Si chiama Thermotoga Neapolitana, è un batterio che vive e prolifera in condizioni ambientali estreme. Questo microorganismo, in grado di cresce a 80 gradi nelle solfatare marine, è stato selezionato per le sue capacità “estremofile”, nel nuovo studio biotecnologico condotto dell’Istituto di chimica biomolecolare del Consiglio nazionale delle ricerche (Icb-Cnr) di Pozzuoli. “Le cellule della Thermotoga si comportano da micro reattori in grado di produrre idrogeno da fermentazione di substrati organici, inclusi materiale di scarto dell’industria agro-alimentare, permettendone una trasformazione in energia pulita”.
