Meaning of condition assessment

May be defined as the situation whereby the entire area of the wall , surface or object is assessed either by visual survey, observation and measurement in order to understand the effects and impact of the damage to the monuments, structural or object.

Condition assessment of Upendo House South Facade

Visual assessment : We did visual assessment by using head lenses in order to understand layers of the painting if it is first layer or later addition.

Observation : Also, we observe the area so as to see possible threats of the painting.

Also we used digital microscope in order to see what is underneath on the painting layer

We have identified the following damage after condition assessment;

• Loss of painting• Hairline cracks on the painting• Water stain on the painting• Color detachment• Mechanical damage
