• The first conditional is used for talking about possibilities in the present or in the future. This page will explain how the first conditional is formed, and when to use it.

• If clause (present simple): • If you study hard, • Main clause (future): • you will pass the test.

(We use a comma after the “If” clause):

• If you study hard, you will pass the test

• Main clause:• You will pass the test • If clause:• if you study hard.

• If the “If” clause is in the second place we don´t use the comma

• You will pass the exam if you study hard

• Example:

• If it's sunny, we'll go to • the park.

• Explanation:• Maybe it will be sunny -- that's

possible.

• EXAMPLE:• Paula will be sad if

Juan leaves.

• EXPLANATION:• Maybe Juan will leave

-- that's possible.

• Example:• If you cook the

supper, I'll wash the dishes.

• EXPLANATION:• Maybe you will cook

the supper -- that's possible.

• If you don´t sleep well,

• you will get asleep in the classroom.
