The county council has a key role to play as transport authority in planning and enabling growth. This role is increasingly important as the county’s transport networks come under ever greater pressure…

Important to remember where we have come from – this is Carfax in the late 60s/early 70s

And this is High Street today… ….and reduced the number of buses in the city centre. SmartZone = first ticketing scheme of its kind in the UK. One of the cleanest bus fleets in the country – first Euro V LEZ for buses in the UK – started 1 Jan 2014. Bus operators have invested millions. BUT there are still too many buses in parts of the city centre Growth in the city and county means the number of buses in the city centre is expected to reach and even exceed pre-Transform Oxford levels in the next ten years….

2034?

1974 2014

Presenter
Presentation Notes
So what’s the plan? We’ve come a long way. Oxford had the first P&R system in the world. Traffic on routes into city centre has reduced by an average of 24% since 1993 – despite growth in the city and county But fundamentally the strategy now is no different from in 1974 We now have over 5000 P&R spaces. The buses are hybrid electric. But the principle is the same BUT WHERE DO WE WANT TO BE IN 2034…

Beyond 2020

Presenter
Presentation Notes
So that’s what we already know that we will do but how about post 2020 – I have some ideas that I want to share with you but these aren’t final answers just ideas and I want your input into what the transport future of Oxford needs to be…
Presenter

Could we continue the success of Transform and pedestriainise George St???
Presenter
Presentation Notes
New ways of informing people as they travel Better, easier ways to pay for travel (Smart Transactions) – Lobster + contactless payments New ways of travelling – driver-less vehicles Wireless charging of electric buses
Presenter
Presentation Notes
How about mass transit for the city centre - moving more people with less impact Less noise, less pollution, less space, better passenger experience
