  • Connected Sensory Environments

A Multi-Sensory Environment (MSE) is a term used to categorize a variety of therapeutic spaces

specifically designed to provide sensory experiences by engaging the senses (sight, sound, touch,

    taste, smell, movement).

MSE’s are designed to: reduce maladaptive behaviors and increase positive behaviors, promoting

positive mood and affect, facilitating interaction and communication, and promoting a healthier

    relationships, thereby reducing caregiver stress.

The therapeutic design provides sensory stimuli to individuals in a setting that emphasizes engagement

with appealing sensory elements such as fiber-optic and controlled lighting, music or sound effects,

    aromatherapy and tactile manipulatives.
