Could buildings be the power plants of the future? By enhancing efficiency ratings and contributing both to energy generation and charging, building skins represent a paradigm shift that could fundamentally redefine how we see buildings. This notion is further reinforced in the context of megatrends such as the internet of things (IoT), smart cities and e-mobility. If buildings become part of energy generation or charging infrastructure, what role would architects play? This session will explore the vast potential of this technology and its implications for the cities and societies of tomorrow. This session is jointly organized by Intersolar and SETA Network.

BIPV is seen as one of the key development tracks of PV towards mass application. As BIPV is still seen as an innovation in the construction industry, the large scale adoption still needs to be improved. Adoption in the construction industry depends on 4 elements; product characteristics, adopter characteristics, industry characteristics and the influence on the environment. In this workshop, the different elements for a successful adoption will be covered from different perspectives to generate insight how to successfully create an enabling framework for BIPV acceleration. This session is jointly organized by Intersolar and IEA PVPS Task 15.

As the solar LCOE nears grid parity in several locations around the world – and Europe close behind – it signals the end of the feed-in tariffs era. As the PV market makes preparations for a subsidy-free world, interesting market dynamics are emerging: Large energy consumers are signing corporate PPAs and some cases even see full merchant risk exposure. As a result, however, investors and lenders will have to adapt to a new arrangement and come to accept different risks. In this session, jointly organized by Intersolar and Green Giraffe, speakers will explore these new risks, the ways in which deal structures are adapting to mitigate them, and how we should expect the European PV market to evolve in this context. This session is jointly organised by Intersolar and Green Giraffe.

Combating climate change demands aggressive deployment of green assets and projects – and significant mobilization of capital. The next step should therefore be to tap into the enormous bond market, worth US$100 trillion. Green and climate bonds have seen encouraging growth, forming a US$500 billion market in a decade; prominent investors, regulators and exchanges have flocked to the market. Yet green bonds still make up just 5% of investment grade issuance, and about 1% of the overall total. This session will address how to grow the market further to make a more meaningful contribution to climate targets. This session is jointly organized by Intersolar and Climate Bonds Initiative.

BENEATH THE PANELS BOS IN UTILITY-SCALE SYSTEMS

BENEATH THE PANELS BOS IN RESIDENTIAL SYSTEMS

Time 4:00pm–5:30pm Room 14 A

Time 2:00pm–3:30pm Room 14 A

As photovoltaic systems grow in size to utility-scale production, so too does the significance of the BOS. In this session, presentations will showcase the last innovations in inverter design and discuss the shift from central inverters to multi-string inverters. Given the role of such systems in supplying key utilities with energy, energy storage devices are also of the utmost importance – speakers will also address this aspect, particularly in light of the exponential growth in the capacity of utility-scale plants in recent years. SOLAR, THE NEW COOL?

HEAD START – PLANNING AND DESIGN OF PV SYSTEMS

Time 4:00pm–5:30pm Room 14 C

Time 2:00pm–3:30pm Room 14 C

Though previously considered by many to be too expensive for practical applications in the residential and C&I sectors, recent years have seen the price and cost of PV-powered solar cooling systems reduce, bringing the technology back into the fold as a cooling method for hot and challenging climates. New systems and designs have played a key role in improving the economic viability of solar cooling. Speakers in this session will also showcase the latest innovations in PV cooling systems and discuss the market prospects with reference to governmental energy policies.

In this session we will focus on the early stages of the lifecycle of PV systems. We will look at the latest tools and business processes that aim at optimising the identification of promising spots (from an infrastructure or resource point of view) for development, and at streamlining the pre-design, quotation and planning of systems. We will cover the different market segments from residential, where the focus is on reducing the cost of sales, to the utility scale, where optimisation of location and design are most important. This session is jointly organized by Intersolar and CSEM.
