RABBI’S MESSAGE
Sharing our News
Dear Shaaray Tefila,
I want to share my good news that I have been asked to be the rabbi at Temple Beth
El in Birmingham, Alabama. I am excited. Bethany is excited, and so is Anav. We will also miss being with you. We feel humbled
by the trust that they are putting in us. And excited to take on the task of working
with this community. Though we are overwhelmed right now by the quantity of tasks we need to do to get from here to
there, I just want to take this opportunity to share with you my heartfelt thanks.
Shaaray Tefila has been a wonderful congregation for me to work and grow as a
Rabbi. It has been a wonderful place to visit again and again in order to pray, to summer with the whole family, and from
which to explore the North Country.
I have found good friends here who I will miss dearly. And I have found capable mentors. You trusted me, and followed me
as I tried my hand at leadership for the first time. Thank you for what you have given me.
You gave me the chance to run classes
and programs that I had dreamed of, but never been able to try out. Thank you for trusting me. I leave with a greater
measure of confidence because of the experience that you have allowed me to
cultivate with you.
Glens Falls is a wonderful place to live. And I believe that Shaaray Tefila can be a
center for Jewish life in the North Country. You have dedicated and talented leaders. And you are beautiful, 100+ year
old community who take care of each other. May you build on these strengths,
and continue charting your path toward being a vibrant, spiritual center of Jewish life.
Yours, Stephen
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Congratulations to Stephen Slater on being selected as the next Rabbi for
Temple Beth El in Birmingham, Alabama. We are so proud that he was selected straight from Rabbinic School to become
the new spiritual leader of this large and important congregation. We hope we have played some role in helping him develop
his rabbinic skills and are thankful for his dynamic involvement in our Congregation
for the past 3 years. We look forward to the opportunity over the next 2 months to spend time praying, singing and learning
with Stephen before he has to leave us.
I hope you will have the opportunity to meet Student Rabbi Gerry Ginsburg, who will be spending Shabbat with us March
23rd and 24th. As you know, he is being considered for the position of Student Rabbi with us beginning sometime this
summer.

Passover will arrive the following weekend. Our communal Passover Seder on March
30th at 6PM is filling quickly. Please call the office ASAP to let us know you are
coming. Great food, great conversation - doing Jewish things together. That's what we are all about.
Mazel Tov in advance to Aliya Cohen, who will celebrate her bat mitzvah Saturday,
April 14th. Our joint Holocaust Memorial Commemoration with Temple Beth El will be held at Shaaray Tefila Sunday April
15th at 2:30 PM with guest speaker Dr. Michael Lozman, who has much knowledge to share with us of past and
