Conference on Regulative Requirement on Building Inspection for Better Building Safety held on 18 September 2010 The Department of Building Services Engineering (BSE), being one of the coorganizers, is proud to report that the Conference on Regulative Requirement on Building Inspection for Better Building Safety was successfully held on Saturday, 18 September 2010 at Cheung On Tak Lecture Theatre, PolyU. The Department of Building Services Engineering (BSE), being one of the co‐organizers, is proud 

to  report  that  the Conference on Regulative Requirement on Building  Inspection  for Better 

Building  Safety  was  successfully  held  on  Saturday,  18  September  2010  at  Cheung  On  Tak 

Lecture Theatre, PolyU. Over 150 participants joined the event. 

 

BSE as co‐organizer of the Conference 

Four distinguished speeches were delivered by senior government officials and scholars at the 

Conference.  

Dr.  Joseph  H.K.  Lai  of  BSE,  being  one  of  the  invited  speakers,  presented  his  speech  on 

“Regulatory Controls on Building Services Works”.  

 

Slides of the presentation 

The  presentation  introduced  the  regulatory  framework  governing  building  services  which 

enabled participants to have an overall picture on this. Regulatory controls on various aspects 

of building services, such as electrical installations, lifts and escalators, fire services, waterworks 

and  ventilating  systems  were  further  elaborated  with  examples  of  ordinances/regulations. 

Finally,  Dr.  Lai  outlined  the  bills  and  ordinances  concerning  building  energy  efficiency.  The 

seminar is believed to be useful in enhancing participants’ understanding on the topic.
