tain Region #19 currently has 972 members, making it 7th in total membership within Sweet Ade-lines International, Inc. Southern
1,300 members. Satellite Area Re-gion #30 has the smallest amount with 88 members.
Region #45 has 315 members. This region is made up of Members at Large (MAL). These members are members of Sweet Adelines In-ternational but do not belong to a region or a chapter.
Region #19 has 26 choruses ranking in membership from Har-mony on the Bay with 16 members to Pride of Baltimore with 139
members. There are 47 Chapter-at-Large (CAL) members. These members belong to International, as well as Region #19, but do not belong to a particular chapter.
Region #19 has 186 dual mem-bers. A dual member can be a member of two or more choruses. Some of our duals are members of choruses in Region #19 as well as a dual member of a chorus in an-other region. All but three of our chapters (Red Rose City, Ringing Hills and Shenandoah Valley) have dual members.
Ten of our choruses have a Management Team. The other 16 have a Board of Directors. Eleven of our choruses rehearse on Mon-day evenings and nine rehearse on
nights four choruses rehearse, and only two rehearse on Thursdays.
Freedom, rehearses on Sundays, and has a Music Team, but are not led by a director.
Region #19 is governed by the Regional Management Team (RMT). Currently there are seven members on the team. Four of the RMT members are CAL. The re-maining members belong to Har-bor City Music Company, Red Rose City and Valley Forge. There are currently two RMT Shadows, one is a member Pride of Baltimore, while the other is CAL. As you can see, you can belong to a small, mid-sized, large or no chorus and be in-volved in regional governance.
*The information for these membership facts come from International’s website as of August 11, 2016

WHY SHADOW?by Jennifer Newman, RMT Shadow
It all started for me in 2001. I was living in Columbus, Ohio ,hav-ing transplanted to the area after touring with a singing group. I had few friends, a job that (mostly) paid the bills, and not much to look forward to on weekends. One day while perusing the Columbus Dis-patch I saw an ad for a group look-ing for “energetic women who love to sing” – that ad changed my life as it brought me to a Scioto Valley Chorus rehearsal and introduced me to Sweet Adelines and barber-shop harmony.
Fifteen years, 5 choruses, and 3 quartets later -- it’s easy to see that I’m hooked on the harmonies and the relationships that SAI has brought me. I love all kinds of mu-sical styles, but my passion rests with the chord ringing style of bar-bershop.
What I love most about SAI, however, is the unique opportuni-ties it gives women to shine; not just on stage in our glittery cos-tumes and heavy make-up, but also in more subtle ways. It’s easy to assume that my main gift is mu-sic – after all, I have 2 degrees in voice, but I have also been blessed with a wide array of administrative gifts (including a love of spread-sheets - yes, spreadsheets) that led to my taking on the mantle of Team Leader for the Philadelphia Freedom Chorus for 2 years as well as creating the Women’s Har-mony Brigade. What better way to merge my passion for singing bar-bershop with my skills in organiz-ing and event planning – two skills I would not have developed had it not been for my involvement in SAI.
It’s my de-sire to give back to the or-ganization that has given so much to me that led me to join the RMT Shadow program. Being a Shadow gives me the opportunity to see how the administrative side of our region works, to help where I’m
