Non fiction- Report We will write a report independently, based on notes gathered from several sources with cross curricular links to our work on Vikings. Instructions and Explanation- Changing technology Poetry- Structure- Riddles. Vocabulary building- read , write and perform free verse. Fiction- ‘Take One Book’- ‘A Christmas Carol’ By Charles Dickens. We will do a book study of this classic Christmas story and watch the film ‘Scrooge’ Handwriting- We will learn the diagonal and horizontal strokes that are needed to join letters. Grammar and Spelling- Revise the term homophone. Investigate, collect and classify spelling patterns related to the formation of plurals. Revise the terms singular and plural. Look at irregular plurals. Research words that have no singular eg, scissors. Continue to learn words from the Y4 NC word list. Reading- I will develop positive attitudes to reading by: Listening to and discussing fiction. Discussing words and phrases that capture my Maths- I can recall multiplication and division facts up to 12x12. I can count in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 11. I can read and write time in both analogue and digital 12 and 24 hour clocks. I can add and subtract numbers with up to 2 digits using the formal written methods of columnar addition and subtraction where appropriate. I can solve problems involving multiplying and adding, including using the distributive law to multiply two-digit numbers by one- digit (e.g. distributive law 39 x 7 = 30 x 7 + 9 x 7 ). I can count forwards and backwards using simple fractions and decimal fractions. I can recognise and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions. I can add and subtract several fractions with the same denominator.(answers less than 1). I can solve comparison, sum and difference problems using information presented in bar charts, pictograms and tables. I can derive facts linked to the multiplication tables that I know (e.g. If I know that 4x6=24, I also know that 24÷6=4 and 240÷6=40) I can work out how to solve problems with one or two steps. RE We will be looking at some of the religious festivals that are happening. I will find out about Diwali and later in the termI will be re-looking at the Christmas story, using artwork as our starting point. Science-I will be looking at forces and magnets. I will be finding out which materials are magnetic and how magnets attract and repel each other, depending on which poles are facing. Art-Make models of Viking weapons Textiles -(continuous project)We will explore how stories have been represented in textiles. We will work together to make a work based on Bayeux tapestry, We will investigate and use a range of materials, techniques and textile processes to create surface patterns, textures and other visual effects. Christmas arts and crafts. Music- History of music- We will be doing a Person Study of Greig and his music (Victorian 1843-1907 Romantic). We will learn Christmas carols and perform in front of an audience. PE- Gymnastics and Netball/ tag rugby Gymnastics- Moving in and out of balances. Invasion games skills -Passing a ball to another player with control. Moving quickly away from defenders,throwing away from History Anglo Saxons and Vikings. We will study the Vikings and Anglo- Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor, Looking at Viking raids and invasions. We aim to understand where the Vikings came from. How some kings in Britain dealt with the Viking invaders. Understand how Vikings lived and worked. What happened during the Viking invasions and know what Viking warriors were like. Identify and describe Viking artefacts. Geography-Why do 8 million people live in London? Growth of a settlement over time, industry, employment, city travel, pros and cons. Comparing maps, graphs and charts. Computing-‘Progression in technology in our lives’. Understand computer networks including the internet and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration. French-We will be learning the days of the week. We will be able to use French greetings and tell someone our name and age.
