April 2017
From the Pastor's Pen It’s that time of year again, or past time for some things to do in your landscaping and yard work. Now is not the time to cut or trim everything in your yard; it’s past time for some. Trees, for instance, are feeding and readying themselves for new and vibrant growth. You can destroy a tree if you cut at the wrong time during that process. Planting time also has passed for certain things. But for other things, it is time to spruce up the place; it’s Spring. It is exhilarating to go to the nursery and see all the new plants from which to choose! I love Green’s on Arkansas, Calloways of course and Weston Gardens on Anglin Dr. in Fort Worth. It is easy to look at the needs in your yard and be overwhelmed. You might even give up before you start. For me, I love to spend all the time I can in the yard using my imagination, as always, and playing with the dog as well. Anyway, as you work, you create a large pile of limbs, leaves, and early Spring weeds. Now the question confronts you as to what to do with the throwaways. In Arlington, cut your limbs in four foot lengths and tie them in bundles and the city will remove them on trash day. InProverbs25:4thesebitsofwisdomrelatetous:“Takeawaythedrossfromthesilver,andthereshallcomeforthavesselforthefiner.” The importance of these words is found in the Superscription of verse 1. There is an intentional statement to point out the following words were carried everywhere by the closest associates of the King and likely memorized lest they grow careless and that which prevents purity and beauty is gradually consumed or eroded by the wear of time or season.
