A second special event was held by our current and past presidents Wednesday night in honor of Hal Prink who is starting the next chapter of his life and retiring from his Administrator position for the chapter. Hal has been a devoted member and volunteer to our chapter, he is well known and well loved by all. WHAM! We went beyond for this year’s conference by extending sessions and networking events. The conference started with an Early Careerist pre-conference with tips from healthcare executives and speed dating resume review. SPLAT! Wednesday night’s bowling party sponsored by accesshealthcare was a great success, bowlers of every level laughed, ate and had overall great time!

A second special event was held by our current and past presidents Wednesday night in honor of Hal Prink who is starting the next chapter of his life and retiring from his Administrator position for the chapter. Hal has been a devoted member and volunteer to our chapter, he is well known and well loved by all. Women in Leadership (WIL) lead our first day with an early riser session. Our panel Gina Eastin, Director of Revenue Cycle Services, Yuma District Hospital, Michele Oliver, director, Coding & Audit Division, Pinnacle Healthcare, and yours truly Pilar Mank, Director Client Relations, Western Healthcare Alliance in healthcare discussed the 5 second rule to 40 plus women.

Our keynote speaker Jonathan Fanning officially started the conference and engaging the audience with his presentation on Developing Emotional Intelligence. Back by popular demand Dr. Art Gonzalez, CEO, Denver reviewed Health Reform and the National Landscape and what needs to be done to move into the new world.

Helen MacMurray, Partner, MacMurray, Peterson and Shuster, spoke to us about class action lawsuits under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TPCA).

Lunch time was an opportunity to share in accomplishments of our chapter members and installation of officers for 2016-2017. Our president Tim Cashman and our friend Bernie Fellner gave our beloved Hal Prink a thank you for his years of service to our chapter. Thank you Hal for your devotion to our chapter. Thank you Tim for a terrific year!

Kurt Mosley, VP of Strategic Alliances, Merritt Hawkins, explored with us how reimbursement for physician and hospital services has transformed healthcare.

The remaining general session given by Sharon Caulfield, Partner, Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, and Schreck, helped us to acknowledge the ethical perspectives of the seats at the managed care table.

Finance and Revenue Cycle breakout sessions were conducted at the end of the first day. Breakout sessions are always stimulations sessions as they provide resources specific to the attendee’s area of interest. Revenue Cycle professionals were given tips and recommendations for VA claims process from Lori Lipocky, COO, Aperion Health Resources. Jonathan Wiik, Principal Consultant, Transunion took us down the troubled upstream of the Underinsured in the Revenue Cycle. Finance experts heard from the CFO panel Marnie Iorio, Centura Health Physician Group, Peg Burnette, Denver Health, and Larry Dupper Valley View Medical Center on challenges in of cost control methods, reimbursement in this changing market. Sharon Pappas, CNO, Porter Adventist Hospital and John Welton, Professor & Senior Health Systems Research, University of Colorado College of Nursing spoke to our Finance professionals on Nursing Value and Cost, new methods for allocating time and cost.

The end of our first day transitioned into DC vs Marvel MASH-UP! Bam! This event had it all, family, fun, amazing food, face painting, photo booth and DJ and costume contest. POW! A marvelous time was had by all! ZAP! Friday morning kicked off with an early riser session by Nick Molliconi, Director of Decision Support and Payor Relations, Boulder Community Health (BCH). Nick gave an overview of BCH’s journey of data and implementation of Business Intelligence application.

John Supplitt, Senior Director Section for Small or Rural Hospitals, AHA, returned to give us a Federal update of where we are in an election year.

Tom Massey, Deputy Executive Director, COO, Colorado Department of Health Care Policy financing presented the latest information on Colorado’s public insurance programs.

Our final session of the conference was an invigorating Point Counter Point on Amendment #69 ColoradoCare. Moderator, Michelle Lueck, CEO, Colorado Health Institute with opponent Dr. Jill Vecchio, Independent Institute and proponent R.R. Reid, Author, Filmmaker

& Chair of Foundation for Universal Healthcare ColoradoCare. Michelle gave a brief impartial overview of the amendment that will be on the November ballet before giving Dr. Vecchio and T.R. Reid the opportunity to discuss the pros and cons of the amendment, including the impact on providers, patients and insurers. The financial impact on taxpayers and employers with result changes in cost of healthcare coverage were also discussed on both sides of the ballot measure.
