Department of Fine Arts

The Department of Fine Arts, founded in 1948, has the unique distinction of being the only one of its kind in South India. The Department offers a four-year undergraduate programme in Visual Arts, a two-year postgraduate programme and research programmes leading to M. Phil and Ph. D. degrees. The vision of the Department is to empower individuals through art education to be skilled, creative, ethical and socially responsible. Looking Beyond is one of the events planned to celebrate the 70th year of the Department’s establishment. The Seminar will focus on the dynamics between art and design in contemporary practice, showcasing the two as distinct disciplines that offer increasingly fluid and interconnecting fields for creativity. It will highlight interdisciplinary and transitional contexts that underpin the ever-widening space for artistic, creative, intellectual and socially responsible approaches to art and design. The sessions will foreground art, art history, design and craft as pathways to diverse careers and entrepreneurial ventures. Reputed speakers from across India will speak about their work to inspire and inform the student community.
