Thisisauniqueevent.OurgoalistocreateaspacethatexplorestheintersecHonoftechnologyandcreaHvity.

Thisyear,ourthemeis“TheCreaHvityofThings”-aplayontheinternetofthings,andanexploraHonofhowinnovaHvepeopleareusingsmall,ubiquitous,connecteddevicestocreateart,tosHmulatelearning,toinspire,andtoshare.

Themajorconferencetracksincludepeer-reviewedpapers,presentaHons,workshops,anexhibiHon,and,newforthisyear,ahands-onareawe’recalling“TheShed”whereyoucaninteractwithexhibitorsonarangeoftechnologythatrelatestoourconferencetheme.

AnotherparHcularfocusthisyearistheScratchprogramminglanguage,andwe’rethrilledtohaveNatalieRusk,oneofitscreators,asakeynotespeaker.

ThispresentaHonsummarisesfindingsfromatwoyearNewZealandGovernment-fundedstudyintothenatureofthinkingskillsstudentsapplywhenengagedincodingacHviHes.ItusedaninnovaHverecordingtoolinstalledonclasssetsofiPadstocapturevideoandaudiodatawhile5and6yearoldstudentswerecompleHngarangeofcodingtasksthatwereintegratedintoaGeometrytopic,usingScratchJnr.DatawereanalysedagainstathinkingskillsmodelbasedonKrathwohl’s(2002)adaptaHonofBloom’sTaxonomy(cogniHvedomain)andBrennanandResnick’s(2012)frameworkforevaluaHngcomputaHonalthinking,todiscovertheextenttowhichcodingprovidedausefulmeansofbuildinggeneralandhigherorderthinkingskills.DatawillbepresentedanddiscussedhighlighHngkeyoutcomesfromthestudy,andusefulguidanceprovidedforteacherswanHngtoexplorecodingasameansofbuildingthinkingcompetenciesintheirstudents.
