MAZEL TOV
Mazel Tov to Naomi and Howard Berg on the birth of a grandson, born to Gabrielle and Noah Lindenfeld. Mazel Tov to the entire Berg and Lindenfeld families.
CONDOLENCES
We extend our condolences on the passing of Akiva Weinberger, beloved father of Tova Chamama.
Tova is sitting shiva in Montreal and can be reached at 514-739-0777 or 929-271-2807.
The three Haftoras which are read
during the Three Weeks are
called ג ר נ ת—the three
punishments.
The Ateres Moshe explains that
this name is used because the
word נ ת can also mean to
pay back, as in the word ל נ ת.
Rav Yakov Emden zt”l explained
that the tragedies and difficulties
of galus have come upon us as a
people because we have not
properly mourned the destruction
of the Beis Hamikdash.
According to this explanation, the
reading of these Haftoras is
payment for our failure to live up
to the responsibility that we are
charged with when it comes to
mourning Yerushalayim. To
effectively mourn means to
authentically internalize the
distance between ourselves and
Hashem, as represented by the
lack of the Beis Hamikdash in
our time.
May we merit to see the Beis
Hamikdash in our time through
the sincerity of our mourning on
this Tisha b’Av.
“The Rav in Thought and Deed” takes place in the Main Shul 5 minutes after the 9:15 AM minyan concludes. We use the Koren/Rabbi Soloveitchik edition siddur to gain insight into the specifics of our regular prayers based on the insights of Rabbi Soloveitchik. The session lasts approximately 5-7 minutes.

On Tisha B’Av morning at
the 8:30am Shacharit, Rabbi
Zwickler will be leading explanatory
kinot. I encourage everyone to
attend this very meaningful
davening as it will give us a better
understanding of what the kinot are
about and will add to the feeling of
the day. In addition, since everyone
attending this minyan is in no rush
to conclude, we will take extra time
for davening. Lastly, the shul has
some small chairs but not enough
for everyone. You may want to
bring your own stepstool.
HAKARAT HATOV
“Ann and I would like to thank everybody who wished us well on our Aliya. The farewell was very much appreciated by us both from those who sponsored and those who just attended. Everything is going extremely well. We were greeted at the plane and finished our paperwork within two hours. When they heard that I was an Oleh Chadash in shul on Shabbos, I was given an Aliyah and they threw candy. During the first week we had passion fruit sherbet and pareve lotus ice cream. I'm not sure if we are in paradise or Israel. Our address is Baal Hashi'iltot 13 Jerusalem. Our Israeli phone numbers are (Ann) 058-687-4788 and (Harold) 058-687-4789. If you want to call us from the States, the numbers are (Ann) 914-339-2578 and
(Harold) 914-339-2577.” —Ann and Harold Dershowitz
We mourn the loss of Yosef Salomon, 70, his daughter Chaya Salomon, 46, and his son Elad Salomon,
36, who were stabbed to death in a terrorist attack in Halamish last Friday night. Hashem yikom damam.
Update on the Beit Midrash renovation
Work continues on the Beit Midrash. We have moved the daily minyanim (including Sundays) down to the main shul for the remainder of the summer or until the work is completed. The custodians have set up tables outside the haichal to make it easier for men to put on tefillin. As previously indicated, Tisha B'Av davening will be upstairs in the Beit Midrash as planned. Demolition is scheduled to proceed on Thursday and Friday, August 3rd and 4th. The existing ceiling, lighting, and accordion door will be removed. The carpet will be ripped up. The book cases will be covered with plas-tic. Please remove all tallis and tefillin bags as well as any other personal
items before August 3rd.
I apologize for any inconvenience or disturbance caused by the work being done. If you have any questions, please let me know. I can be reached via
email at [email protected].

All through August during Shalosh Seudot, Rabbi Sharbat will be deliver-ing a series of talks entitled “Prophecies of Comfort and Redemption: Under-
standing the Messages of the Haftara.” All are welcome.

afraid to ask.”

Seudot about “The Power and Responsibility of our Tefillah.”
