Rodfei Sholom Group helps with stress and anxiety

Even today, the stigma of mental problems is keeping many individuals from seeking help.

They are frightened, ashamed, and embarrassed and trying to deal with their problems on

their own. In order to provide information, education, and support, a group has been started

that is open to the community.

Manijeh Nathan, group facilitator, has 30 years of experience as a behavioral therapist, special-

izing in panic attacks and phobias. She has learned that “many individuals with anxiety, depres-

sion and other issues see themselves as weak and blame themselves for their condition. Studies

have shown that anxiety, depression and other illnesses have a genetic component, and like

physical diseases, they can respond to medication therapy.”

Having a support group that allows the person to share his or her feelings in a non-judgmental,

secure setting, can be incredibly helpful. It is important for a person to discover that others have

similar issues and that they are not alone.
