When employers interview job candidates, they all look for the same things. This is true whether the employer is a bank, high-tech company, university, hospital, publishing house, car dealership, accounting fi rm - or even the local pet store!

Employers want:

• Someone who can set goals and meet deadlines. Blowing a deadline can mean blowing a deal!

• Someone who works well with others. Who wants to deal with strife and complaining in the workplace? Not the boss!

• Someone who understands customers. It doesn’t matter whether the “customers” are hospital patients, TV viewers, or other companies—every business has to know its customers and what they want.

• Someone who can infl uence others. This doesn’t just mean selling a product. Employers want people who can sell ideas, pitch projects, make deals, and convince other employees to help out.

• Someone who is honest, trustworthy and reliable. Kind of goes without saying—or it should!

The shortbread box is a specially designed 100th Anniversary box. what a better cookie to highlight than the one that started it all!

Cookie Trivia:• In the 1920s and 30s, Girl Scouts in different parts of the country baked their own simple sugar cookies and sold

them to raise money for their activities.• The fi rst documented council-wide sale of commercially baked cookies took place in Philadelphia in 1934. The

fi rst national Girl Scout Cookie sale was held in 1936.• Over the years, cookie varieties have come and gone in response to changing consumer tastes. However, the

only modifi cation to Shortbread has been a “facelift” in 1979 when the cookie’s traditional Girl Scout service mark was replaced by a more contemporary service mark.

• Since the 1930s, a number of companies have baked Girl Scout Cookies. Today there are two Girl Scout Cookie suppliers. ABC has been an offi cially licensed Girl Scout Cookie baker for over 70 years.

• Top sellers in order are: Thin Mints, Caramel deLites®, and Peanut Butter Patties.• All of ABC’s Girl Scout Cookie varieties are cholesterol free.• For every box of Girl Scout Cookies you buy, more than two-thirds of your purchase prices stays right in your

community.• By eliminating the carton on Thanks-A-Lot cookies, Girl Scouts® of the USA and ABC Bakers are taking over 150

tons of paperboard out of the waste stream. Saves enough paperboard to fi ll 14 garbage trucks. Yields energy savings equivalent to 30,000 gallons of gasoline.

• People who may be following diabetic diets can enjoy ABC’s Girl Scout Cookies by using dietary exchange rates on our Nutrition Facts page and listed on our order card.

• All of ABC’s Girl Scout Cookie varieties have a trans fat value of zero grams per serving.• Our Thanks-A-Lot™ Girl Scout Cookies speak fi ve different languages!• Our cookies are made with pure vegetable shortening and all eight varieties are kosher. Kosher certifi cation is

provided by the Orthodox Union Rabbinical supervision. Each package is marked with the circle UD emblem.• When eaten in moderation as part of a healthy balanced diet, ABC Girl Scout Cookies are satisfying treats that

are good for consumers and good for Girl Scouts!• ABC does not use any artifi cial preservatives in our Girl Scout Cookies.

Elaine Kushkowski The mission of Girl Scouts is this: “To build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.” Last summer I spent three weeks at Camp Tanglefoot as a Counselor-in-Training, and this experience was an incredible way to end my summer with new, lifelong friends, and use all I have learned in my nine years

as a Girl Scout. Being involved in Girl Scouts has inspired me to make the best of all situations, be a leader, try new things, have an open mind, and know the importance of friendship and creativity. At camp, where I someday want to be a counselor, the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness are other integral pieces of Girl Scout character. In the words of Gertrude “Buzz” Fick, the first camp director at Tanglefoot, “I surround myself with excellent people.” For me, these excellent people are all of the girls and women I have met and been inspired by through Girl Scouts.

Ally Jo Lloyd My troop visited Washington D.C. for a week and one of our leaders told us that whenever we saw a soldier in uniform, we had to go up and shake his or her hand, and say, “Thanks for serving our country.” As a student in Middle School, it was really hard to work up the confidence to walk up and say thanks to a complete stranger, especially when no one else would do the same. When I did work up the confidence to complete our task, the soldiers looked at us in almost complete shock, which made our job harder because I thought I was

doing something wrong. One of the soldiers started talking with us. He told us about his family and friends and generally entertained us while we were waiting for our plane. He had been shocked that young people like us had said, “Thank you,” to a soldier. He told us that most adults don’t have that kind of confidence or courage. Before he got on the plane he told me this, “I fight for my country even when they don’t want me to fight and meeting you girls has given me hope that I’m not fighting in vain, but I’m fighting for girls like you. Thank you. And keep doing what you are doing.” His words have stuck with me throughout my life and to this day I still go up to every soldier and say, “Thank you.” Girl Scouts gave me the confidence to do what I think is right even if no one else does it.
