This �le describes the di�erent LATEX add-ons that LYX can handle. Belowyou'll �nd six sections:

1. Some basic details about your LATEX installation. In particular, you shouldmake sure that your version of LATEX is recent enough.

2. Some common fonts that LYX knows about. This is rather sparse at themoment.

3. The document classes that should be standard on any LATEX implementa-tion. This section is only here for completeness.

If one of these ismarked as missing (the �Found� item is no) and you need its functionality,you can grab it at your nearest CTAN ftp site1 at the location indicatedin the �CTAN� item. Note that only detected document classes can beselected as document layouts in LYX.

5. The packages that have been stamped �required� by the LATEXmaintainers.These ones should de�nitely be present, but you may not have some ofthem if your LATEX distribution is a bit old.

6. Some packages that LYX uses when you try to change the margins of yourdocument. The detection of these items does not yet a�ect the optionsavailable inside LYX.

7. Some common LATEX packages that you might need with LYX, and youmight also want to add to your LATEX installation. The detection of theseitems does not yet a�ect the options available inside LYX.

If avail-able, ultra bold fonts can be accesed through the \hm command (aliased to\heavysymbol). The \bm command is similar to the amsmath \boldsymbolcommand, but the bm version is rather more careful in the way it doesthings. Be aware that this package allocates symbol fonts for bold fontsinto the normal math version, such that, when using other packages thatallocate many symbol fonts, they can be exhausted. In this case, one canmake do with the \boldsymbol command.
