Dear Class of 1969:

On behalf of Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz and the Office for Development and Alumni Affairs, we take great pleasure in welcoming you to your 50th anniversary reunion.

This is a wonderful opportunity to observe firsthand the dramatic changes that have taken place at Hofstra University, particularly in recent years. Please take some time to reminisce and connect with classmates and friends – and appreciate how you and every member of the Class of 1969 are links in a very strong chain.

Linda Altman I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in fine arts. After 50 years as an executive in the luxury fashion industry, I retired to enjoy my passion of traveling the world and experiencing different cultures.

Leslie Steven Abrams I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in psychology and continued my Hofstra education to receive an MA in psychology. I have been married to my wife, Ilene Abrams, for 11 years.

Robert Mark Altner I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in psychology. I am the president of an insurance agency in Boca Raton, FL, specializing in employee benefits for 39 years. I have been happily married to my wife, Sandi, for 17 years and am still dreaming of winning the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Marilyn AmesI graduated in 1969 with a BA in psychology and went on to receive an MSW in clinical social work and received CASAC certification in treatment of substance abuse.

Alma Marie Arnone BarraI graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in elementary education/Italian and went on to receive an MA in liberal studies from Stony Brook University. I have been married to James R. Barra for 47 years.

Dorthe “Toby” Astman Selda I graduated in 1969 with a BA in elementary education and social sciences and went on to receive an MA in reading. I retired from teaching elementary school in West Islip in 2003. I have been a volunteer at Sagamore Hill, Theodore Roosevelt’s home, for more than 20 years. I wrote a children’s book, Simply Sagamore. I have also been a member of the Sweet Adelines chorus and Island Hills Chorus and barbershop quartet, Close Enough, for more than 20 years. I still enjoy tennis and visits with my 13 Canadian grandchildren.

Bobby Asnas I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BBA in accounting.

Stephen Auerbach I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BBA in accounting. I have been married to Joanne Zentis for 39 years.

Jan (Janet) Barkas Yager I graduated from Hofstra in 1969 with a BA in fine arts and went on to receive an MA in criminal justice and a PhD in sociology. I have been married to Fred Yager for 35 years. During my time at Hofstra, in Mrs. Ellen Zamore’s public speaking class, we were asked to give a speech about something we were interested in. Having become a vegetarian, I researched the history of vegetarianism. That speech led to the publication of The Vegetable Passion: A History of the Vegetarian State of Mind. Since then, I have published 49 books in a range of genres, including nonfiction, fiction, illustrated children’s books, poetry, and specialty journals. My list of published books can be found at www.drjanyager.com. I founded my own press, Hannacroix Creek Books Inc., in 1996. I teach college courses in sociology and criminology and consult in my areas of expertise.

Bruno John Bischoff I graduated in 1969 with a BA in history and went on to earn the CPCU designation. I have been married to my spouse, Pat, for 50 years.

Brenda Beach NickelsonI graduated in 1969 with a BS in economics and went on to receive an MS in educational technology. Since my graduation from Hofstra, my life has been exciting in the information technology field. I retired from IBM, traveled for a few years, and then found myself working in technology again. I want to pass on my knowledge to the youth of our country. My special interests include learning about other cultures through travel, discovering my genealogy and meeting my family all over the world, and continuing to learn all things interesting.

John Wesley Bongard Jr. I graduated in 1969 with a BA in biology and went on to receive an MBA in finance from University of Utah. I retired as lieutenant colonel, U.S. Army, in November 1995. My career was primarily in health care operations – health care comptroller and health care senior program analyst – with my last assignment overseeing the Department of Defense (DoD) Health Care Information Technology funding. During my military career, I had assignments at Fort Bragg, Vietnam, Fort Meade, Germany, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fort Detrick, Republic of Panama, and Health Budgets and Programs for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. After retiring from the military, I obtained a DoD government civilian position, working in a U.S. Army Acquisition Program to field the Digital Health Care Record for the Combat Soldier until retiring in April 2012. I now work with my wife of 50 years, Jayne Beverly Bongard, in operating a travel agency, Cruise Holidays of Frederick, in Frederick, Maryland. As part of our business, my wife and I enjoy escorting groups on travel around the world. My hobbies are traveling, model railroading, and golf.

Sallymae Bordieri JacksonI graduated in 1969 with a BA in history and went on to receive an MA in library and information science. I am a retired school librarian for the Deer Park School District, where I served for 22 years. I graduated in February of 1969 in the middle of a blizzard – what a day! I still remember fondly the days of stuffing chicken wire for the spring floats.

John D. Boyd I graduated in 1969 with a BA in anthropology and went on to receive an MBA from Cornell University in 1977. I have been married to my wife, Rita, for 40 years.

Elizabeth Bosco I graduated in 1969 with a BA in English. I am a retired chief compliance officer for Tocqueville Securities L.P.

Noel Carroll I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in philosophy. I went on to receive a PhD in film studies from NYU in 1976 and a PhD in philosophy from University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1983. I have been married to my wife, Sally Banes, for 34 years.

Laurence N. Charney I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BBA. I have been married for 43 years to my spouse, Ronnie. My hobbies include mentoring and advising Outdoors Life World History leaders.

Thomas CoxI graduated in 1969 with a BA in mathematics and went on to receive an MS in applied mathematics and statistics, an MSW in social welfare, a BSN in nursing, an MSN in psych nursing, and a PhD in nursing.

Diane Dee DluzniewskiI graduated in 1969 with a BA in fine arts. Following graduation, I moved to Switzerland for three years. Upon my return, I planted my roots back in NYC, where I am currently residing. I worked primarily with major corporations in the office products and telecommunications arena in a marketing and sales capacity. I have been retired since 2008 and still love to travel!

Stuart A. Ditsky I graduated in 1969 with a BBA in accounting and went on to receive an MBA from St. John’s University. I developed a CPA practice that is now part of Prager Metis CPA LLC. I am partner in charge of new client development and specialize in business management. I am one of the founding members of Elephant Eye Theatrical and produced The Addams Family (musical) on Broadway and An American in Paris (musical) on Broadway.

Paul F. Farinella I graduated in 1969 with a BA in biology. I went on to receive an MS in 1974 and have been married to my wife, Carolyn, for 47 years. I am a 36-year retired high school science teacher as well as a retired LTC, VSAR. I continue to be active in several organizations, serving as president of Hofstra’s Veterans Alumni Chapter, commander of Colonel Theodore Roosevelt MOWW Chapter of NY, and president emeritus of Blackjacks (which is the high school equivalent of the National Society of Pershing Rifles). I have one grandson.

Joel Feldman I graduated in 1969 with a BBA in marketing. After 43 years in the marketing business, I retired from an advertising agency, which I co-founded. I am an avid golfer and traveler. I have been married to my wife, Linda, for 47 years, and we have two daughters. I was one of the first people to dorm at Hofstra; my time there was some of the best times of my life. I now reside in Florida.

Robert Steven Greenwood I graduated from Hofstra University with a BBA in education and went on to receive an MS in guidance from LIU Post in 1971. I was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Valley Stream and Floral Park for seven years. I served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for two years. In 2005, I retired from the New York City Department of Education, where I spent 20 years as a teacher and 17 years as a guidance counselor. I officiated soccer for over 30 years and baseball for over 20 years, as well as softball and girls track. I still referee girls softball and soccer. I have been married to my wife, Laura, for 52 years. We have two children, Melissa and David.

Madeline Grumback-Minkoff I graduated in 1969 with a BA in elementary education and went on to receive an MA. I have been married to my husband, Richard, for 45 years. I retired from teaching in 2004. While attending Hofstra, I served as chief of the Hofstra Chronicle and belonged to GSP sorority (now DPhiE). I still love to read and travel. I also love spending time with my grandchildren. I am currently president of the retired teachers in Bellmore.

Jeanne FerranteI graduated from Hofstra with a BA in natural sciences and went on to receive a PhD in mathematics from MIT. I am currently professor emerita of computer science at the University of California, San Diego. At UC San Diego, I served as Computer Science and Engineering Department chair, associate dean of engineering, and associate vice chancellor for faculty equity. In retirement, I am helping develop curriculum and enjoying learning at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UC San Diego, became a board member of the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, and am working to establish a senior living/learning residence with a focus on intergenerational activities on campus. I have been married to my husband, Larry Carter, for 34 years. Hobbies include playing piano, taking art classes, biking, and hiking. We just returned from a one-month trip to New Zealand, which included walks on the Routeburn, Rakiura, Hollyford, Abel Tasman, and Queen Charlotte tracks.

Richard S. Frazer I graduated in 1969 with a BBA in management and have been married to my wife, Lynda Fox-Frazer, for 39 years. I own my own insurance brokerage firm, Jadestone Financial Resources. I am a wine enthusiast. I am a fan and supporter of the Hofstra Lacrosse team.

Ann Hersh I received two degrees from Hofstra University: a BA in 1969 and an MA in 1970. While completing an MA in speech pathology, Hofstra University awarded me a fellowship through the federal government. I worked in the speech and language field for 38 years with the NYC Department of Education. I was in the Central District and serviced children with complex communication needs. Presently, I am retired and co-hosting a radio broadcast sponsored by the Town of North Hempstead. I attend cultural events and classes at various universities in the area. I swim regularly at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, Eisenhower Park. I enjoy a healthy lifestyle doing exercise and following a balanced food program. I maintain memberships with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association, American Federation of Teachers, New York State United Teachers, and United Federation of Teachers. I am clinically certified in speech-language pathology through ASHA and New York state. I am permanently certified as a teacher of the speech and hearing impaired in New York state and New York City. I have lived in New York (Queens, Long Island, Ithaca), New Jersey, Ohio, and California.

Linda HendricksonI graduated in 1969 with a BA in history and went on to receive an MS in library science from LIU Post, and even returned to Hofstra to take additional graduate courses in school administration. I retired from the Freeport School District in June 2017 after serving 48 years as a social studies teacher and department chairperson. I also coached basketball for 37 years and tennis for 47 years at Freeport High School.

Stanley Jacobs I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA. I have been married to my wife, Pamela, for two years. I am a rotary club member and member of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. I love traveling and helping people with anxiety, pain, and sleeping issues (it’s all about the oil). My motto is to enjoy life now!

Paul H. LandesI graduated in 1969 with a BA in English. I still reside in Franklin Square, NY, although my wife of 41 years, Rachel Landes, and I are spending more time each year in Delray Beach, FL. We have three sons and one grandchild. All are healthy, but not yet wealthy or wise! I have been retired from New York State Supreme Court for almost two decades. I love being retired, probably more than anything else in my life. It seems that I was a Hofstra student just yesterday!

Roslyn Kramer Goldman I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in elementary education/psychology and went on to receive an MS in elementary education. I have been married to Richard Goldman for 49 years. My husband and I retired to Florida one year ago after spending 41 years in the Baltimore, MD, area. We enjoy traveling to visit our children and grandchildren who reside in NY and CA. I love to read, attend lectures, watch foreign films, play canasta and mahjong, go to the beach, and take walks/hikes. I also belong to two local charitable women’s organizations.

Mark H. Levinson I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA and have been married to my wife, Shelly, for 20 years. I am a member of SAL local and ZBT fraternity.

Jo B. LipsonI graduated in 1969 with a BBA and went on to receive an MA in guidance and counseling. I still remember my marketing classes with Dr. Cohen! Retired and enjoying life playing canasta and bridge!

Keith Gregory Logan I graduated in 1969 with a BA in political science and went on to receive a JD and MPS. I have been married to my wife, Patricia, for 45 years. While at Hofstra, I was a member of Upsilon Gamma Alpha (now TKE) fraternity. I joined the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania criminal justice faculty in 2004 and am now a prelaw advisor for the college. I edited/authored several books, including Homeland Security & Intelligence and An Introduction to Homeland Security, as well as numerous professional articles. I am a former federal law enforcement officer, having started my career as a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration. I served with several other federal agencies, including the Agency for International Development, Department of Interior, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I was a special assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Columbia and the Eastern District of Virginia. I am a former U.S. Army Reserve officer, Military Police Corps. I participated in curriculum development and received training at the Department of Homeland Security Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. I am also a consultant specializing in the investigation of whistleblower retaliation and EEO concerns.

Stefan Miller I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in philosophy. I miss the days I spent at Hofstra and the friends I spent them with. However, I have been able to enjoy my life as much as and sometimes more than my college years.

William G. Melone I graduated in 1969 with a BA. My hobbies include playing classical guitar, reading historical biographies, attending opera performances, and collecting fine wines.

Max Marquart and Susan White MarquartWe both graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with BAs in biology. Max went on to receive a DDS from SUNY Buffalo and Susan went on to receive an MA in microbiology from SUNY Buffalo. As a married couple, our hobbies include traveling, spending time with our grandchildren, and gardening.

Linda Nunes Schnepp I graduated in 1969 with a BA in elementary education and went on to receive an MA in education. I am a wife, mother of two, and grandmother to three grandsons. I have been teaching for 50 years. I have been married to my husband, George Schnepp, for 46 years, and we have lived in Bethpage for 44 years. My hobbies include golf, fishing, and gardening, and I enjoy watching my grandsons. My son, Christopher, is also a Hofstra graduate.

Stephen Paluska I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BBA in accounting. I went on to receive an MBA and became a CPA.

Robert C. Minott I graduated in 1969 with a BA and went on to receive an MA from Stony Brook University and an EdD from William Howard Taft University. I have been married to Terri Stoloff Minott for 50 years.

Harold Panzer I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BBA in accounting. I have had my own corporations within the wholesale end of the home furnishings industry (curtains, quilts, tablecloths, etc.). I also worked for many years as a national sales manager. My wife of 46 years, Eileen Panzer, is the office manager for a surgical practice in Princeton, NJ. We are the proud grandparents of three boys and one girl, ages 2, 5, 7, and 9.

Martin R. PressI graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BBA in accounting. I went on to receive a JD in 1973 from Brooklyn Law School as well as an LLM in tax in 1976 from University of Miami. I have been married to fellow Hofstra graduate Gail Silverbush Press ‘70, ‘73 for 48 years. I am an equity shareholder, Gunster Law Firm. I sit on the Nova Southeastern University National Council, am an AIPAC donor, and donated the Martin and Gail Press Health Division Medical Library at Nova Southeastern University.

Richard Romano I graduated in 1969 with a BA in biology and went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry from University of Pennsylvania. I have been married to my wife, Teresa, for 40 years and have three beautiful daughters and one granddaughter. I am not retired, as I am just getting into my stride as a dental specialist. The contact information listed is for my office in Brooklyn, NY.

Rosann Petrella I graduated from Hofstra in 1969 with a BA in Spanish and secondary education. After graduating, I became a secondary school Spanish teacher. I eventually received an MA in Spanish from Michigan State University and then an MS in accounting at University of Arkansas. I had a career as a CPA for over 30 years. Interestingly enough, before retirement, I went back into education, teaching English as a second language. I have been married to Alfredo Gonzalez for 47 years.

William F. Perri I graduated in 1969 with a BBA in accounting. I have been married to my wife, Deborah, for five years and am a member of HFTP.

Richard Pokress I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BBA and have been married to my wife, Suzan, for 23 years. I worked in advertising in NY, LA, and Albuquerque. One of my accounts was the New Mexico Department of Tourism, where I wrote media plans to increase tourism to New Mexico. I also taught marketing and media at the University of Albuquerque.

Ronald R. Roth I graduated from Hofstra in 1969 with a BA in biology and went on to receive an MD. I am a lifetime runner and bodybuilder, bread baker, and father of three wonderful daughters, and myriad step and foster children. I have been blessed with a successful medical practice in Smithtown, NY, since 1978. I’m a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry, 25th Medical Battalion. I’m grateful for the education I received at Hofstra and the inspiring professors I learned with.

Rochelle Rudoff Winderman I graduated in 1969 with a BA in political science. Following graduation from Hofstra, I worked as a benefit authorizer for the Social Security Administration in Rego Park, NY. In 1971, I married Jay B. Winderman, a microwave engineer, and moved to California. I earned an MS in library science at Cal State Fullerton and worked as a reference and children’s librarian at Covina Public Library from 1998 through 2010. I also provided copy editing services for students and faculty members at nearby colleges. Jay and I have two children and two grandchildren.

Diane Lynne Saunders I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in sociology. I have been married to my husband, Bob Rosen, for 38 years.

Harriet Schess Holzman I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BS in education and went on to receive an MS in special education.

Cheryl Beth Rothenberg Chaves I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in elementary education/fine arts. I have been happily married to my husband, Herbert Harry Chaves, for 25 years. I am now retired and living in Manhattan after a 30+ year career as an account executive in advertising, negotiating television time for NBC, Group Westinghouse, CBS, and other major media outlets and networks. My time is spent enjoying world travel, Broadway theater, restaurants, and museums with my husband and our circle of friends. Several of my closest friends are actually my Hofstra sorority sisters!

Steven Leonard Schnell I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA. I have been a practicing ophthalmologist in Jupiter, FL, since 1981 and served as chief of staff at Jupiter Medical Center from 1989 to 1990. I am the ophthalmologist for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team during spring training and the minor league teams during the summer. I have been married to my wife, Lisa, for 18 years, and my hobbies include tennis, travel, and visiting art museums around the world.

Ellen S. Smiley I graduated in 1969 with a BA in speech/drama. After graduating, I began working for BOAC/British Airways, JFK Airport. Thirty-one years there gave me wonderful opportunities to explore the world, which I still do. In 2006, I began working at NEFCU, creating, promoting, and running a financial literacy program and lecturing at Nassau County high schools and colleges. In 2013, I started my own financial literacy consulting business.

George Strothmann I graduated in 1969 with a BSME and am married to my wife, Jean. I am still residing in Big Flats, NY, and retired from Corning Inc. in 1991. I sang with a professional choral group, “Common Time,” for 30 years. Presently, I teach the nearly lost art of chair caning. Having a degree from a prestigious school as Hofstra was rewarding.

Jeanne Marie Shroyer Clidas I graduated in 1969 with a BA in social science and elementary education. I went on to receive an MS in elementary education, a PDAS in counselor education, and a PhD in literacy and learning. My mother, Betty Rhodes Shroyer, graduated from Hofstra in 1940. Hofstra gave me a solid academic foundation on which to build my skills as an educator. I feel blessed to have learned so much from the professors I studied with during my time as an undergraduate. I have taught in my own classroom, supported other teachers as a national literacy specialist, worked with book publishing companies, and taught new teachers as a professor of education. I have always been curious and became involved with STEM early on, using science as a way to engage children in reading and writing. One of my AOB sisters introduced me to my husband, Nickolas Clidas, Hofstra Class of 1970. We have been together for 51 years. After 48 years of working and enjoying the process of helping others learn, I chose to retire. I scrapbook and read, and take advantage of my retirement time. My husband and I hold Hofstra in a very special place in our hearts.

Linda Stumvoll QuinnI graduated in 1969 with a BA in fine arts and went on to receive an MA in educational computing from Columbia University. After a long career in education as an art teacher and coordinator of computer technology programs, I retired in 2003 and now devote my time to fine art photography and photo restoration. My husband of 23 years, Eddie, and I have been RVing since 1994 and now divide our time between our home in East Northport, NY, winters in Florida, and on the road pursuing our passions of bicycling and photography. Hope Tama Valerio I graduated from Hofstra University in 1969 with a BA in psychology and went on to receive an MA in special education. I have been married to my husband, Al, for 35 years. I was and continue to be a special education teacher.

Ronald Travis I graduated in 1969 with a BA and went on to receive a JD from NYU in 1972. My wife, Marquerite Smith, and I are retired attorneys after 40 years of practice. We still consider ourselves advocates for social justice and civil rights for all in America. We remain active in our church and enjoy traveling all over our beautiful country.

Virginia Topper I graduated from Hofstra in 1969 with a BA in sociology. I was a previous owner of the Wine Garden Restaurant in Garden City. I now own a handbag business called Pursnality. I have been married to my husband, Robert, for 34 years and have a daughter named Brittany Aida. We reside in Huntington Bay. I still love traveling.

Allen Zagoren I graduated in 1969 with a BA in biology and went on to receive an MPA and DO. I have been married to Gail Sarcinella Zagoren for 42 years.

David Zoffer I graduated in 1969 with a BA in political science. I received a commission as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, married fellow Spectrum Players member Linda del Zio (BSEd, ’71), graduated from Fordham University School of Law (JD, ’72), worked as an assistant district attorney in the Manhattan DA’s Office, and later served as special assistant attorney general of the state of New York. Subsequently, I held legal positions at several large insurance companies and currently serve as senior vice president and group general counsel of James River Group Holdings, Ltd. (NASDAQ: JRVR), a Bermuda-based insurance holding company that owns and operates a group of specialty insurance and reinsurance companies. An avid photographer, I also enjoy pistol marksmanship competition, opera, ballet, and traveling with Linda.

Robert William Trester I received an AAS in electronics technology from SUNY Farmingdale in 1961. I then went on to receive a BS in physics from Hofstra University in 1969. I have been married to Jean Trester for over 42 years. I am a lifelong mountaineer, hiker, trekker, back-country skier, and environmentalist. I am also a world traveler, having been to 30 countries and six continents. I have studied piano; have taught physical science, math, and electronics; and have been an electronic circuit designer and documentation specialist. I am a proud father of two wonderful, grown children: Sarah - MS in mechanical engineering, and Matt - BS in management and CPA.

Anthony Vandercreek I graduated from Hofstra in 1969 with a BS in art education and went on to receive an MA in photography from LIU Post. I am retired from teaching photography at Eastern Suffolk BOCES. I have been married to my wife, Deborah, for 35 years and had three children. I live in Aquebogue, LI, and love to work with old cars. I was a member and former president of the Hofstra Veterans Alumni Association. I was able to teach for 31 years and had some great teachers in fine arts. Thank you, Hofstra!
