    Branch of Aamal Q.S.C.

As the population of Qatar grows, so does the demand on the country’s healthcare systems.

As a result, healthcare in Qatar is transforming, with new buildings, equipment, procedures,

recruitment and training being developed, all in line with the Qatar National Vision of 2030.

With the population growth, Qatar has seen an increase in the number of road traffic accidents

and construction site injuries. To help respond to this, Hamad General Hospital, part of Hamad

Medical Corporation, introduced a specialist multi-disciplinary, inpatient and outpatient Wound

    Care Unit.

Providing such high quality wound care requires that healthcare workers work effectively

with their colleagues across other disciplines. This is often referred to as inter-professional

collaboration (IPC). There is evidence to support that employing a multidisciplinary team

strategy in healthcare can lead to improved outcomes for patients.

This three day conference aims to support the continuing education in evidence based practice

to provide comprehensive information about the various aspects of clinical and practical care for

patients. The conference will also share the most modern scientific applications in the treatment

of wounds resulting from chronic diseases such as diabetes and look at ways to improve the

wound care system by offering innovative ideas in prevention, treatment, management and

    research worldwide.

    Introduction

  • (6)

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is the main provider of secondary and tertiary healthcare

in Qatar and one of the leading hospital providers in the Middle East.

For more than three decades, HMC has been dedicated to delivering the safest, most effective

and compassionate care to all its patients.

HMC manages nine hospitals – six specialist hospitals and three community hospitals – as well

as the National Ambulance Service and home and residential care services.

In January 2016, HMC achieved the significant distinction of becoming the first healthcare

system across the globe to have all its hospitals accredited by Joint Commission International

under the Academic Medical Center accreditation program. Additionally, the National Ambulance

Service, Home Healthcare Service, Stroke Service and Palliative Care, have all received this

    prestigious accreditation since 2011.

To meet the needs of a rapidly growing population, HMC has announced ambitious plans to

expand capacity across its network through to 2030. This expansion plan includes a further

three new hospitals in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City.

HMC is leading the development of the region’s first academic health system – combining

innovative research, top-class education and excellent clinical care – and is committed to

building a legacy of healthcare expertise in Qatar. HMC collaborates with key partners who are

experts in Qatar and beyond, including Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar, the Institute for

Healthcare Improvement and Partners Healthcare, Boston.

HMC is also the first hospital system in the Middle East to achieve institutional accreditation

from the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I),

which demonstrates excellence in the way medical graduates are trained through residency,

    internship and fellowship programs.

    About Hamad Medical Corporation

  • (7)

    Ladies and gentlemen,

It’s my pleasure to present the opening speech for the first conference of its kind organized in the State of Qatar, namely the Qatar First International Wound Management Conference. It’s my pleasure as I see this huge congregation of medical personnel in Qatar, noting that there is sincere and continuous willingness to learn and exchange of expertise.

Wound care has become a discipline with its own new techniques, tools, and specialists. Moreover, the number of patients with wounds steadily increases as there are traffic accidents, diabetics, and patients undergoing surgeries.

For several years we have been discussing a plan to hold this conference aimed at underscoring the great importance to follow up with the scientific progress in this field. Today, we succeed in organizing this forum with participation of over 40 scholars from across the world in order to share the latest sciences and the latest scientific experiences.

Also, the conference will be accompanied by an exhibition displaying the latest appliances and equipment by local and international companies.

This success and this proper arrangement is thanks to the distinguished medical staff from HMC.They have been working on the conference for around a year in order to achieve its goals.

Not only does the conference draw attention from within medical circles but it also receives attention from companies importing equipment and wound care services. So many companies participate, support, and sponsor this event, setting a new example of engagement in organizing conferences.

I’m glad to say that HMC is moving forward and investing to develop the wound management department. Therefore, organizing such conferences and the accompanying events will enlighten us for further progress and prosperity.

Finally, I’m pleased to sincerely thank H.H. Dr. HananMohamed Al Kuwari, the Minister of Public Health, who closely followed up plans to hold this conference. Moreover, I’d like to thank our dear speakers and participants who are sharing their knowledge and expertize.

Our thanks go to all those who have contributed to achieving this success, hoping that the first conference will be a good start for more specialist conferences in this field.

Speech of Dr. Yousuf Al-Maslamani (chairperson of scientific committee) in the opening ceremony of the conference

  • (8)

    Ladies and gentlemen,

As I take this podium, I feel that one of my big dreams in life has been achieved. I’ve been working in the medical field for many years and had a dream of organizing a conference on the most modern medical sciences of wound care. I joined HMC almost 10 years ago, being promoted until I became the director of the outpatient clinics and wound care services at Hamad General Hospital. I have earned my first Masters degree in nursing studies from University of Hertfordshire in Britain as well as a second Masters degree from the University of Calgary recently. I persistently aspire that this discipline of medical science should progress in the State of Qatar, with more male and female youths joining nursing units, especially wound care units.

I’ve witnessed a large number of similar conferences around the world in recent years and we always believed that organizing similar conferences in the State of Qatar would bring about great benefits to healthcare professionals here. Furthermore, the conferences will have a substantial effect in persuading public and private hospitals to invest more in their wound care units. At present, appliances and equipment are being developed every day and new techniques will be revealed during this conference.

This success being accomplished today, firstly by grace from Allah, and secondly it is due to the encouragement and inspiration which we acquired from our wise leadership led by H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin-Hamad Al Thani, the Emir, may Allah protect him, and H. H Father Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin-Khalifa Al Thani, may Allah protect him. This success is also due to encouragement and inspiration from Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health.

I’d like to seize this opportunity to express my gratitude and love to both my mother and father Ali Abdallah al-Qahtani who are sitting amongst you today. They have given me indescribable support and encouragement to succeed in my career. Also, I thank everyone that has contributed to make this conference a success, including the scientific committee, the organizing committee, the communication department, the Hawkama Center, and sponsors of all levels. I express special and sincere gratitude to Dr. Yousuf al-Maslamani - my teacher and perfect exemplar - for his continuous support. I further thank Mr. Abd-al-Aziz al-Amadi, CEO of Qatar National Convention Center.
