Westerns Work Study programofers an opportunity orstudents to work part-time

campus in jobs that accommodate thstudies. Te objectives o the WorkStudy program are: to assist studentsin nancial need with a regular sourco income that does not add to theirdebt load, ofer students training

and experience that will assist themin urther studies and their eventualentrance into the workorce, and tohelp staf and aculty. Financial need determined in a manner similar to thCanada and Ontario Student Loansassessment. It involves assessing thecosts o the program the student isregistered in, based on advice rom oustudents, and the resources available tthem.

Theyve made it. Eight months oessays, labs, tests, and exams arebehind your student and you!

Youve probably spent hours on theWestern web site reading policies andprocedures, hoping to help your child. only you, and they, had known abouthe Oce o the Ombudsperson. We

are a sae, condential, impartial andndependent service open to all Westerntudents. We dont advocate or students

or or the university; we advocate orairness. We dont make decisions and ourecommendations are not binding, but

we can help guide students through anacademic or non-academic appeal, advisehem on how to address conicts with annstructor or a coach, and what to do whenhey have missed class or an assignment

because o illness. In short, we are a frsttop when your student doesnt know whereo turn and a last resort, when they thinkhey have exhausted all their options.

Te coming months might introduce newchallenges to your student. A student isadjudicated as soon as their last exams marked; that is, the university checks

marks obtained during the Fall/Wintererm against a programs progressionequirements. During the rst week o

May, the Registrars Oce posts markson a students Student Central accountand clearly marks their status so thetudent will know i they have reached the

    progression requirements or their chosen

program. I a student has not progressed, they may appeal or a Deans Waiver. ADeans Waiver is a saety net provided bythe university or students whose academic

perormance was afected by seriousmedical or other circumstances beyondthe students control circumstances thatcan be documented. Students have untilJune 30 to appeal or a Deans Waiver. Ouroce can advise students on that processand comment on their appeal letter.

Even i a student has progressed, theymay wish to appeal a nal mark due toextenuating circumstances. Once again, they have until June 30 to submit aormal appeal letter to the chair o theirdepartment, or to the chairs designate usually the undergrad chair. Teobjective o the appeal letter is to createreasonable doubt about whether the gradeis correct or the instructors decision airand consistent with normal departmentpractice. Once again, the Oce o theOmbudsperson can explain the appealprocess and provide eedback on the appealletter.

    Although we appreciate how concerned
