This is a fantastic opportunity to hear the different perspectives within our community and to discuss what we value at Kororoit Creek Primary School. For the remainder of the term the school community will have an opportunity to put in a suggestion of what they think the KCPS motto should be. There will be a ballot box in the foyer at the front office for you to place your suggestion. At the beginning of Term 3, I will read through all of the suggestions and along with School Council, my staff and the student leadership team, will make our decision. At the end of the process we hope to have a strong, unifying phrase that will encapsulate the beliefs and ideals that will guide our school into the future. There are some fantastic designs and I can’t wait to see it all come together as the front of the school refurbishment takes shape over the coming months. Thank-you to everyone for your support!

Payment for the pavers is due by June 8th. If you would like to purchase a paver engraved with your child’s or family design please return payment to the classroom or front office. If you were unable to attend the workshop but would still like to create a design come to the front office for more information. STOP and DROP The Stop and Drop Zone is clearly marked and a banner is displayed in the area. It is monitored by a member of staff between 8:45-9:00am and 3:15-3:30pm.

After School:

The Stop and Drop Zone will be monitored by two staff members after school. One staff member will ask the name of your

child so that it can be relayed to a second staff member who will be monitoring the children waiting to be collected from the

Stop and Drop Zone. If your child cannot be located, you will be asked to leave the Stop and Drop Zone and return by circling

the two roundabouts on Tenterfield Drive. This will allow a smooth flow of traffic and minimum wait time for all parents.

Please be understanding if you are asked to move – the zone is just that – a Stop and Drop Zone. If you wish to park and walk your child to or from school, please use one of the alternative spaces.

There are clear parking restrictions in place which are being monitored by our local Council. Please ensure you adhere to the parking restrictions and DO NOT park in the Stop and Drop Zone which has No Parking signs displayed.

Your co-operation is appreciated

Have a great fortnight! Bethany Saunders Principal

KCPS Parents, We know that supporting our children to think-deeply and be active participants in their learning, is an integral part of schooling. Of late, we have been focusing on the ways we can listen to our student’s voices in having them reflect, participate and own their learning. As a result of this, we are working towards improving your opportunity to discuss your child’s progress by including the most important ingredient.... your child! In the coming weeks you will receive your child’s semester one report and also details as to when you can schedule a time to meet with your child and your child’s teacher as part of a ‘Student-Led Conference’. This will allow your child to: - talk with you about the work they are proud of and want to celebrate! - share their learning journey within different curriculum areas

- talk about their achievements and learning goals

- be an active participant in this conversation, building responsibility in reflecting on their learning within a positive and encouraging environment As a support for our parent community in making this change, we invite you to a Positive Partnership Session about Student Led Conferences and your role as a parent, on Monday 18th June at 9am, with an afternoon session also beginning at 2.30pm. This forum will allow us to share this new approach with you and to answer any questions you may have. We are very excited as to the potential benefits for you as our parent community and for our students! Thank you. Blayne Wallis Assistant Principal

Positive Partnership Sessions We have a number of positive Partnership sessions coming up:

ThinkUKnow: Date TBC After discussions with parents around the use of technology at home and to ensure that we are doing everything we can to ensure your children are safe online I have organised a ThinkUKnow session for our parent community. This session focusses on cyber safety and sensitively covers a range of topics including sexting, cyber bullying, online child exploitation, online privacy, and importantly what to do when something goes wrong. This presentation is designed for parents and carers and will be delivered by trained, accredited, volunteers from law enforcement and aims to provide information that is accurate, relevant and actionable. Once we have a confirmed date I will let the community know via Compass. Your role in Student Led Conferences: This session might answer some questions you might have about Student Led conferences. Such as what my role as a parent in a student led conference? What should I expect?

2019 Enrolments If you have a child starting prep in 2019, enrolment forms are available on our school website or from the office. New students with a sibling currently attending KCPS will be accepted on the sibling policy regardless of current address, please submit your enrolment forms with birth certificate and Medicare immunisation statement as soon as possible. Parent Working Party Throughout the year, the school runs a number of fundraising events which are only possible with help and support of our parent community. We are very fortunate to have ongoing support within our school, but we always welcome more assistance. If you are interested and would be available to assist at events such as Mothers’ or Fathers’ day stalls, Book Fairs, second hand uniform sale, simply contact the office and they will take your details and add you to our ‘Working Party/support list’. You will need to have a valid Working with Children Check. When events are being organised, a member of the fundraising committee may call upon you to see if you can assist.

Green Team News Congratulations to all of the Grade Five

students who took part in our whole school incursion aimed at informing all students

at Kororoit Creek Primary School about the four R’s – Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

The presentations were engaging, informative and motivating, leaving a wonderful impression on teachers and students! The Green Team are excited to announce that co-mingle recycling is up and running at KCPS! Well done to all of the classes who began co-mingle recycling in their classrooms this week. We are so excited to continue to be a part of the solution – not pollution!
