of the countries. Aruba was the class of the women’s competition as shown in their perfect record. Their team showcased a youth movement with an advanced knowledge of the game even if there is room for growth. Their coaches, one a Cuban Coach again displayed a keen knowledge of how

atlética.

- ¿Cómo analiza la integración de ECASC con el resto del continente?

Como dijimos más arriba, algún aspecto de esto vendrá tras las conversaciones con otros organismos regionales sobre cómo el Softbol en el Caribe Inglés se puede acomodar de la mejor manera en los campeonatos regionales y mundiales. Elevar el nivel de competencia y de habilidades de los jugadores jóvenes los acercará a los colegios y universidades de Estados Unidos, para darles una educación a través del Softbol. Su regreso a sus países también mejorará los programas allí, a través de las experiencias de formación y aprendizaje obtenidos por los jugadores en los colegios o universidades.

Crecer de modo tal que la competencia en la región inglesa alcance un nivel superior, también ayudará a proporcionar a las Américas un Softbol de mayor calidad.

In the men’s championship, the Bahamas’ perfect record resulted from a display of power, pitching, and game awareness. Impressive was the moderate pitching of the Cayman Islands which kept them in most games, but showed a need to develop windmill pitching. Both championships provided exciting play and athletic prowess.

- How do you analyze ECASC integration with the rest of the continent?

- Again, some aspect of this will come following discussions with other regional bodies on how best play in the English Caribbean can be accommodated in regional and world championships. Uplifting the level of competition and the skills of young players will hopefully exposed them to US colleges and universities and afford them an education through softball. Their return to their country will also enhance the programmes of those countries through the training and learning experiences gained by players while in college or university.

Growing to the point where the competition in the English region reaches a higher level will also help to provide the Americas with more quality softball.

El futuro del Softbol Femenino se hará

realidad en Oklahoma City, cuando el ASA Hall of Fame Complex sea sede del XI Campeonato Mundial Femenino Juvenil WBSC, entre el 9 y el 15 de agosto próximo, con la participación de 18 equipos de todo el mundo. El torneo estará teñido con los colores de las Américas, ya que la mitad de los países participantes provienen de nuestro continente.

Argentina, Brasil, Canadá, Colombia, Ecuador, Estados Unidos, México, Puerto Rico y Venezuela serán los equipos americanos que disputarán este Campeonato Mundial, el primero en la era de los Mundiales abiertos.

El torneo contará con cuatro grupos, dos de cinco equipos y los restantes de cuatro. En el Grupo A jugarán China, Ecuador, Gran Bretaña, Japón y Nigeria; el Grupo B tendrá una impronta americana, ya que lo disputarán

Brasil, Colombia, Estados Unidos, Italia y México. En el Grupo C se enfrentarán Argentina, Australia, Puerto Rico y República Checa; mientras que el Grupo D lo integran Canadá, China Taipei, Nueva Zelanda y Venezuela.

Este evento marcará el debut histórico de Ecuador en un Campeonato Mundial de Softbol (el otro debutante será Nigeria), mientras que Colombia participará de un Mundial Femenino Juvenil por

primera vez. Además, Oklahoma City recibirá países de todas las latitudes del planeta, un hecho que demuestra la globalidad que ha adquirido nuestro querido deporte.

Durante los primeros dos días de competencias se disputará la fase de grupos del torneo, con los primero dos equipos de cada zona avanzando al round robin por el campeonato (dos zonas), mientras que los restantes equipos pasarán a jugar las rondas colocación.

La segunda fase de la competencia se disputará durante los días 3 y 4, cuando queden definidas las posiciones del playoff, que se disputará bajo el sistema doble page. Lo mismo ocurrirá con las zonas de colocación, aunque en este caso el playoff será por simple eliminación. Ambos playoffs serán disputados durante los días 5 y 6.

Finalmente, el 15 de agosto se disputarán los partidos por la medalla de bronce y la medalla de oro, buscando consagrar al campeón mundial de la categoría.

La Secretaria General de la WBSC, Beng Choo Low, dijo:

“El Campeonato Mundial Femenino Juvenil será un excelente plataforma para mostrar al mundo la universalidad de nuestro deporte, el atractivo que tiene para la juventud y el compromiso con la igualdad de género, particularmente en estos tiempos cuando está latente la posibilidad de que el Béisbol/Softbol regrese a los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020”.

The future of Women’s Softball will

come true in Oklahoma City, when the ASA Hall of Fame Complex host the XI WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship, from August 9 to 15, with the participation of 18 teams from around the world. The tournament will be tinged with the colors of the Americas, since half of the participating countries come from our continent.

Argentina, Brazil, Canada,

Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States and Venezuela will be the American teams that will compete in this World Championship, the first in the open era of this tournament.

The tournament will feature four pools, two of them with five teams and the remaining two with four countries. In Pool A will play China, Ecuador, Great Britain, Japan and Nigeria; Pool B will have an American

imprint, since it will be played by Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Mexico the host United States. In Pool C will be Argentina, Australia, Czech Republic and Puerto Rico; while Pool D is made up by Canada, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand and Venezuela.

This event will mark the historic debut of Ecuador in a Softball World Championship (the other newcomer will be Nigeria),

while Colombia will participate in a Junior Women’s World Championship for the first time. In addition, Oklahoma City will receive countries from all latitudes of the planet, a fact that demonstrates the global reach of our beloved sport.

Day 1 and 2 will feature round robin action of each pool. Nations will be battling to finish among the top two in their respective groups to advance into the championship round robin (2 pools) with the remaining teams advancing to the placement robin round (2 pools).

Day 3 and 4 will see a round robin of both the championship pools and the placement pools.

Day 5 and 6 will see the championship section continue through the double page playoff with the placement section continuing through a single elimination format.

Finally, on August 15 will be played the the bronze and gold medal games, seeking the 2015 world champion of the category.

The ASA Hall of Fame Complex is widely regarded as the finest softball facility in the United States. With four fields and other world class amenities, the Complex has played host to the best softball competition in the world.

Since its construction in 1987, the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium has grown from one field to four and has undergone several renovations to keep its title as the “Softball Capital of the World”. The Stadium Field boasts 5,000 seats, plus standing room, while three additional fields have covered concrete stadium seating. The upper concourse connecting the additional fields also features concession stands and bathrooms. Fans and teams will also get a chance to visit the National Softball Hall of Fame, which is located Southeast of the Complex at the ASA/USA National Office.

Japan and the United States have dominated the worlds in this category, with five titles for the Asian girls (Edmonton 1981, Adelaide 1991, Taipei 1999, Nanjing 2003 and Brampton 2013), and four for the US (Oklahoma City 1987, Normal 1995, Enschede 2007, and Cape Town 2011). Only China could break the two giant’s hegemony, with his title in Fargo 1984. Japan is the last world champion, following their victory over the United States by 4-0 in Brampton 2013.

Comenzó a principios de mayo la tercera edición de la Liga Venezolana de Softbol Masculino 2015, con

un total de nueve equipos participantes. Los equipos se encuentran divididos en dos divisiones, Oriental y Occidental, y se jugará un total de 109 partidos en la fase regular.

Esta competencia se ha convertido en la más importante para los subcampeones mundiales a nivel nacional, ya que reúne a los mejores peloteros del país y del continente.

En la División Oriental participan Socios de Vargas, Caciques de Bolívar, Lanceros de Vargas, Capitalinos de Caracas y Tiuna de Miranda; mientras que en la División Occidental lo hacen Sureños Soy de Zulia, Industriales de Carabobo, Patriotas Soy de Aragua, y Águilas de Miranda.

“El año pasado en muchos encuentros la afición asistió masivamente, ya que este es un deporte de familia donde mucha gente va a los campos deportivos a presenciar un alto nivel competitivo”, afirmó Juan Meléndez, Presidente de la Liga Venezolana de Softbol.

Esta tercera edición la se jugará en homenaje a Luis Renault de la Selección Nacional de Softbol fallecido recientemente y quien fue un destacado ex jugador.

Finalmente, a partir de este año el Ministerio del Poder Popular para el Deporte implementará el programa “Juego Limpio”, para el control del dopaje en la Liga Venezolana de Softbol.

En la temporada 2014 Sureños llegó a la final con récord de 23 victorias y tres derrotas; mientras que el actual Subcampeón, Socios, dejó un registro de 22 ganados y cuatro perdidos en las rondas previas a la final.

En la final el equipo zuliano derrotó en cuatro partidos seguidos a los de Vargas, para quedarse con el título de la Liga Venezolana de Softbol.

The third edition of the Venezuelan Men’s Softball League began in early May, with nine teams

participating. The teams are divided into two divisions, Oriental and Occidental. A total of 109 matches will be played during the regular season.

This competition has become the most important at the national level for the World Championship runner-up, bringing together the best players in the country and the continent.

In the Oriental Division will participate Socios de Vargas, Caciques de Bolívar, Lanceros de Vargas, Capitalinos de Caracas and Tiuna de Miranda; while in the Occidental Division will play Sureños Soy de

“Last year, in many games, the crowd attended massively to the diamonds, since this is a family sport where many people go to the ball park to witness a high competition level,” said Juan Melendez, President of the Venezuelan Softball League.

This third edition will be played in honor of Louis Renault, Venezuela Softball National Team player, who recently passed away and was a prominent former player.

Finally, from this year the Ministry of Popular Power for Sport will implement the program “Fair Play” for doping control in the Venezuelan Softball League.

In 2014 Sureño Soy reached the final with a record of 23 wins and three losses; while the current runner up, Socios, did it with a record of 22 wins and four losses in the regular season.

In the final Sureño Soy swept his rivals in four straight games to take the title of the Venezuelan Softball League.

Luego de la reunión general anual en Bahamas, fue elegido un nuevo Comité Ejecutivo para dirigir a la

entidad madre del Softbol de este país.

La Federación de Softbol de Bahamas desarrolló el pasado 16 de mayo, en la Sala de Conferencias del Ministerio de Juventud, Deporte y Cultura de Nassau, la Reunión Anual General del organismo y las elecciones.

El Presidente saliente Burket Dorsett no buscó la reelección y en su lugar decidió concentrarse en su nuevo rol de Presidente de la Confederación de Softbol Amateur del Caribe Inglés, la ECASC por sus siglas en inglés (ver entrevista en página X).

Los nuevos Ejecutivos elegidos durante la reunión, que servirán durante el periodo 2015-2018, son los siguientes:

De este modo, Jennifer Isaacs Dotson hizo historia en la Federación de Softbol de Bahamas, siendo la primera mujer en ser electa 1° Vicepresidente del organismo.

After the conclusion of their Annual General Meeting in Bahamas, a new executive board was

elected.

On May 16 the Bahamas Softball Federation held its Annual General Meeting and elections at the Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture Conference Room, in Nassau.

Outgoing president, Burket Dorsett, did not seek re-election instead choosing to concentrate on his role as President of the English Caribean Amateur Softball Confederation, the ECASC (see interview on page X).

Canadian Open Fastpitch International

ChampionshipThe 2015 Canadian Open Fastpitch I n t e r n a t i o n a l Championship will be held from July 3 - 13, 2015, in Surrey, British Columbia and will showcase the top female athletes in the world. The event will feature the world’s top National

Teams as they continue in their development for International competition.

Nine teams will compete in the International Division, including world champion Japan, and four of the six teams playing in the Pan Am Games in Toronto: Canada, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba. Along with these teams will be Mexico, Spain – Basque Country, NJCAA All Stars and Rivercity Hornets.

After the round robin, all the teams will play in the championship round, with the first four teams taking a double life, while the last five will face a single elimination bracket through the final game.

Each of the 47 games of the tournament will be played in Softball City, host of the XV WBSC Senior Women’s World Championship in 2016.

Besides the International Tournament, there will be another two Junior competitions and clinics. The Futures tournaments (Under 19) and Showcase tournaments (Under 16) will promote the development of the sport of Softball by helping young female athletes reach for their personal best.

In the other hand, the Youth Clinic will take part from July 7 to 10, with National Teams from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada and Japan working with the boys and girls from 8 to 16 years old. These clinics provide young athletes with the opportunity to learn skills and strategies from some of the best in the game and to hear stories of what it took for world class athletes to reach their goals. Finally, the Learn to Play Clinic (girls and boys aged 5 to 10) will be on July 4.

El Canadian Open I n t e r n a t i o n a l Championship 2015 se disputará del 3 al 13 de julio próximo en Surrey, British Columbia, y tendrá en el diamante a las mejores atletas femeninas del mundo. El veneto mostrará a los mejores equipos del planeta mientras continuan en su desarrollo para las futuras competencias internacionales.

Nueve equipos competirán en la División Internacional, incluyendo al campeón mundial, Japón, y a cuatro de los seis equipos participantes en los Juegos Panamericanos de Toronto: Canadá, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana y Cuba. Junto con estos equipos jugarán México, España - País Vasco, NJCAA All Stars y Rivercity Hornets.

Luego del round robin, todos los equipos jugarán la ronda de campeonato; los primeros cuatro clasificados tendrán doble vida, mientras que los últimos cinco enfrentarán la eliminación del torneo en cada partido.

Cada uno de los 47 partidos serán disputados en Softball City, que también será escenario del XV WBSC Campeonato Mundial Femenino Mayor en 2016.

Además de la División Internacional, habrá dos torneos Juveniles y clínicas. El torneo Futures (sub 19) y el torneo Showcase (sub 16) promoverán el desarrollo del Softbol ayudando a las jóvenes atletas a alcanzar su máximo potencial.

Por otro lado, la Youth Clinic tendrá lugar del 7 al 10 de julio. Los Equipos Nacionales de México, Puerto Rico, Canadá y Japón trabajarán con los chicos y chicas de 8 a 16 años. Estas clínicas le darán la oportunidad a los jóvenes de aprender técnicas y estrategias de algunas de las mejores jugadoras del mundo, además de escuchar las historias de cuánto les costó a las mejores atletas alcanzar sus objetivos. Finalmente, la Learn to Play Clinic (para chicas y chicos entre 5 y 10 años) será el 4 de julio.

World Cup XEn lo que será un record, ocho equipos participarán de la World Cup X, disputando 32 partidos en Irvine, California, entre el 29 de junio y el 5 de julio. Organizado por Southern California ASA, Argentina, Canadá, Japón, México, Puerto Rico, Venezuela y las Selecciones Mayor y Juvenil de Estados Unidos jugarán en Bill Barber Park, Deanna Manning Stadium.

Un evento sancionado por la Confederción Mundial de Béisbol y Softbol (WBSC), Estados Unidos buscará defender el título obtenido en 2014, superando en la final a Canadá por 5-2 para mantener su invicto en la competencia.

Estados Unidos ha estado dominante en este evento, jugando las nueve finales disputadas en años anteriores, y ganando el torneo siete veces. Solo Japón pudo destronar al equipo local, ganando dos de las seis finales que ha jugado, en 2005 (la primera edición del torneo) y 2013. Australia (dos veces) y Canadá (una vez) han conseguido la medalla de plata en los restantes años.

A record eight teams are set to take the field in Irvine, Calif., June 29 – July 5, as they complete a 32-game schedule of the World Cup of Softball X. Hosted by Southern California ASA, Argentina, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and both the USA Softball Junior Women’s and Women’s National Teams are scheduled to participate at Bill Barber Park, Deanna Manning Stadium.

A sanctioned event by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Softball Division, Team USA looks to defend its World Cup title as they defeated Canada 5-2 in the

championship game in 2014 to remain undefeated in the tournament.

United States has been dominant in this event, playing every final in the first nine editions, and winning the tournament seven times. Only Japan could dethrone the local team, winning two of the six final games played, in 2005 (the first edition of the competition) and in 2013. Australia (two times) and Canada (once) has claimed the silver medal in the remaining years.

Se disputó en la ciudad de Santa Rosa la primera edición de la Copa Argentina de Softbol Femenino, con la

participación de siete equipos. Este evento, la nueva competencia de clubes de la Confederación Argentina de Softbol, está reservada para los equipos campeones y subcampeones de cada Asociación del país. Luego de un fin de semana a puro Softbol, Pilar de Buenos Aires se quedó con el título, al vencer en la final a CPEF N°5 por 8-5.

Participaron de la competencia All Boys (La Pampa), Berazategui (Buenos Aires), CPEF N°5 (Paraná), Indios (Bahía Blanca), Liniers(Bahía Blanca), Pilar (Buenos Aires) y Sarmiento (La Pampa).

Pilar aprovechó sistemáticamente los errores defensivos

de CPEF en el partido final para quedarse con el trofeo. La tónica del partido la marcó el primer inning, cuando una serie de pifias defensivas le permit ieron al equipo de Buenos Aires anotar las primeras cinco carreras del partido, y a d m i n i s t r a r luego esta d i f e r e n c i a hasta la conclusión del encuentro.

CPEF intentó r e a c c i o n a r , acercándose en el marcador con el correr de los innings, pero la ventaja obtenida en el primer episodio fue demasiado para el equipo paranaense, terminando el juego con marcador 8-5 para las chicas de violeta.

El juego lo ganó Ornela Modarelli, que abrió el partido para el equipo bonaerense y recibió el relevo de Paula Meizoso, quien mantuvo la ventaja para su equipo. La derrotada fue Tamara Togni, que cubrió toda la ruta para el equipo de CPEF.

En los premios individuales, Pamela Clark (Pilar) fue la jugadora más valiosa del certamen, y también fue elegida la mejor bateadora el torneo, con un promedio de .692. Por su parte, la mejor lanzadora fue Togni, quien registró una efectividad de 0.00 ERA a lo largo del round robin.

El torneo contó con la participación de la Asociación Argentina de Árbitros y Anotadores de Softbol y Béisbol (AASB), que gestionaron los arbitrajes, las anotaciones y las estadísticas a lo largo del torneo.

The first edition of the Women’s Argentina Softball Cup was held in the city of Santa Rosa, La Pampa,

with the participation of seven teams. This event, the new clubs competition of Argentina Softball Confederation, is reserved for the champions and runners up in each local Association of the country. After a weekend full of good Softball, Pilar from Buenos Aires claimed the title, beating CPEF No.5 in the final by 8-5.

The tournament counted with the participation of All Boys (La Pampa), Berazategui (Buenos Aires), CPEF No.5 (Parana), Indios (Bahia Blanca), Liniers (Bahia Blanca), Pilar (Buenos Aires) and Sarmiento (La Pampa).

In the final match, Pilar systematically took advantage of

the defensive errors by CPEF to clinch the title. The first inning set the tone of the match, when a series of d e f e n s i v e e r r o r s a l l o w e d the Buenos Aires team to score five runs at the beginning of the match, and then hold onto the lead until the conclusion of the game.

CPEF tried to react, closing the gap over the innings, but the

advantage was too much for the team from Parana, finishing the game with a score of 8-5 for the girls wearing purple.

The winning pitcher was Ornela Modarelli, who started the game for the team from Buenos Aires; and veteran right hander Paula Meizoso held the lead for her team, pitching in relief. In CPEF, Tamara Togni was charged with the loss, pitching the entire game for her team.

In the individual awards, Pamela Clark (Pilar) was the most valuable player and also the best hitter of the tournament, with an average of .692. The best pitcher was Togni, who didn’t allow a single run during the round robin, posting a 0.00 ERA.
