Regulatory pressure, growing consumer demand and an increasing realization of the value of vehicle data will drive OEMs to ramp up the penetration of connected cars over the next 10 years.

By 2025, SBD forecasts that 68% of new cars sold will have some form of connectivity (built-in or reliant on the driver’s phone). Governments in EU and Russia will play a significant role in this growth by mandating services such as eCall.

But even in markets like USA where no mandates are on the horizon, OEMs are expected to race towards connected cars as a way of reducing warranty costs, remotely updating in-vehicle software and managing recalls.

Vodafone has large volumes from BMW and other OEMs such as Jaguar, Porsche, Mazda and Volkswagen.

The other major players are Orange (through its relationship with Renault for R-Link) and P&T Luxembourg (through its relationship with PSA). T mobile supports Mercedes systems on COMAND and the new Mercedes Me.

Telenor has a small share from Volvo and Nissan/ Renault EV’s.
