2014 Bring a Friend Day!!!
Our annual “Bring a Friend” day is always a day we greatly anticipate! We love
meeting new friends and we know days like today is a great opportunity to share
with others the great excitement we have about the church here at Roebuck Park-
way. We hope everybody can stay for all the activities today. Besides our Bible
study and worship, we’ll be hosting a big meal right after the morning worship and
we want everybody to stay. Our members brought plenty of food to cover for many
visitors. Today our schedule is also adjusted for us to reassemble after lunch for
some singing and an afternoon service. We hope you’ll stay for all the activities
and services!
Belize Rewind
We hope and trust that everyone found the presentation last Sunday morning
about our recent trip to Belmopan, Belize very informative and encouraging. We
appreciate John Gallagher for sharing with us. We hope that this congregation
understands that the Belize work is a team effort of senders and goers! The visible
results from the campaign yielded 6 baptisms and 1 restoration. We hope that some
follow-up work by the local minister and members may bring even more public
responses! We also want to thank our campaign leader, Dale Stripling, for the
great job he did in leading our group. This is a difficult and important job, but
Dale’s leadership provided a very smooth and rewarding week!
Good Job Young Folks!
Last Sunday our young people, who have been working to improve their skills
in the Lads to Leaders program, demonstrated their growth to the congregation
during two presentations. First a group of our young ladies led a group of women
at 4:00 and then at 5:00 our young men led our evening assembly. We appreciate
every young person that participated.

“Passing By” “And she said to her husband, "Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly” (II Kings 4:9). These were the words of a Shunnamite woman to her husband giving her conviction that Elisha was a man of God. She knew that Elisha was no ordinary person and she was right. Elisha was the successor of Elijah. He was from a wealthy family. He had been given a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. He had cursed 42 boys who had called for him to leave them just as Elijah had done, telling him “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” He multiplied the oil supply of a widow. He raised to life the son of the Shunnamite woman. He saved a school of prophets from death. He healed Naaman. He res-cued a young prophet’s ax-head that had been bor-rowed. His timely warnings had saved Israel from de-feats. His house had been surrounded by flaming chariots. A man hastily buried in Elisha’s tomb was revived when his body touched the bones of Elisha. Elisha was continually passing by and this woman was impressed, not by his person but by the fact that he was a man of God. The same was true of Jesus. He was constantly passing by people and the people knew He was no ordinary person. When Jesus passed by, things hap-pened and people were blessed. “Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. 36 And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. 37 So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was pass-ing by” (Luke 18:35-37). Mark tells us that the blind man was Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus. He heard the crowd going by and he asked the meaning of it. He was told, “Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.” Im-mediately Bartimaeus cried out for mercy and he would not be silenced. Jesus stopped and called for him to ask him what he wanted. Bartimaeus’ reply was, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” His request was granted and Bartimaeus had his sight restored. On another occasion Jesus left Judea for Gali-lee. John tells us that “He needed to go through Samaria” (Jn. 4:4). Jesus was just passing through. He had no thoughts of teaching. But when He and His disciples stopped at Jacob’s well. When the woman came out to get water, Jesus engaged her in conversa-tion that led her to understand that He was no ordinary man. Her opinion of Him changed from seeing Him as “a Jew” (4:9), to seeing Him as a man to be respected calling Him “Sir” (4:11), then to seeing Him as a prophet (4:19) and then finally to recognizing Him as the Christ (4:29). This opportunity to teach this woman led to the opportunity to teach the entire village (4:39-42). -to be continued
