Conditional board gameLanguage point
First and second conditionals.
Aim
To practise first and second conditionalstructures.
Activity
Students ask and answer questions usingthe first and second conditionals in order tomove along the board and reach the end.
Organization
Group work.
Preparation
Make a copy of the board game foreach group of three or four students.
Each player needs a counter and eachgroup needs a dice.
What do I do?
1 Divide students into groups of 3 or 4.
2 Give each player a counter and eachgroup a dice.
3 Students place their counters onSTART and throw the dice to decidewho starts.
4 Student A throws the dice and movesforward that number of squares.
5 Student B asks Student A the questionon that square. If Student A answers
with the correct conditional form, andthe rest of the group agree that theanswer is correct, Student A's counterremains where it is. If the answer isincorrect, the counter returns to itsoriginal square.
To develop fluency, encourage the group todevelop a short conversation after eachanswer with follow up questions.
6 Students take it in turns, repeatingstep 5 and moving around the boarduntil one student reaches FINISH.This student is the winner!
