Renewable Energy Grants/Incentives

Incentives for Non-Profits – for customer owned renewable energy generating facility, $10,000 to $100,000

Feasibility Study Grants for Business Customers and Non-Profits – to study options for an onsite renewable energy generating facility

Scholarships to Attend Renewable Energy Conferences (Non-profits working in RE or related fields are eligible)Education Programs to Increase Renewable Energy Awareness in Schools and the CommunitySolar Electric and Solar Thermal Seminars/TrainingSolar Thermal Incentive for Non-Profits

Customer Owned Generation Activities

Direct Financial Incentives for Non-Profits

Up to $100,000 to selected customer-owned renewable energy projects.Ownership by a not-for-profit organization, not-for-profit educational/academic institution, or unit of government.Projects need to include a strong and clearly-identified outreach and educational component!

Incentives shall not exceed 50% of total installed project cost less any federal or state government incentive or credit and less any Focus on Energy funding. Example – Installed cost $120,000

FOE incentive $35,000

Project Cost $85,000

We Incentive $42,500 and

Non-profit’s cost = $42,500

50 grant applications received since 2006; 85% accepted.

Financing matching share

Sometimes a stopping point for applicant

Think outside of the boxSell a “solar cell”

Green champion on board or in organization

Special events such a “walk for solar energy”

Targeted fundraising campaign

Consider other financing options

In packet is list of “Community Development Financial Institutions”

May lend for equipment and payment can be made from net metering savings

Other ideas? Pay for renewables from savings achieved through energy efficiency methods (check out EE program table)

Steps to a successful grant application

1. Visit We Energies website and read the information provided:http://www.we-energies.com/business_new/energyeff/wiprog.htm

2. Obtain a site assessment: Focus on Energy will pay 50% of the cost. Follow the link to apply & to

receive a list of certified site assessors. However, to get the 50% off, the customer must go through Focus on Energy. http://www.focusonenergy.com/Renewable/Renewable-Energy-Site-Assessment.aspx or call 800.762.7077.

3. Information from the site assessment will be used in the We Energies grant applications. Go back to the We Energies websiteand fill out the application, with supporting materials:

Steps continued

4. Two quotations or estimates from certified installers will also be needed for the We Energies grant application. Sometimes the installer can do the quote from the site assessment. Focus on Energy has a list of certified installers. www.focusonenergy.com/

5. The remaining grant application deadlines for this year are no later than noon on 9/30 or 12/5. There are also five dates for 2009 listed on our website.
